Real Question Board 2Peace or Peace or

Problems?Problems?

This is what the “M” stands for in MAIN-

Germany proved their execution of this idea when they sent the Panther to challenge French holdings in

Africa.

Militarism

As a result of the Franco-Prussian War, France had

to cede this land. They got it back after WWI.

Alsace-Lorraine

Nationalism took hold in this

peninsula made up of Slavic peoples but controlled by foreign Empires, such as Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire.

Balkan

The dismissal of this German chancellor, who was behind several of the alliances, changed the climate of European politics

Bismarck

The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand by the Black Hands might’ve had something to do with Austria-Hungary preventing this country from annexing Albania and Macedonia. With the Austrian Ultimatum rejected, war became a reality.

Serbia

This was Germany’s

original “game plan”, which was

put in place to quickly defeat

France and avoid a two-front war.

Schlieffen

This was the area between enemy trenches where no

soldier would dare go.

No Man’s Land

This allied country was suffering countless defeats on the Eastern front, ceding land

to Germany. Too bad the Germans couldn’t keep the

land after the war.

Russia

It was at this battle that the Allied forces used taxis to halt the

German advance after they crossed through neutral Belgium and into

France.

Battle of the Marne

Though this campaign was an utter failure, it

influenced Allied tactics in WWII and

increased the sense of nationalism among

Australians and New Zealanders.

Gallipoli

The sinking of this British passenger liner caused the death of over 100 lives.

Lusitania

While this new German weapon did not prove to be a huge determinant in the course of the war, it certainly threatened neutral U.S. merchant ships on the Atlantic.

U-Boats

Despite campaigning on the slogan “He Kept Us

Out of War” in 1916, Wilson convinced

Congress to declare war in 1917 after the discovery of this

telegram that revealed a Mexican- German

alliance

Zimmerman Note

This American led the AEF, or the American Expeditionary Force, in Europe. His nickname sounds like a card game.

John “Black Jack” Pershing

The United States convinced the

British to use this escort system to

cut shipping losses in half.

Convoy System

The war ended not with an

unconditional surrender, but instead this, on

11/11/18.

Armistice

Germany faltered in the Summer and Fall of 1918 largely due to the U.S. entrance into war and the government’s failure to do this effectively, which led to inflation.

Finance the war; Tax private firms

These four countries were invited to the Paris Peace Conference, while Germany was not.

Italy, US, GB, France

Germany was forced to sign the guilt

clause, accepting the blame for the war, and accept

these three other consequences of the Treaty of Versailles.

Forfeit territories (East and A-L);

Reduce Military; Pay reparations

This was Wilson’s 7th point in his Fourteen Point plan of “peace with honor”; it would

give European countries a forum to discuss foreign affairs. The United States never

agreed to join it.

League of Nations

•This committee was created with the intention to influence public opinion in the direction of supporting the war. It used propaganda and books.

Committee on Public

Information

This board was created in the U.S. to resolve problems between laborers and management.

War Labor Board

This illness swept the world in 1918-1919 and resulted in approximately 30 million deaths.

Influenza

This country suffered a genocide of almost 1.5

million at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.

ArmeniansArmenians

This man was jailed for comparing the

draft to indentured servitude. His trial

raised the question of the right of

government to restrict individual liberties in

times of crisis.

Charles Schenck

Final Jeopardy!!!!!!!!!!!!

•Name the representatives of the “Big Four” with their respective countries.
