Thinking Task:
Write down the date.
Then try to work out what the title for this lesson is and write it down..
Clue:S______, L______ and G______.
Objectives and Outcomes for this Lesson.Lesson Objective:
Summarise how a single chemical can exist in all 3 states.
What to aim for:
Level 4:Explain differences between solids liquids and gasses. Level 5:Classify materials as solids, liquids and gases. Level 6:Explain the properties of solids, liquids and gasses.
Level 7:Speculate the cause of anomalies in the heating curve of water.
To be a good scientists you should be able to use key words to explain scientific
ideas.
How can I get a merit in this lesson?
• Each good work stamp is worth one merit.
• A good reflective account at the end of the lesson will be worth a merit.
Starter Task:
• You have 7 minutes working in groups.
• Write down as much as you can about solids, liquids and gasses.
Experiment.
• Place the test tube into a beaker of water and heat with the air hole half open.
• Plot the temperature on the graph every 30 seconds.
• Draw in a smooth curve line of best fit.
• One graph per group!
Task 1:
• Work in your half groups.
• Stick your graph in the middle of the page.
• Split the graph into sections for solid, liquid and gas and then explain the properties of each.
• Remember the success criteria!
Final Task• Write a reflective account of what you have learnt in
this lesson.
• Compare the sheet your group did at the start of the lesson and the sheet you completed in the lesson to help you.
