FIVB PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Volleyball and beach volleyball are growing, there is no denying that. Every year we attract more fans of all ages, and those supporters learn – by attending FIVB competitions – that ours is a thrilling and exciting sport to watch live.
We have come so far in such a short space of time that it is important not to plateau or stall on this fantastic growth.
Countries and cities have a golden opportunity to draw the spotlight on their communities. Competitions have taken place in all manner of venues – from the Foro Italico in Rome to the beaches of Mexico and the halls of Puerto Rico – there are no limits. With a wide range of properties, almost any city can have the opportunity to welcome volleyball and beach volleyball at any level.
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 produced a unique concept, with four cities hosting the tournament for the
first time. This was an overwhelming success as a record attendance of almost 110,000 fans from around the world experienced sold-out matches.
The Netherlands 2015 was preceded by the FIVB Volleyball World Championships 2014, with Italy welcoming the women’s edition and Poland the men’s. It was a true volleyball extravaganza, highlighted by an incredible 62,000 fans packing into the National Stadium in Warsaw for the opening men’s match between Poland and Serbia.
The event ushered in a new era, redefining the sport as dynamic family entertainment and setting a new benchmark for the future. I look forward to seeing where we will be heading next.
Dr. Ary S. Graça F° FIVB President
06 / 07
“Having spent most of my life in volleyball, I have been privileged to attend some of the biggest and best events around the world. It is thanks to the organisers of these occasions and the partnership with the FIVB that the volleyball family has been welcomed with open arms time and again across the globe. I never tire of hearing similar stories from many of the FIVB’s stakeholders.”

“It was amazing to work closely together with all partners bringing the idea of this new concept to life. A long term partnership with the FIVB has been secured and beach volleyball has been presented as an exciting new experience to a large audience in the Netherlands.”
Niels Markensteijn, Managing Partner, TIG Sports
“What remains after the World Championship is also important for us. All kinds of activities and events promoting volleyball among children and youth have been going on in the host cities and those will surely be continued. The Trophy Tour made it possible for the fans to see the new trophy with their own eyes.”
Arthur Popko, Vice President, Polish Volleyball Federation
“The new concept of entertainment could be a turning point in the broadcast of the event. It will also help people understand how volleyball works and how easy it is to start playing.”
Fernando Marquez, Beach Volleyball Sport Manager, Rio 2016
“This is far beyond the wildest dreams, it is something we didn’t expect at all. The connection between the development, the grassroots programme and the top athletes really worked out perfectly.”
Michael Evraert, Sports Director, Dutch Volleyball Federation
HOST CITY PROGRAMME
• Use of event marks (host city composite logo, official designation, host city icons)
• Event branding (integration of the host city name in some of the decoration material within the venue of the host city during all event matches or at any other official events related to the event, such as the official draw, depending on the overall concept of such events
• Marketing Rights (advertising boards at the venue, floor sticker, media backdrops, official programme)
• TV graphics (inclusion of host city name into TV graphics, 30 sec promotional spot before the start of each broadcast)
• Host City Activities (Fan Zones, Trophy Tour etc)
• Event website presence
In order to fully integrate the host cities in the organisation of the event, the FIVB has developed a specific Host City Programme, by which the host city will be granted a set of marketing rights, enabling them to properly promote their status as a host city of the event.
This approach builds a sense of inclusiveness and ‘ownership’
