Loads of materials coming to the transfer station must be able to be unloaded in their proper area, and not commingled, or full price will be charged. Household Hazardous Waste and used oil will still be accepted at the Environmental Sciences Department, during business hours, free of charge as usual. On Monday, April 8th, 2019, the transfer station will return to normal charges and normal hours. Please bring all recyclables to The Environmental Sciences Dept. at 812 B Street - Washington KS. Leona Josephine Loomis Gaydusek of St. George, KS, and formerly of Mahaska, KS, passed away on March 19, 2019 at the Westmoreland Community Care Home in Westmoreland, KS. Leona was born No- vember 14, 1927, in Bea- trice, NE, to Archie and Josephine Kaltenbach Loomis. Leona grew up on the family farm near Gilead, NE, where Leona helped her parents farm. She attended school at District #9. Then in 1942 attended high school in Gilead for 2 years, then finished high school in Fairbury, NE where she worked for her room and board to live in Fairbury to go to school. In 1946 she graduated with 87 in her class. Leona’s dad needed her to help that fall with harvest and offered to pay for the next semester of college if she stayed home that fall and she did. January 1947 Leona started college at Peru State Teachers College. The fall of 1947 Leona started teaching at District 45 for 3 years. Summer 1950 she attended school at Peru. That fall she taught at Gilead grades 5-8. 1951 Leona taught at District 69 by Deshler, NE where she taught for 3 years when her mom broke her leg and de- cided to teach closer to the family farm at District 23. 1957-58 Leona taught south of Beatrice and 1958-60 she taught northwest of Hebron. February 7, 1961 she married Frank Gaydusek at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Gilead, NE. They farmed northeast of Washington until 1968 when they moved east of Mahaska on a farm. Leona was involved with the American Le- gion Auxiliary, Hopewell Club; was a religion teacher many years and a member of the Altar Society at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church north of Morrowville and the altar society at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairbury, NE. She loved spending time with family and en- joyed attending her grandchildren’s activi- ties. Leona is survived by her husband Frank and their two children Clara Ebert (Doug) of St. George and Glenn Gay- dusek (Lori) of Mahaska and 4 grandchildren Tif- fany Richard (AJ) of Mil- tonvale, Chelsea Stroda (Jacob) of Randolph, Cassandra Ebert of St. George and Natasha Gaydusek of Mahaska. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Josephine (Kaltenbach) Loomis. Services were held Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairbury. Burial was at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Hanover, KS. Gerdes-Meyer Fu- neral Home is in charge of arrangements. Leona J. Gaydusek Unique Ingenuers Minutes The Unique Ingenuers met on March 11 for their annual spring salad sup- per. Hostesses were the officers. Following a de- lightful and delicious salad potluck, the meeting was called to order by presi- dent, Doris Sand. Ten member and one guest, Ethan Heuer, answered roll call by telling what their fa- vorite winter outdoor pas- time is. Minutes of our February meeting were read by secretary, Marilyn Morgan, and a treasurer’s report was given by trea- surer, Sharon Stohs. Those who attended the Cirque Zuma Zuma pro- gram in Marysville reported on their evening. The amazing performance in- cluded dance, acrobatics, mime and magic. Doris showed an old Hanover newspaper from 1969 which showed pictures of Hanover guys sporting beards for the centennial. Members discussed Hanover’s upcoming 150th celebration which will be held this year. Jeanne Stohs received a birthday gift from her Mystery Pal. Jeanne also received the club kitty for “wearing of the green.” Our hostess on April 8th will be DeAnna Jueneman. Deaths & Obituaries: Residents play “The Luck of the Irish” bingo. LWML Meets Fifty-seven members and guests of the Linn Zone Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) met for a Spring Event March 23, 2019 at Bethlehem Lu- theran Church, Greenleaf. Following a hymn sing, Pastor Matthew Durance led opening devotions. The guest speaker was Pastor Joel Hiesterman who showed slides on the orphanages he visited in Russia. The mission trip was supported by the Or- phan Grain Train. They brought healthcare, quilts, dollars, children’s Bibles, and the love of Christ to the children. District President Brenda Pieter demon- strated ways to better communicate. Vice-pres- ident Debra Ohlde re- sided at the business meeting. Officers elected were President: Arlyce Klipp; Secretary: Linda Beikman; Special Focus Chairman: Peggy Rikli. A Love Offering of $181.00 was collected. The after- noon concluded with fel- lowships and sweets.
