This year at RHS, students and staff were more than happy to wel- come not one, but three new foreign exchange students. After the first week of school, Talissa Graber came from Germany to join the Sophomore Class and Alice Erlingmark came from Sweden to join the Junior Class. Starting a new school can be extremely stress- ful, so living in a different country with total strangers must be terrifying! Luckily, all three students seem to be enjoying Riverside and like their new environ- ment. When asked about why she came here, junior Alice Erlingmark said “I joined the program to expe- rience different cultures.” Carl joined the football team this year and said he loves be- ing a Ram. New RHS Electives for 2014-2015 School Yearby Kyleigh Snow RHS has five new exciting electives to offer to students. Creative Writing is a five credit elective, taught by Mrs. Salerno. This elective can help students by giving them examples of how to start their writing. This course covers writing styles such as persuasive, narrative, and short stories. The goals for the class are for it to be fun and interesting and for students to really learn about themselves and their writing style. E-Marketing is a five credit elective, and is taught by Mrs. Lauletta. E-Marketing helps students become more aware of the marketing business

both on and offline. It makes the students realize how much thought and work they have to put in to getting a product on the market and how social media can help promote their product. Anyone who wants to major in marketing or busi-ness should take this class. SAT Math is taught by Mrs. Hunter, and is two and a half credits. This elective is half the year and the other half is SAT English with Mr. Winton, which is also two and a half credits. Each elective will help the students prepare for the SAT’s so they will have

a better chance of being accepted into a four year college. It is recommended that sophomores and juniors take this course. Public Speaking is also taught by Mr. Win-ton. Any student can take this class. Public speaking is a big part of life. This elective can help students get over the fear of speak-ing publicly, as well as prepare them for college. Mr. Winton hopes students hear good things about this elective and more people take it over the years. It will help all students improve their speak-ing skills.

Riverside’s Cross Country 2014 Season may be the fastest yet… Usually not a lot of students go out for the team, but this year seems to prove otherwise. Running under the guidance of three captains this year: Nicholas Weydig, Joseph Yunga, and Alexis Petti, thirteen highly motivated students joined the

team. These ad-ditions brought the total number of runners to twenty-four. They most likely won’t be calling themselves the Cross Country “squad” anymore. Some new members of the team turned out to have a natural tal-ent for running. This includ-ed Grant Moore

with a 5K time of 20’07”. Eric Au-cay he has yet to run his first meet, but is catching up fast! The girls’ team, which is the largest in a few years has a total of nine runners. Both teams have been working hard, but still have a lot of work to do. Coach Stell-wag says it’s one of the fastest teams

he has had in years, but as his team gets better so does the competition. In order to take the Freedom Division Title this year, the team will have to be even faster.

Rams Add to Their Flock and Run Wild

The RHS Girls’ Soccer Team is bringing the heat back again this season! They are the team to beat with a 14– 1 re-cord. The captains this year are Lynd-say MiCucci, Alix VanSciver, Carley Newman, and Haylee Loveland. Captain practices started in July and in August, the team worked hard to get

ready for practice with Coach Ogden. During captain practices the girls bonded and be-came very close. When asked what Alix’s favor-ite activity with the team was, she responded “rock, tree, bridge”. It is an activity where there are two teams and someone makes like a rock, someone makes

like a tree, and the other person would be the bridge. The person running would have to jump over the rock, run around the tree two or three times, and then crawl under the bridge. Then, which ever team got to the fence first won. The goal for the team is to win states. The girls have worked very

hard so far and deserve to win it. The Lady Rams have held the Freedom Division Title for the past

two years, hope-fully this year the girls will make it a three-peat.

Lady Rams Rally for a Three-Peat

by Daniel Heston The RHS Boys’ Soccer Team have not stopped fighting.Despite their 4-12 record, the boys go out every game and play their hearts out. Their four wins came

from Pemberton, St. Joseph's, Do-ane Academy and Willingboro. The Rams are looking to add more wins to their record. John McFadden is the leading scorer for the team with

sixteen goals. When asked about this year’s team and what the sea-son meant, senior Kenneth Swartz stated “this season is reconstruction for the upcoming seasons”. That

statement holds true due to the fact that there are three underclass-men starting on the varsity line up. A noticeable im-provement is seen from last season, mainly because the

Rams did not win a single game. With all of the players perform-ing well and the team only losing four seniors next season, the team is optimistic for a better season.

Since Au-gust, the 2014 RHS Cheer Team has been practicing very hard. Early summer mornings at Walnut Street were spent practicing band dances and cheers. While learning how to pep up the crowd at games, Ms. Hans-

berry helped the girls perfect stunts for the games as well. The team is lead by three fabu-lous captains: Yandra Nunes, Ke'onda Nesmith, and Taylor DeJoseph. With the varsity football team being 4-3, the girls get more pumped

each and every game! Cheer Captain Taylor DeJoseph said "I like this year, it's fun, and winning the games makes the sea-son more enjoyable". Between the band playing the touchdown song more often and the crowd going wild,

the season is excit-ing. Even off the field the girls are still practicing other routines. The girls also worked very hard to perfect every move for the recent homecom-ing pep rally. With twenty girls on the

team, it isn't as easy as it sounds. The more they practice, the more the cheer team bonds and gets to know each other . With all the girls working hard and showing their dedication, it will all be worth it in the end.

On Friday September 19th, 2014, the football team won their first game in two years against The Wild-wood Warriors. The Rams scored 22 points in the fourth quarter after erasing a 20-6 halftime, to end a 23-game losing streak and defeat

Wildwood 40-26. Jordan Harrod was the lead scorer with 3 touchdowns. Christian Furniss and Andrew Belcher kept the crowd pumped, scoring the last two touch-downs second half. Coach, Dan Harris, had two buckets of water dumped on him by the team for

his commitment to helping the team get a win. The excite-ment in the football player’s faces, the loud inspirational cheers from our cheerleaders, and the amazing band put-ting a little rhythm in the crowd’s feet, made this the game of the year.

On Friday September 25th, 2014, the football team won their second game in a row against Maple Shade Wildcats 28-20. The game was very close. Captains senior Aaron Hoffman, juniors Teddy Gauntt and Andrew Belcher,

and sophomore Chris Henderson all said they were not leaving this school without a win. The season has continued to be exciting for the team and they cur-rently have a record of 4-3. Make sure to come out and support our boys at their next game.

“RAM-ing” Up the Competition

After losing seven seniors from the previous season, the field hockey team knew if they wanted the title this year they would have to step up and fight for it. That is exactly what they did. Coaches, Mrs. Hunter and Ms. Stypinski along with the five seniors, lead this team to not only a division title, but the first one in Riverside history. Captains are seniors Allie Jenkins, Catarina Pereira, Sasha Chang, and junior Marlene

Costa. The season took an early break with a devastating season-ending ACL injury to starting senior and captain Sasha Chang. The team proved they would not give up and Sa-sha cheered them on along the sidelines. Allie and Marlene work “up top” as they create plays and scoring opportuni-ties, while Cat holds the back, as a star goalie who has had unbelievable saves and shutouts. All eleven players on the field, as well as all of the players on the

bench have showed their talent and improvement on the field this year. Their victorious record this year is 7-8-1. New faces and team lead-ership made it easy for the team to bond, such as dinner before game days, sharing treats and goodies in school, or just simply creating the feeling of “one team, one family”. The team has also came together to share the memory of losing their cherished baby giraffe, who is still missing. But it is not all fun and games, at practices everyone

works hard towards one goal, a victory. Bonding and hard work from the players and the coaches surely did

pay off this year. This field hockey season has proven what River-side is really made of.
