PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

A busy start to the year with our STEAM program up and running, our new kindergarten students all settled in, our first assembly and our new student leadership team invested and ready to go. All the blocks are in place for a fantastic year at Hannans Road. Cheryl Butler

CARPARK The carpark is OUT OF BOUNDS for parents. This is a safety issue for our staff and at times our students. Thank you to all of those parents who support us in the safety of our staff and students, but please remember that parking on school grounds is not available to parents. STEAM AT HANNANS ROAD

Our STEAM group started working with Ms Mittiga this week. This group is working on developing their creative and critical thinking skills through a variety of activities based on science, technology, engineering, art and maths. In their first workshop, students were asked to dismantle a computer to identify how it works and then put it back together again! Practical, hands on experience working in groups. I can’t wait to see where they go from here.

NOTES AND MONEY We already have teachers organising excursions to support student learning this term. Please be aware that the notes have a due date, which means that notes and money must be returned by that date or students will be unable to attend the excursion or event. The school is happy to support families through a payment plan, or if you require more time please speak to your child’s teacher. SUPERVISION At Hannans Road our school hours are 9:30am – 3:30pm. There is no supervision of students prior to 9:00am. Students who are arrive before this time may be unsafe as they are unsupervised. Parents need to be aware that continually leaving students unsupervised before 9:00am may be a welfare issue. All students should be picked up at 3:30pm. We understand sometimes parents may be held up, and we appreciate a phone call to let us know. However, this should not be a regular occurrence. Students who are still at school after 3:30pm must wait in the office for a parent. Parents should come into the office to collect their child.

PSSA SPORT PSSA started last week, and our newcombe ball team played well and worked as a fantastic team. We also had some lovely feedback from visiting parents who commented on our lovely, friendly staff and beautiful school. HARMONY DAY This year we will be having a combined Harmony Day, Grandparents Day and Easter celebration on 9 April. Grandparents, parents and carers are invited to come along, join their child or grandchild’s class and share their stories. We will also be sharing some of our thoughts about Harmony at Hannans Road and following it all with a morning tea and hat parade. More information will be sent home soon. There will also be a Harmony Day competition – ‘Harmony in Pictures’ in which students are invited to submit a piece of work that expresses this theme. Below is more information about the competition.
