Remember that you are dust...
Ash Wednesday is the day
on which we Christians begin our Lenten journey to
Easter. Although it is not a holy day of obligation, many
people fill our churches to
receive ashes on that mid-week day. From brand-new
babies to great-great-grandparents, everyone
comes forward to receive the ashen cross and to hear the words, “Remember that
you are dust and unto dust you shall return.” Or “Repent
and believe the Good News!”
The earthy ashes help us to “ground” ourselves deeply into the reawakening roots of God’s eternal springtime.
We shake off the dead branches and stems of last year’s
growth, and begin to sprout new growth. Through prayer, fasting, and helping those in need we become
more and more like Christ. It’s good to be mindful of our human failings and our need for a fresh start.
Wearing the ashen cross is an opportunity to begin
again, from the ground” up.
Fish Fry
Good Shepherd Men's Club will be holding a Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, March 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. They will be serving an all you can eat menu of fish, French fries, cole slaw and dessert. Soft drinks and coffee included. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets will be available after all Masses next week.
My mother taught me about wisdom. “When you get my age you’ll understand.”

Women’s Club Outreach Community
Luncheon
Many thanks to parishioners who helped with the
Community Luncheon held on Saturday, February 23.
Eight churches from our community and invited guests
were in attendance at our Parish Life Center for a meal
and fellowship sponsored by the Women’s Club. Our
plan was to join together in sharing the Love of Christ
with church members and residents of the McCormick
community. With the help of parishioners and friends
we celebrated our God and His Goodness with prayer,
music, games, and delicious food. The churches present
for the event, and several additional congregations,
wish to move forward with future ideas to unite our
community.
Blessings to all for your support, your prayers, and your
gifts.
