As medical materials are pushed to perform at higher levels, medical technology manufacturers have started to look to medical-grade polymers that are certified to
conform to specific property and quality standards, as well as applicable regulatory requirements. Celanese offers a broad portfolio of Medical Technology (MT®) polymers that conform to specific property and quality standards as well as applicable regulatory requirements, including Engineered Materials and EVA polymers.
ENGINEERED MATERIALS
Celanese is a leading global supplier of high-performance engineering polymers designed to drive growth
and innovation across all industries. They focus the full power of their development support services, advanced products and deep technical knowledge on the success of their customers, helping redefine the limits of material performance in the most demanding applications.
Their materials portfolio offers differentiated chemical and physical properties that enable them to perform in a variety of conditions. These include enduring a wide range of temperatures, resisting adverse chemical interactions and withstanding deformation. Their products are used in a broad range of performance-demanding applications, including fuel system components, automotive safety systems, consumer electronics, appliances, industrial products and medical applications.
Drug DeliveryCelanese is known for its innovative products
used in medical applications. High performance
engineering thermoplastics from its Celanese
business are ideal for drug delivery systems

Celanese’s EVA polymers business helps the
pharmaceutical industry develop controlled-
release products based on EVA polymers.
Medical DevicesCelanese materials are increasingly replacing
metals, ceramics and other traditional materials
in high-cost medical and pharmaceutical
devices — diagnostics, drug delivery and
multi-use surgical equipment. The extreme
properties of these materials can help OEMs
and manufacturers bring new products to
market quickly and confidently.
Orthopedic ImplantsUltra-high molecular weight polyethylene,
produced by Celanese’s engineered materials
business, is used in orthopedic implants. This
material provides an excellent combination
of properties including biocompatibility, high
abrasion resistance, impact strength, as well as
fatigue and crack resistance. Produced in the
form of a powder, GUR is the “gold standard”
for articulated bearing surfaces in artificial hip,
knee and shoulder joints. These Celanese
products comply with FDA regulations and
applicable standards.
