    Changes in Functionality

This section lists chan ges in functionality since the last release of this prod uct.

    Release 5.5

    Data function incompatibility change

Di fferent data types are used when s ending Spotfire D ateTime / D ate / Time /TimeSpan columns to data functions running the TIBCO Enterprise Runtimefor R or R engines.

When Spotfire colum ns are sent to a data function u sing the TIBCO Enterp riseRuntime for R or R engines, the Spotfire data is converted to appropriate R datatypes. With this release, we have changed the types u sed wh en sending SpotfireDateTime/ Date/ Time/ TimeSpan column s to these engines, so that TIBCOEnterp rise Runtime for R or R receive the same d ata, as follows:

    Spotfire Column

    Type

    Description

    Spotfire DateTimeColumns

Received as a POSIXct object w ith t ime zo ne UTC.

Spotfire Date Colum ns Received as a POSIXct object with time zone UTC.

Spotfire Time Colum ns Received as a POSIXct object with time zone UTCgiving times on the date 1/ 1/ 1970. This is the R"epoch" d ay.

    Spotfire TimeSpanColumns

Received as d ifftime ob jects with un its "secs".

The POSIXct objects are created with time zon e UTC because Spotfire dates andtimes have no associated time zone. Time zones can be manipu lated in the d atafunction if needed , althou gh it is often un necessary for time series analyses.

When PO SIXct values are exported back to Spotfire, they are converte d toDateTime colum ns: Thus, there is no w ay for a d ata function to outp ut SpotfireDate or Time columns.

Drag and drop of data file

Drag an d d rop a data file (.txt, .xls, .sbdf etc.) on the app lication w ind ow w illadd a new table to an existing analysis, instead of creating a new analysis wh ichwas the behavior in earlier versions.
