Leona JosephineLoomis Gaydusek of St.George, KS, and formerlyof Mahaska, KS, passedaway on March 19, 2019at the WestmorelandCommunity Care Home inWestmoreland, KS. Leona was born No-vember 14, 1927, in Bea-trice, NE, to Archie andJosephine KaltenbachLoomis. Leona grew upon the family farm nearGilead, NE, where Leonahelped her parents farm.She attended school atDistrict #9. Then in 1942attended high school inGilead for 2 years, thenfinished high school inFairbury, NE where sheworked for her room andboard to live in Fairbury togo to school. In 1946 shegraduated with 87 in herclass. Leona’s dadneeded her to help that fallwith harvest and offered topay for the next semesterof college if she stayedhome that fall and she did.January 1947 Leonastarted college at PeruState Teachers College.The fall of 1947 Leonastarted teaching at District45 for 3 years. Summer1950 she attended schoolat Peru. That fall shetaught at Gilead grades5-8. 1951 Leona taught atDistrict 69 by Deshler, NEwhere she taught for 3years when her mom
broke her leg and de-cided to teach closer tothe family farm at District23. 1957-58 Leonataught south of Beatriceand 1958-60 she taughtnorthwest of Hebron. February 7, 1961 shemarried Frank Gaydusekat St. Joseph’s CatholicChurch of Gilead, NE.They farmed northeastof Washington until 1968when they moved east ofMahaska on a farm. Leona was involvedwith the American Le-gion Auxiliary, HopewellClub; was a religionteacher many years anda member of the AltarSociety at St. Peter andPaul Catholic Churchnorth of Morrowville andthe altar society at St.Michael’s CatholicChurch in Fairbury, NE. She loved spendingtime with family and en-joyed attending hergrandchildren’s activi-ties. Leona is survived byher husband Frank andtheir two children ClaraEbert (Doug) of St.George and Glenn Gay-dusek (Lori) of Mahaskaand 4 grandchildren Tif-fany Richard (AJ) of Mil-tonvale, Chelsea Stroda(Jacob) of Randolph,Cassandra Ebert of St.George and NatashaGaydusek of Mahaska. Leona was precededin death by her parents,Archie and Josephine(Kaltenbach) Loomis. Services were heldTuesday, March 26,2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St.Michael’s CatholicChurch in Fairbury. Burial was at St. Johnthe Baptist Cemetery inHanover, KS. Gerdes-Meyer Fu-neral Home is in chargeof arrangements.

The Unique Ingenuersmet on March 11 for theirannual spring salad sup-per. Hostesses were theofficers. Following a de-lightful and delicious saladpotluck, the meeting wascalled to order by presi-dent, Doris Sand. Tenmember and one guest,Ethan Heuer, answered rollcall by telling what their fa-vorite winter outdoor pas-time is. Minutes of ourFebruary meeting wereread by secretary, MarilynMorgan, and a treasurer’sreport was given by trea-surer, Sharon Stohs. Those who attended theCirque Zuma Zuma pro-gram in Marysville reportedon their evening. Theamazing performance in-cluded dance, acrobatics,mime and magic. Dorisshowed an old Hanovernewspaper from 1969which showed pictures ofHanover guys sportingbeards for the centennial.Members discussedHanover’s upcoming 150thcelebration which will beheld this year. Jeanne Stohs receiveda birthday gift from herMystery Pal. Jeanne alsoreceived the club kitty for“wearing of the green.” Ourhostess on April 8th will beDeAnna Jueneman.

LWML Meets Fifty-seven membersand guests of the LinnZone Lutheran Women inMission (LWML) met for aSpring Event March 23,2019 at Bethlehem Lu-theran Church, Greenleaf.Following a hymn sing,Pastor Matthew Duranceled opening devotions.The guest speaker wasPastor Joel Hiestermanwho showed slides on theorphanages he visited inRussia. The mission tripwas supported by the Or-phan Grain Train. Theybrought healthcare, quilts,dollars, children’s Bibles,and the love of Christ tothe children. District PresidentBrenda Pieter demon-strated ways to bettercommunicate. Vice-pres-ident Debra Ohlde re-sided at the businessmeeting. Officers electedwere President: ArlyceKlipp; Secretary: LindaBeikman; Special FocusChairman: Peggy Rikli. ALove Offering of $181.00was collected. The after-noon concluded with fel-lowships and sweets.
