This has been an amazingly tough decision but one I know is right for the school. As my letter explained, rather than taking bits and pieces of sick leave, or even just a term at a time, my overriding concern was the impact this would have on our beautiful school. This is the reason I have decided to relinquish my role as Principal at Ferny Creek from the end of this term. This will allow the school to begin the process of selecting a new Principal to lead the school forward. I hope to reflect a lot more, over the coming weeks, about my time at Ferny Creek. 15 years is a long innings and I love this school! Taking extended sick leave will see me through to the middle of next year. Until then, I am 'placed' at Region. I have been speaking with Region and our plan is to appoint an Acting Principal for term 3 while the school goes through the selection process for a substantive Principal appointment. This will involve a senior Region employee, a teacher member of staff, and a Principal from another school. Thank you again so much to my teachers, ES staff, School Council, parent community, and the wonderful students we have for your support and your enthusiasm over the years. PRINCIPALS BLOG

Dear Parents and Friends,

As you now most likely know, I am finishing my time at Ferny Creek at the end of this term. My health has remained an issue over recent times.

Our final session will be in term 4 on Friday 7th December from 9am to 11am. New 2019 students will meet our grade 4s (future buddies) and work with them and finish by having a playlunch with the future buddies.

Our evening Parent Session is on Wednesday 21st November between 7.00 and 8.30pm

A Reminder about our Uniform Please ensure that your children are dressed in our approved items of school uniform and that all items are clearly named. If you are unclear about our policy please find a copy on our school website. Also remind your students that they are responsible for looking after their tops and jackets. We find them around the school on a daily basis! I have noticed that many girls are wearing leggings and tights that are not black in colour. Long hair should always be tied back and we ask that all hair ribbons etc. are either black or red. No jewellery please! Thank you for supporting us in having all the students looking great at all times.

Have a great week everybody, Matthew

The WOW award stands for “The Writer Of the Week.’

It is awarded to an author at our school who the teachers believe have written a quality piece of

writing. The teachers select pieces of work from their class and then together decide which

piece is the WOW award for that week.

It could be from any grade from Foundation to Grade 6.

It needs to be a piece of writing where the audience would go

WOW!

Congratulations to

Anna H Grade 5/6A

This is her wonderful piece of writing

Why I should get a dog Dogs…. What do you think of when you hear the word dog? Cute, adorable, cute, adorable and cute with a side of

adorable. Exactly, and that is why I, Anna Hughson should get a dog and not just any dog but the most cute and adorable dog in the world!!

Now, my dear parents, listen up, as you know you guys are always talking about how we need to eat healthy and stay fit, mainly the eat healthy part. Having a dog would really help with health and fitness.

Dogs encourage exercise and playfulness. They even improve your cardiovascular health! Cardiovascular relates to the circulatory system, which consists of the heart and blood vessels and carries nutrients and oxygen to the tissues of the body and removes carbon dioxide.

Dogs can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, they also ease loneliness. There have been many scientific studies to support these statements. In one study it was proven that owning a dog can lower your blood pressure. While some studies haven't found as much proof as others, having a pet has the potential to lower your blood pressure, lots of scientists say that if you have a dog around your blood pressure is sure to be lower.

Another study proved that having a dog can ease pain. Believe it or not, pets can be the best medicine, especially if a person is dealing with chronic pain such as

migraines or arthritis, (and lets be honest you guys are probably going to start suffering from that pretty soon). Just like Valium, it reduces anxiety. The less anxiety, the less pain. One study from Loyola University found that people who use pet therapy while recovering from surgery may need significantly less medication than those who don't.

Now for the social side of things. When you have a dog, you obviously have to take it for walks and when you take them for walks you will meet new people and when you meet new people you get new friends and getting new friends is great!! As you can see having a dog is a very social thing, I mean can you even imagine how many new people you would meet. Now I know that I have already said this but I just can't stress it enough!

Caring for a dog takes a lot of responsibility. I know you think that I can't even look after the chickens but it gets annoying when they are not just my pets, if they were only my pets I would always do all of the jobs required. If I had a dog I would feed it, I would take it for walks and I would clean up its mess, you get the picture. It’s like the guinea pig thing, you think I can't look after it but I know I can!

In conclusion, if you guys were to get me a dog (or even a guinea pig), I think it would be one of the best days of my life! So please at least consider it, (dad)! And just remember, I love you very much.

Thanks for reading :) By Anna.

Dear Families,

It is with great regret that we have to inform you that the After the Bell Pupil Free

Day service on Tuesday 12/6 will NOT go ahead, as we have unfortunately not

reached the required level of interest to operate this day.

We do hope, however, to be able to offer this service to you in the future.

Thank you.
