• Introduction of cheaper unaccompanied and guaranteed tickets for teenagers.

• Re-evaluation of the LFC members’ biannual ticket sales and clear and open consultation with supporters, including the Liverpool Supporters’ Union.

Survey Highlights

Question 1: Please confirm your status

Survey Results

Question 1 results show the majority of those surveyed were either LFC Members (42%) orSeason Ticket Holders (39%). The smallest category of those surveyed were corporate ticketholders with a 0.5% response.

Answer Choices Responses

Season Ticket Holder 38.91%

LFC Member 41.68%

General Sale Ticket Holder 13.48%

Corporate Ticket Holder 0.47%

Non match goer 5.46%

Question 2: Where do you predominantly sit at Anfield?

The majority of those surveyed predominantly sit in the Kop at Anfield, accounting for 52% ofthose polled. Those who sit in every stand are accounted for in the survey responses with thesmallest return, as expected, coming from the smallest seating area in the Paddock (3%).

Answer Choices Responses

Main Stand 13.54%

Paddock 3.47%

Kop 51.75%

Upper Centenary 7.46%

Lower Centenary 12.91%

Upper Anfield Road 4.43%

Lower Anfield Road 6.44%

Question 3: In general, what do you consider to be a reasonable price for a season ticket?

The most popular response for what is considered to be a reasonable price for a season ticketwas £500-£600 with 43% of the vote. A further 25% suggest a season ticket should be pricedat less than £500. Adult Season Ticket prices for the 2013/14 season at Anfield ranged from £710to £850, however only 11% of supporters thought a season ticket price of over £700 was reasonable.

Further analysis of the results show that there is a differentiation between Season TicketHolders and Non Season Ticket Holders. 73% of Season Ticket Holders saying that a reasonableseason ticket price should be less than £600 and only 8% believe a season ticket price of over£700 (current price range) is reasonable. This is compared to 62% of LFC members sayingthat a reasonable price is less than £600 and 15% above £700. Presumably the differencebetween Season Ticket Holders and LFC Members will be those who currently have a SeasonTicket (and struggling to afford it) and those who want a Season Ticket.

This highlights the need for more reasonably priced Season Tickets. It is also important that currentSeason Ticket Holders are not priced out simply because there is greater demand for tickets.

Answer Choices Responses

Less than £500 25.13%

£500 to £600 43.21%

£600 to £700 20.35%

£700 to £800 8.58%

£800 to £900 1.98%

Comments from Supporters:“Season tickets should be no more than £550 and members’ sales should be easier. We needa bigger stadium for a bigger allocation for new season tickets and... we also need to stop peoplegetting tickets and selling them for ridiculous amounts and making a profit out of it and alsohow do these companies get tickets for our games and charge £150-£200 each it's a joke !”

“Ticket prices are an absolute joke and I won't go to the match again until something is done, regardless of my own finances. Don't expect it to happen, though.”

“My view is that ticket prices are not the major source of revenue to clubs. It is the TV money.Arguably the recent rise in TV revenues could have resulted in much fairer prices for fans. Ihave a friend who supports Burnley. The last time they were promoted to the top division, allseason ticket holders got in for free; paid for by the TV monies. If Burnley can do this, why notus, a much richer club?”

“I am fully behind any campaign for cheaper tickets for fans as an avid LFC for over 40 yearsand followed team home and away and now am lucky if I go 3 to 4 times a year a cost is toohigh for me.”

“Pay the price because I love to go but it stretches my budget and I have a reasonably paidjob as a teacher”

“Prices are too much football should be for everyone not just for the rich.”

“Season ticket holder for 27 years until 12/13. Priced out of going due to young family andcost of living, high ticket pricing was too much to justify season ticket. 2 boys 15 & 8 wouldlove to go to Anfield but can rarely afford the luxury.”

Question 4: Which of the following reflects your view on tiered pricing at Anfield?

61% of supporters think it is fair that the better seats in a stand are more expensive, which is thecurrent system at Anfield. The remaining 39% think all seats in a stand should be the same price.

Answer Choices Responses

I think it fair that the better seats in a stand are more expensive 61.07%

I think all seats in a stand should be the same price 38.93%

8

Comments from Supporters:“Question 4 would be better suited to the person who sits in the top corner of the main stand,I feel everyone should pay the same but then again I've got a boss seat.”

“Q4 a tad vague. Some seats are poor so should have lower prices. Prices shouldn't range toomuch though.”

“In regards to the tiered pricing I agreed because I don't think its fair that people who end upwith restricted view seats which there is a lot of in the Main Stand should have to pay the sameas those who are sitting in the better seats also the Kop and Anfield Rd should be at thereduced rates.”

“Restricted view tickets should be a lot cheaper.”

“Although tiered pricing makes sense, the quality of view and facilities should be taken intoaccount. As a Main Stand season ticket holder, my view is partially blocked by a supportingpillar, and the scrum to get to and from the toilets at half time is getting beyond a joke!”

9

Question 5: Do you support the idea that young (14-18) local supporters should receive somepriority guaranteed cheaper tickets allowing them to attend a match unaccompanied.

The majority of supporters back guaranteed cheaper tickets for 14-18 year olds to go the matchunaccompanied with 86% of supporters voting in favour. This question generated a lot ofcomments, a selection of which are shown below. Respondents see the need for futuresupporters to have a chance of going to the match to not only create a legacy of match goingsupport, but also to improve the atmosphere at Anfield.

This is an area that the Club need to explore with it becoming increasingly difficult for youngsupporters to pay adult prices to attend a match at Anfield.

Answer Choices Responses

Yes 86.06%

No 13.94%

Comments from Supporters:“I think the most prevalent question in this survey is number five. It is imperative that youngsupporters have the opportunity to attend games. A guaranteed number of reasonably pricedtickets should be on sale from the ticket window only to ensure local young supporters canattend even just a few games a season”

“With regards young supporters - I think it should be 13-17 brackets. Would like to see a block(202 or 208) used like a 'boys pen'. Tickets for that area would be restricted to card carrying youngsupporters - ticket price £20 for all league games. The drop in revenue could be subsidisedthrough sponsorship”

“speaking as someone who travels to games from Ireland, I do agree that without local supportthe game/atmosphere is been ruined.”

“My son who is 16 who sits in the centenary Stand and has had his ST for over 5 years pays morethan me!”

“Genuine football fans today are priced out the game. Should encourage all under 18s withcheaper tickets to try and improve atmosphere”

“Local people will soon be priced out of attending games and the atmosphere will suffer.”

Question 6: Please rate your experience of attending and dealing in person with the Ticket Office.

The experience of attending and dealing with the Ticket Office is generally positive with 81%of supporters rating their experience as satisfactory or better. There is room for improvementas 19% of supporters rate their experience of the ticket office as poor or very poor. The clubshould consult openly with supporters on how to improve the customer service provided tosupporters.

The survey results indicate potentially different levels of service between Season Ticket Holdersand Members, with 22% of Season Ticket Holders rating their experience with the Ticket Officeas poor or very poor compared to 15% of LFC Members.

Comments from Supporters:“Ticket office personnel do not seem to have the relevant needed information. Members saleis spoilt due to glitches in the online system.”

“Everytime I've tried to contact the ticket office it's never open and trying to book tickets onlineis a nightmare if you’re not a member of a supporters club which I’m not as my club (eastAnglian) closed down before the start of this season.”

“The online ticket module doesn't work. I've been a few minutes away from the front of thequeue and then booted to the back on two separate match sales. So has a mate, so havenumerous people on the footie bus. It's happened at home and at work so it's not theconnection. And the ticket office has to be one of the biggest cons going. You get a messagetelling you all the operators are busy and that you're being charged to hear that. Then it hangsup. So you re-dial, and get charged again and so on. You end up paying for each call and youdon't end up with a single ticket. That's terrible. That is emotional blackmail and we're LFC,we're better than that.”

“Hate getting in touch with Ticket office, they never seem to want to help. Friends husbandhas season ticket at Goodison, they gave refund while he has chemo also said they would savehis season ticket for next season, We both said that wouldn’t happen at Anfield.”

“my mrs forgot her membership card one game, ticket office charged £10 to PRINT a newone! £10, it wasn't even gold plated, we wouldn't mind paying the actual cost of printing theticket but £10. Why?”

Question 7: Please rate your experience of using the online ticketing module on the LFCwebsite to purchase tickets

The results from this question show that an area that causes many grievances with supportersis the online ticketing module. 72% of supporters rate the online ticketing module as satisfactoryor better with the remaining 28% rating it as poor or very poor. The online ticketing moduleneeds to be improved to ensure more supporters are happy. LFC Members have a worseexperience of the online ticketing module with 31% of Members rating it as poor or very poorcompared to 23% of Season Ticket Holders.

Comments from Supporters:“The online ticket purchase system is unsatisfactory. The site crashes, basket empties randomly, not enough time to find two tickets for two people to sit together for more than two gamesetc... Too many games are put on sale at the same time which causes difficulty with the siteand some people's pockets.”

“When purchasing online for away tickets seat selection should be allowed ie. allow peoplewho purchase in first sale better placed seats (front rows)”

“New online mobile ticketing site is a joke, myself and other people have had problems andmissed out a number of times for purchasing away tickets this season as it comes up invalidmembership it's hit and miss when it lets you log in”

13

Question 8: If you are a member, please rate your experience of the two annual members’ticket sales periods.

Of the questions asking supporters to rate their experiences, the experience of the two annualmembers’ ticket sales periods comes out worst with 75% of supporters rating them assatisfactory or worse.

The Club need to re-evaluate the members’ ticket sales periods and have open and clearconsultation with supporters on this issue.

Comments from Supporters:“The way in which LFC sell members tickets is absolutely farcical. It is possibly the worstsystem I have ever encountered while buying tickets for absolutely any event. The fact thetickets are sold in batches means if you have difficulty on the day in question you end up withnone for half a season. The site is then swamped due to the sheer number trying to buy ticketswhich the inept system cannot cope with. This year numerous people had their baskets emptiedafter putting in payment details and ended up with no tickets from the entire sale. Havingwritten to the club on two occasions about this I still have not received a response. Their entireprocess is a joke. It would not be difficult to improve it markedly yet it is something theystruggle to do every year.”

“Membership scheme feels like a con. I dutifully pay my monies in order to not be able to gettickets when the time comes.”

“The current twice yearly sale for members is a good idea, but the I.T. setup is poor, as it oftencrashes. Also, there should be the option to spread the cost over the year. Also, there is oftenanother general sale after the members tickets are apparently sold out, this us unfair as wesometimes take restricted view tickets as a last option.”

“had a bad experience trying to get tickets during the 2nd membership process. waiting in aqueue for an hour and 34 mins until I was 1 min in the queue, the ticket availability refreshedand kicked me to the back of the queue. the only reason I join the membership is to get ticketsfor games. totally unsatisfactory way of selling tickets releasing so many games at the sametime! Won't be renewing next year”

Question 9: If you are not a Season Ticket Holder, when would you prefer to buy your tickets?

Following the poor rating of the member’s ticket sales periods the majority of supporters votedfor individual ticket sales for each match with 78% voting in favour of this over the currentsystem of two members’ ticket sales periods.

The Club need to re-evaluate the members’ ticket sales periods and have open and clearconsultation with supporters on this issue.

Comments from Supporters:“I think the two annual members sales are a terrible idea. I'm a student and can't afford to payfor 4 or 5 full price tickets at a time as that's £200+.”

“The membership sales are ridiculous. Unless I have the money at the time, I can’t pay for allthe games I wish to attend.”

“Online twice yearly sales have been mixed for me this year. The first one was a disaster as Icould not get on but the second was fine. I prefer this big hit twice a year as I often struggledto free up time to sit waiting for the site to respond when I had to buy every couple of weeks.”“The two annual member’s ticket sales are awful! I spent over 1 hour second sale waiting toget onto the site, by time I did there was no tickets left, too many people trying to purchase allat once, and after paying £35 to be a member you should at least be guaranteed a ticket atsome point”

Answer Choices Responses

During two annual members ticket sales (current system) 22.37%

During individual ticket sales a fixed period of time e.g. 4 weeks, before each match

77.63%

Question 10: Please rate your view of the quality of your seat at Anfield

There is generally a positive result to how supporters rate the quality of their seat with 70%saying it was good or excellent. Comments highlight restricted views and leg room as a problemfor some. 11% of those who sit predominantly in the Main Stand rated their view as poor orvery poor compared to only 4% who sit in the Kop. The Lower Centenary is rated as the secondworst with 10% after the Main Stand (taking account of the percentage of supporters who ratedit poor or very poor). Despite being voted the worst two stands for the quality of supporters’seats in Anfield, the Main Stand and Lower Centenary are the two most expensive stands(alongside the Upper Centenary and Paddock).

Answer Choices Responses

Excellent 24.83%

Good 49.78%

Satisfactory 21.18%

Poor 3.33%

Very Poor 0.88%

Comments from Supporters:“There is no leg room on the seats which is absolutely ridiculous”

“Paid 50 sterling to sit on wooden seats in main stand that in itself is a joke.”

“The leg room and seating width in Anfield is atrocious. It is always a squeeze anywhere in thestadium and at 6"5' there are areas in the stadium I physically cannot sit in. I hope the club willtake the needs of a growing population in mind with the expansion program.”

“Restricted view in main stand due to pillars affects a large amount seats. Dated design of thisstand should be reflected in prices.”

“Also, some of the seating at Anfield is atrocious with Restricted Views or seats in which yourseat is not directly facing the pitch.”

“I pay top whack for sitting in the Paddock, yet I can't see most of the time as I sit by the dugout and I get soaked!!”

16

Question 11: Leaving aside the quality of football at Anfield, how would you rate the facilitiesat Anfield?

The facilities rated as satisfactory polled highest with 40% of supporters voting this way. But21% rated the facilities as poor or very poor. This is not good enough for a Premier Leaguefootball club and something any stadium expansion needs to address. As with the ratings forquality of the seat, the facilities are rated worst in the most expensive stands. 57% of those inthe Paddock rate facilities as poor or very poor and 32% in the Main Stand compared with 15%in the Kop.

17

Answer Choices Responses

Excellent 5.44%

Good 33.83%

Satisfactory 39.77%

Poor 17.51%

Very Poor 3.46%

Comments from Supporters:“My seat is in the paddock and we pay more than the people a couple of yards away. Thefacilities are very poor, yet we pay the top price.”

“…the main stand is a joke, toilets are rammed at half time and the leg room is so tight, youcan’t hear the announcements, the food is expensive and a post restricts views even in the socalled premium seats. £850 is too expensive for a badly facilitated stand.”

“Amount of female toilets in the lower Centenary stand is ridiculous, you spend the whole ofhalf time queuing up to use the facilities and are lucky to return to your seat in time for thesecond half :(“

“Main Stand prices, for the facilities, are excessive.”

“The club is taking the p**s out of its loyal and long term match goers. They have us over abarrel. If I give it up some other mug will take it off me and I’ll never get it back. £850 (approx)to sit in the paddock! Facilities are s**t, it's probably the worst concourse in the league.”

“On a broader issue of facilities at Anfield I despair. Why does it take 15 minutes to get servedat half time? Why are there only 2 staff serving a counter 12' long and 3-4 ppl deep? Why,when I pay more than £800 for my ST do I have to queue to use the toilets AND wash myhands in cold water? Why are there then no paper towels to dry my hands? We are treatedvery poorly by this club and it annoys me when they go on about the 12th man when in realitythey actually care very little for the 12th man.”

18

Question 12: Do you consider the cost of your ticket value for money?

73% of supporters surveyed do not consider their ticket to be value for money. This is aworryingly high number with other questions in this survey showing that the facilities, seatquality and cost contribute to supporters not seeing their tickets as value for money. This ismore evident for Season Ticket Holders, with 81% of them not considering their ticket valuefor money. The stand that offers the least value for money is the Lower Centenary with 83% ofsupporters not being satisfied. Conversely, the stand with the biggest percentage of supporterssaying their ticket is value for money is the Upper Anfield Road with 40%.

Comments from Supporters:“As regards the ticket been value for money I have to say yes basically to justify it for me buyingthem, but I think that they are way overpriced and especially for supporters who try to attendall the games it is a lot of money to be paying.”

Question 13: Do you think ticket prices should rise for the 2014/15 season?

This is the question with the highest polling for an answer with 97% of supporters saying thereshould be no price rise for the 2014/15 season.

Comments from Supporters:“My first season ticket (round about 1980) was, I think £80 or so. I can now no longer afford aseason ticket by myself, so me, my sister and her husband share 2 between us. If prices wereto rise much more I am not sure I can justify paying.”

“Tickets prices have gone through the roof in recent years and another rise would be a slap inthe face for supporters. They're far too expensive as it is and people are suffering in thiseconomic climate.”

“In this country, everything is overly priced and is on the rise! Good working class people arepriced out every season with prices rising, but no pay rises in people's jobs obviously can'taccommodate the price rises of everything else in this country including football!”

Question 14: Do you think an expanded stadium capacity should see cheaper ticket prices?

90% of supporters polled want cheaper ticket prices in an expanded stadium capacity. LiverpoolFC should ensure they include cheaper ticket prices in the plans for a redeveloped ground.

Comments from Supporters:“In theory a bigger stadium would suggest cheaper ticket prices however I do not feel thiswould ever actually happen such is the corporate stance of the Club. In order for the Club tocompete I do understand the need to generate revenue however I cannot help but feel a largerstadium would provide more match day revenue whilst still affording choice in terms of revenuegenerated from food, drink and merchandise.”

“Although I don't think a larger stadium should mean cheaper tickets, this would reduce thehoped for increase in revenue to invest into the team, there should be scope to have a largerselection of pricing available so fans of all ages and backgrounds are able to attend games.Liverpool as a city and a club is built on inclusion no matter what your background. Koppitesshould work together, like the players and club should, for the better good of the football cluband team. We all want the best for the club so lets work together!”

“I love this question: "Do you think an expanded stadium capacity should see cheaper ticketprices?" There may well be some cheaper seats, but the renovations done by FSG at FenwayPark mostly added premium/high priced seats. Think more club levels, private boxes, etc. Anexpansion of Anfield will follow this model to a large degree.”

“I want a stadium sponsor and the eventual expanded stadium to subsidise prices of tickets.”“The stadium expansion should surely benefit everybody and with an increase in capacityconsideration should be given to our younger support with an increase in juvenile tickets andmaybe some cheaper tickets for the people being priced out.”

Question 15: Do you think the Club should make it easier to fund ticket purchases throughinstalment payments or interest free deals?

The payment options available to supporters contribute to the affordability of a ticket, particularlyseason tickets. This is reflected with 73% of supporters polled wanting the club to introduceinstalment payments or interest free deals. A further 20% of supporters chose the ‘not bothered’option. The need for payment options is more important to Season Ticket Holders with 83%voting for instalment payments or interest free deals.

Comments from Supporters:“We understand as supporters that in order for the team and club to compete and grow pricesmust be competitive. But I personally feel that a compromise should be made, the revenuestreams seem to be growing foreign investment is always available and ever increasing seasonticket prices are a real issue. An instalment plan would make my life a lot easier!”

“Am against interest free deals on tickets purchases, as it enables club to justify high prices.”

Question 16: What is your view of the Spirit of Shankly’s campaign and the Football SupporterFederation’s Twenty’s Plenty campaign for reasonably priced away tickets?

It is pleasing to see that 95% of supporters polled fully support our campaign and that of theFootball Supporters’ Federation for reasonably priced away tickets. The Liverpool Supporters’Union campaign is not limited to cheaper away tickets, but home tickets as well. It is evidentfrom the comments that we have strong support on this issue, but that we must also increasethe strength of our campaign for more reasonably priced home tickets.

23

Answer Choices Responses

Fully support 94.73%

Oppose it, let Clubs charge what they want 1.47%

Not bothered 3.79%

Comments from Supporters:“Twenty's plenty should also be for home tickets, not just away games.”

“A campaign for cheaper ticketing should include prices for home matches not just away games.”

“In reference to the Spirit of Shankly's Twenty's Plenty Campaign, I think it should be movedto home games as well as away tickets. This to prevent the reduction in the cost of away ticketsbeing meet by an increase in the home fans ticket price.”

“Whilst I do support the principle of a cap on away ticket prices, I believe £20 is anunrealistically low figure and that £30 may be more realistic.”

“The cash from TV and sponsorship should be used to lower ticket prices. Man City playerssubsidise away tickets, would LFC players?”

“Personally the £20 for away games is wrong in that fans of opposing clubs would be gettingmuch cheaper tickets at Anfield than home supporters. Think £30 is better.”

“My opposition to the 20's plenty is that away tickets would become harder to obtain as everyeligible fan would buy any ticket and either sell on for a profit, sell on at cost, or even not useit and waste it just so that they get the credit from it.”

“Oppose the twenty twenty ticket campaign due to the current way away tickets are sold bylast years attendance would never get a look in”

“I support the Twenty is plenty campaign but don't see why it should be exclusively for awaytickets. If the issue of expensive home tickets was addressed then away tickets would naturallybecome cheaper.”

24

Question 17: What is your view on match categorisation for the pricing of Premier Leaguematches? i.e. Different prices according to who the opponent is.

Of the supporters who responded, 65% have the view that all league matches should be pricedthe same regardless of the opposition.

Comments from Supporters:“Re categorisation, if it’s a poor game would the club ever consider a refund? Of course not,but because you pay more for certain games how can they justify it if it’s a poor game. That’slike them saying you pay more for Cat A game because it’s GOING TO BE a bigger, bettergame, but that’s not always the case.”

“I would not be against a premium priced seat that is then used to offset the cost of lowerpriced seats. Say a £75 premium that then allows a £15 budget seat elsewhere. There shouldnot be more premium seats than budget seats, they should be equal or in ratio in favour ofbudget seat”

“I do see categorisation as inevitable, but the price difference should be reasonable. Most importantthing is to get the 16-25 year’s olds in at reasonable prices. We can’t lose that generation.”

“Supporters are not richer the week a top 6 team comes to town then when a bottom 6 clubcomes to town. We are there to watch Liverpool; therefore prices should be the same throughoutthe league season.”

Answer Choices Responses

Match Categorisation should be in place pricing each match according to the opposition 34.56%

All league matches should be priced the same regardless of opposition 65.44%
