FISHERS OF MEN ONLINE AUCTION Join us this February for our first Fishers of Men online auction, which supports our men in seminary. Although we were not able to host our annual dinner in 2020 due to the pandemic, our seminarians for the Diocese of Harrisburg still need your support. In these challenging times, we must continue to provide a solid seminary formation for the abundant number of men responding to God’s call. There is no cost to view our auction items, and bidding will run from Thursday, February 4th through Sunday, February 7th. Visit bit.ly/fishersofmenauction2021 to view our auction items or to make a donation.

  • SUNDAY OF

    THE WORD OF GOD

Keeping the Lord’s Day Holy: Sunday Prayer at Home

Introductory Rites: A hymn may be sung. Then, making the Sign of the Cross, the family begins:

Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

    All: Amen.

Leader: We gather today to celebrate the Lord’s day. We are unable to be with our parish

family. However, one with our brothers and sisters at St. Pius X parish and with the entire Church, let us listen to God’s Word and join in prayer.

Penitential Act Leader: Coming together as God’s family, with confidence let us acclaim the Father’s

forgiveness, for God is full of gentleness and compassion. Lord Jesus, you heal the sick. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you forgive sinners. Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord Jesus, you feed us with your Body and Blood. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Opening Prayer Leader: Let us pray.

O God, who willed that our infirmities be borne by your Only Begotten Son to show the value of human suffering, listen in kindness to our prayers for our brothers and sisters who are sick; grant that all who are oppressed by pain, distress or other afflictions may know that they are chosen among those proclaimed blessed and are united to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Gloria: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will....

    Liturgy of the Word

    First Reading : Jonah 3:1-5, 10.

    Responsorial Psalm: 25: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9.

    Second Reading : 1 Corinthians 7:29-31

    Gospel: Mark 1: 14-20.

    Shared Faith Reflections

Families should spend some time discussing and reflecting on the meaning of the readings and help each other to see God’s message for them at this time. Everyone could share something that was meaningful or especially important.

    The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, {at the words that follow, up to and including the Virgin Mary, all bow. } who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Holding fast to the Word of life. Phil 2:16.

  • Intercessions Inspired by the readings and the needs of the family, the Church, and the world, members propose special intentions and invite everyone to say, “Lord, hear our prayer.”

The Lord’s Prayer is recited by all.

Act of Spiritual Communion Explaining that Jesus will come to anyone who invites Him, the family

then recites together the Act of Spiritual Communion followed by a period of quiet prayer.

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Thanksgiving After a period of silence, the following Psalm is recited together. Psalm 116 I trusted, even when I said: "I am sorely afflicted," and when I said in my alarm: "No man can be trusted."

How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me? The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call on the Lord's name. My vows to the Lord I will fulfill before all his people.

O precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His faithful. Your servant, Lord, your servant am I; you have loosened my bonds. A thanksgiving sacrifice I make; I will call on the Lord's name. My vows to the Lord I will fulfill before all His people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem.

Blessing Making the Sign of the Cross, we say together: May the Lord bless us, protect us from evil, and bring us into everlasting life. Amen.

A concluding hymn may be sung.

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

MEALS FOR SEALS Donations of gift cards or money will ensure the success of the program and can make a difference in the life of a child. Place your donations in an envelope marked MEALS FOR SEALS. Mail or drop off envelope to the parish office.

MEMORARE TO ST. JOSEPH Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who implored your help and sought your intercession were left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power I fly unto you and beg your protection. Despise not O Guardian of the Redeemer my humble supplication, but in your bounty, hear and answer me. Amen.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION WARRIORS AND COVID-19 Thank you fellow warriors for your continued commitment to adoration in this time of uncertainty. I call you warriors because you step up to the challenge of being with Jesus despite the adversities. Let us not get complacent and let our guard down about the reality of Covid-19. Please, Please use the sanitizers provided and review the guidelines for use that are posted at the door to the chapel. God is in control and He needs our help to stay clean, stay close and stay open.

NEW BOOK: GRACE IN HORROR BY REV. MODESTUS NGWU O.P. Life is filled with questions for which we struggle to find answers. Most of them tend to arise when facing uncertainty, powerlessness, or hopelessness while lying on a hospital bed. It is not infrequent to hear family members, friends, and even the clergy offering comfort by almost compulsively using phrases like, "Everything happens for a reason," or "It is God's will." While well intended, these words tend to provide little solace to the afflicted. Propelled by the fear of judgment by those whom they hold in high regard, they push down the pain of feeling abandoned by God and adrift in their faith journey. In a quest to seek some comfort, it is easy to find books on grace that are plentiful in favor, joyfulness, and merry-making advice. However, what if there were more to grace? Unapologetic about his own internal struggle while witnessing unspeakable suffering, Fr. Modestus Ngwu OP produced an honest, insightful, and provocative piece that provides a transformative and compassionate approach to grace. Ground-ed on authentic pastoral care, he invites the reader to get acquainted with and draw strength from the beautifully crafted and detailed stories derived from his many experiences. The indestructibility of God's infinite grace, hope, and love during periods of suffering are the cornerstones of his book, Grace in Horror. Copies of the book are available in our parish office. Hardcover $ 30.95, Softcover $ 17.95. Cash or checks made payable to Rev. Modestus Ngwu.

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM St. Pius X parish warmly invites you to join the Spiritual Adoption Program that the Harrisburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (HDCCW) is planning for all the parishes in the Diocese. The nine-month program will begin on Friday, January 29, 2021 when the March for Life is taking place in Washington, D.C. and will end in October 2021, Respect Life Month. At the conclusion of the program a baby shower will be held in November (date to be announced) at the Diocesan Center in Harrisburg for those who have been participating. At that time, we would invite the participants to donate baby items which will be donated to pregnancy centers in the Diocese. Details of items needed would be on the HDCCW website: hdccw.webs.com. Parishioners who plan to participate should fill out a Spiritual Adoption Card. The form and card will be on the HDCCW website at hdccw.webs.com next week.

Each month for nine months participants will receive a report from the Legislation/Respect Life Commission of the HDCCW on the development of the adopted baby in the womb. Prayer is the best weapon to help them – the most effective. Say this prayer daily for nine months to save a baby’s life: Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen :

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby

that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”
