Keywords and Pronunciation• conjugation : a list of all the singular and plural forms of a

verb in all six tenses

• future perfect progressive form : shows a future ongoing action that will have taken place by a stated future time

• future perfect tense : expresses action that will take place before another future action or time

• future progressive form : shows an ongoing action that will take place in the future

• future tense : expresses action that will take place in the future

• helping verb : an auxiliary verb that helps to make up a verb phrase

• irregular verb : a verb that does not form its past and past participle by adding -ed or -d to the present form

• present participle : a verb form ending in -ing; may be used as an adjective

• present perfect progressive form : shows an ongoing action that is continuing in the present

• present perfect tense : expresses action that was completed at some indefinite time in the past or that has started in the past and is still going on

What is verb tense?• The tense of a verb expresses time. The three simple

tenses are past, present, and future. In addition to these three tenses, there are perfect tenses.

• present perfect: I have waited.

• past perfect: I had waited.

• future perfect: I shall have waited.

What is verb tense?• Both the simple and perfect tenses have a progressive

form. The progressive forms refer to a continuing or ongoing action.

• present progressive: I am waiting.

• past progressive: I was waiting.

• future progressive: I will be waiting.

• present perfect progressive: I have been waiting.

• past perfect progressive: I had been waiting.

• future perfect progressive: I will have been waiting.
