Page 2: Thriller title sequence

What makes a good title sequence?• The title sequence in a film is very important. It gives the

audience ideas of what's going to happen in the film without giving anything away. The girl with the dragon tattoo is a good example of a great title sequence, it has fast cuts between clips so that it doesn’t show to much that it gives it away. It gets the audience asking questions and thinking what they are seeing means.

This screen grab shows a person being tortured which is shown a number of times but for no longer than a few seconds. This is the same for a few other images and is used to give clues to what happens in the film and gets the audiences exited for the film and interested on what’s happening and gets them focused and drawn into the film.

Music used in an opening

The music choice for a film is very important. It will set the tone for the film and prepare the audience for the film. The music used in the example I watched (girl with the dragon tattoo) rock music was used. This showed that the film was going to be fast paced and exiting. The music in the title sequence give the audience clues like these at the start to draw them in and give them an idea on what type of film it will be. For our thriller dark gloomy music would be best to set the tone and make the audience feel different emotions and give them an idea on what the film is going to be about and make them think about similar films and what happened in them. Although we must use un copy righted music in our thriller.

What text is shown? • Who the production company is. • Who created the film.• Main actors- but not their characters names. • The title of the film. • Who done the casting.• Costume designer.• Sound designer.• Who done the music.• Editors.• Production designer. • Director of photography. • Executive producers.• Producers. • If it is based on a book, what the book is and who wrote it. • Director.

Not all of these will be in every film. The main ones such as, the director, the producers, editors and the production company will be in the title sequence of most films. Because in our title film their will only be four of us we will need to do multiple jobs each.
