There Is Only Happiness :)Part I

Here is a provocative statement for us to digest “there is only

happiness.” If this statement is true, then the unhappiness we

feel must not represent what we truly are. Yes, we can hear

most of you are arguing this is incorrect because the belief is

you can only be happy some of the time, but it’s definitely

impossible to be happy all the time. Just take a look at the

daily news for example, where there are constant reports of

conflicts, tragedies and financial woes. What is even worse is

when these negative events happen to us personally so how

can we be happy about that?

Since we view the world and ourselves in this way, happiness can only happen once in

a while. You can feel happy only when you get what you want or when things are

going according to your expectations. That’s the belief system that the majority

subscribes to and we don’t recognize anything else that might change this

    perception.

Therefore, let us start with a new premise that in reality “there is only happiness” to jolt your consciousness so that you might be open to a new possibility and be

interested in expanding your mind to gain clarity, insight and wisdom. We would

like to show you that there is actually such thing as true or unconditional happiness

and you can experience this feeling of “well being” all the time despite of

circumstances. By allowing yourself to explore and understand your negative

emotions and limiting beliefs, you will begin to have a different view of reality and

see everything from a clearer and wider perspective.

Thus, we invite you to take a journey with us to understand how consciousness

works and discover what is obstructing your mind from experiencing your naturalstate of true happiness. By incorporating a daily practice of meditation and

mindfulness, it will help you to be in the state of balance and also elevate your

consciousness to see the bigger picture of existence. As you expand your awareness

to broaden your perception of reality, you will experience your true state of well being

and discover that unconditional happiness has been residing within you all along.

Question: What is true happiness or unconditional happiness?

Everyone is familiar with temporary pleasure or conditional happiness. We are happy

when we get what we want such as:

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    3/126

I feel happy when I’m financially rich.I feel happy when I’m successful in my career.

I feel happy when I have a partner who loves me.I feel happy when other people like and respect me.

I feel happy when my body is healthy.

Everyone can agree that when we get what we desire, we

tend to feel very good about ourselves. However, life is full

of surprises and changes happen. The economy goes sour

and you get laid off from your job. You cannot find a romantic partner or your

significant other has an affair. Someone says something negative about you and you

feel offended. Your doctor tells you that you have a terminal illness. When these things

happen, it’s very difficult for us to feel happy. Conditional happiness is rather difficult

to maintain due to the unexpected. Life becomes a struggle when we only rely on this

    type of happiness.

Most people would try to get around this problem by

buying their way into happiness. They would try to

accumulate the material wealth because they believe

money is the solution to joy. When they do reach their goal

of being financially successful, they find that it’s quite fun

and exciting at first. However, after awhile their level ofhappiness wears off  so they actually don’t feel any

happier because of the big bank account. If you have spent

any time with rich people or if you’re one yourself, you

would know this to be true. We recommend you watch a documentary called “I Am”

by Tom Shadyac. He’s a famous movie director for such films as “Ace Ventura,” “Liar

Liar,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Bruce Almighty.” When he became rich and

successful, he too wasn’t any happier because of it. He actually felt emotionally empty

inside. How strange is that? Most people would assume that this type of success

would do it. Why doesn’t it make us feel any happier?

The problem is being financially rich doesn’t get rid of your negative emotions. The

financial wealth might give you the sense of security that everything is okay because

you have money in your pocket. However, if you still have fear, anger, hatred, anxiety,

    worry, frustration, restlessness, self-doubt, boredom, guilt, shame or discontentment;

these feelings will still be with you when you have money.

Is there anyone in the world who is truly happy? Actually, there are many and those

are the ones who have unconditional happiness. They are happy regardless of their

circumstances because true happiness is independent of life situation; it is simply

based on our natural state of being.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    4/126

Question: What is our natural state of being?

It’s a state of joy, inner peace, contentment, unconditional love, appreciation, compassion, gratitude,

clarity, inspiration, creativity, insight and wisdom.

Question: If this is our natural state, why don’t I feel

or experience it all the time? Why do I have negative

    emotions?

It’s because you have forgotten what you truly are. You have been taught to believe

in conditional happiness. You can only be happy if you get what you want. This is theonly view that you have about life; therefore, you keep chasing after happiness,

thinking that it’s outside of you. You try to accumulate the material wealth to attain

it, but when you get there, you still feel that there is something missing because you

haven’t found contentment, and you never will find unconditional happiness as long

as you keep looking outside of yourself.

True happiness is not out there. It exists within you. To feel or experience it, you

simply learn to balance your emotional state and expand your perspective. Through

understanding how consciousness functions, gaining insight into its motivation and

letting go of negative emotions, it will lead you to connect to your highest joy andallow you to experience what it’s like to be truly happy without relying on certain

    circumstances.

Question: So, it’s just a matter of changing the quality of one’s mind?

Yes, it’s about expanding your awareness so that you can be

congruent with your natural state. The negative emotions

occur due to consciousness being out of alignment.

However, you can remedy that by being in balance. It’s a

state of clarity where you’re able to gain insight and see

the cause of your unhappiness without blame or judgment.

When you realize the root cause of your stress, it then

becomes obvious that you don’t need to keep holding on to it; thus, your mind

naturally releases the tension. As the result, your consciousness will feel much

lighter and expand itself  to where you feel immensely joyful and discover that you

can be happy in any situation because you can always let go of your negative reaction

and view reality from a different angle.

Comment: You make it sound so simple.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    5/126

It actually is. However, many people have been responding negatively to life situations

that they have accumulated a lot of stress; therefore, they find it difficult to let go of

their unhappiness. Surprisingly, the solution to this problem actually lies within us.

In this book we will explain how the mind works and the information will assist you in

finding your state of balance. Practicing is the key because you become what you

practice. Unfortunately, most of us have practiced ourselves into having a stressful

mind. Now it’s time to liberate ourselves so we can experience our natural state of

    independent happiness.

Question: Does true happiness exclude us from having

    abundance and material wealth?

No, it doesn’t mean that at all. By being centered or balanced,

your mind will experience clarity, which will lead you to gain

insight and wisdom. As the result you will become more

motivated and innovative. You can use your inspiration and

creativity to produce works that would benefit yourself and

    others; therefore, attract abundance.

However, if you’re in a negative state, you will attract harmful things to you as well.

This is because your consciousness is drawn to drama; therefore, it brings forth chaos.

Question: So, all we have to do is to think positively to attract positive situations

    to ourselves?

No, it doesn’t mean that, even though it’s nice to have positive thoughts. What we are

referring to is your state of being. You are unconditional happiness itself. Since this is

the quality of your consciousness where your mind is vibrating in the state of joy, it

naturally inspires you to take beneficial actions.

Question: Again, if joy is our natural state, why isn’t everyone feeling it?

It’s because we have some false concepts of reality, which cause

us to have a very limited view of life. These misunderstandings

create stress and suffering in our mind. All of us have experienced

joy at one time or another; however, we cannot maintain it

because we make joy conditional. Since it’s conditional and

depends on certain circumstances, happiness can only be

experienced sporadically if the situation pleases you or meets

your expectation. However, no matter how hard you try in

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    6/126

life, you simply cannot control all the circumstances that are outside of you. Changes

happen. This, of course, frustrates your mind because

your joy is dependent on controlling the situation and

having it the way you prefer. Since this is not alwayspossible, the mind reacts negatively and stresses itself

out due to how it approaches reality.

Now, to experience your natural state of happiness,

you would have to make your joy unconditional. This

requires you to let go of your limiting beliefs. As you

expand your mind through your own practice of inner

peace, you will gain a wider perception of how reality works. This practice will help

you to be in balance and give you the skills to let go of your stressful emotions. Onceyou’re centered and your mind is full of clarity, insight and wisdom; you will

naturally experience unconditional happiness and embrace life with pure joy,

    intelligence and creativity.

Question: Does it take a long time to achieve this?

It’s up to the individual. Don’t think of it as an achievement. It’s not a goal oriented

activity, but it’s a state of being. This will make more sense to you when you start

practicing it. You will relax into your natural state and discover your infinite potential.

Question: What if people don’t believe you? They only believe in conditional joy.

They believe unconditional happiness is impossible.

Well, we’re not here to convince anyone. We are simply

sharing information and explaining how consciousnessworks. You don’t have to believe us. However, if you have

the belief that it’s impossible then it will be impossiblebecause you’re limiting yourself by clinging to that idea.

Therefore, we invite everyone to expand their minds. In

doing this you will gain the rewards of experiencing

infinite joy, inner peace, contentment, unconditional

love, independent happiness, gratitude, insight and wisdom. What have you got

to lose except your own negative emotions and limiting beliefs, which are distracting

    you from being truly happy?

    How Consciousness Works

To experience your natural state of unconditional happiness, you need to clear up

some misunderstandings. The first misunderstanding is happiness is conditional, which means you can only be happy if you get what you

want. If you cannot get what you desire, then you must be

unhappy about it. This misinterpretation of reality causes

your emotion to fluctuate with your life circumstances

(happy in one moment, but sad in the next).

So, why do we have this misunderstanding and only believe

    in conditional happiness?

To understand that we would have to know how consciousness works and how it

    creates reality.

For all of us, reality is instantaneous. You wake up in the morning and there it is.

You’re seeing your environment, hearing different sounds, touching objects, tastingfood and smelling what is around you. You’re aware that you have thoughts and

    feelings.

Unfortunately, most of us don’t question reality. We just experience it, and it may

appear as though it’s happening outside of us.

Now, let’s go behind the scene and see how the mind actually produces reality.

First of all, we need consciousness to perceive reality. Without

consciousness, there is no experience. Just like when you

    blackout, you don’t perceive anything.

So, what exactly is consciousness? Consciousness is energy or

vibration. In fact, everything that you experience is energy, and

    it’s constantly vibrating.

Thus, the mind uses these different energies or vibrations to produce reality.

    1.  Mind /Consciousness (thinking and feeling)energy vibration

    2.  Five senses [sight, sound, touch, taste and smell] energy vibration

    3.  Light  energy vibration

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    8/126

    4.  Color  energy vibration

    5.  Sound  energy vibration

    6.  All physical objects energy vibration

    7.  Positive and negative charges energy vibration

Here is how it looks to you in physical reality. When you start

out as an infant, you’re equipped with your senses (sight,

sound, touch, taste smell and mind [thinking + feeling]), and you use them to create

    your reality.

Each sense has its own function. Your sight sense interprets light & color, perceives

distance and sees the world in three dimensions in length, width and height. Yourhearing interprets sound and recognizes different audio frequencies, level of loudness,

pitches and tones. Your taste sense detects flavors such as sweet, bitter, salty, spicy, bland or sour. With your sense of touch, you can tell whether an object is smooth, soft,

hard, grainy, rough, cold, warm or hot while your sense of smell can detect odors suchas fresh, clean, sweet, rotten, musty, and so on. The most important sense of all is your

consciousness because it collects all the information that it receives via its five sensesand uses the data to interpret the overall picture of reality. The mind reacts to what it

sees, hears, touches, tastes and smells and creates thoughts and feelings; hence, consciousness is the very thing that assigns meaning to reality.

Question: Are you implying there is no reality out there until consciousness givesmeaning to it?

Yes, that is correct. Each person is a creator and experiencer of his or her own reality.

Therefore, how you react to something will determine how you feel.

If you could recall back to when you were an infant, and the

environment was completely new to you. It actually had nomeaning until your mind began to give meaning to reality by

interacting with people and objects around you. As you did that,

things began to have meaning because your mind was associatingthese situations with names and significances. Each time that you

reacted to a person or an object, your mind created a particular

thought or feeling about it; thus, meaning arose in your

consciousness. Reality is being formed through this process of

    interaction.

Let’s take a look at how the mind does it.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    9/126

Let’s use an apple as an example:

When you see an object (using sight sense), there’s contact between you and the light, and it reflects the image of the object back  to your eyes. The

mind then labels this image and gives it a name called “apple.” You grab

the apple (using touch sense) and take a bite into it (using taste sense).

After tasting it, your mind generates a response “I like it” (produces a

positive feeling) or “I don’t like it” (produces a negative feeling). The information

about the object and the emotional response are then stored in your memory.

    Let’s summarize it in sequence:

    1. The Mind receives input from its senses (sight, sound, touch,

taste and smell). What am I seeing, hearing, touching, tasting

    or smelling?

    2. The Mind identifies and labels the description to the object.

Give the object a name and assign meaning to it.

    3. The Mind judges or evaluates the object. Is this (object,

person or situation) good or bad?

    4. The Mind generates an emotional response – “I like it” (produces a pleasurable

feeling) or “I don’t like it” (produces an unpleasant feeling) in regard to the object,

    person or situation.

    5. The Mind decides what to do about the object, person or situation. It can also

    choose to do nothing.

    6. The Mind stores the information and the emotional response in memory.

This mental processing creates a huge database, which stores

everything we experience through our six senses. Not only does itkeep track of each data and its meaning, it also keeps track of our

emotional responses (feelings) that associate with the particular

    data.

For example, if you were to think of your first love, your memory

might play back  a warm fuzzy happy feeling if you had a positive

    experience.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    10/126

However, it might play back  a stressful feeling if you had a negative experience with

    that particular person.

Comment: That’s interesting how you break reality down step by step because I

normally don’t notice the sequences of what my mind is doing when I’m

    experiencing reality.

Yes, the mind is the quickest entity in the universe; thus, most of us don’t stop to

witness the process frame by frame, but we experience reality fluidly like watching a

movie because the mind is able to put all the frames together at a speed where it plays

smoothly like an animation. Some people might think that reality is happening

outside of them, but in actuality it’s happening within their own minds according to

    their own interpretations.

Question: If that is the case, shouldn’t each one of us experience a different

    reality altogether?

In a way, each one of us does. Although we can agreewe’re seeing the same object, hearing the same sound,

tasting the same food, touching the same item or

smelling the same odor; how each person reacts to that

same situation would still be unique to the individual. This happens to us all the time in everyday life. When

we’re out having dinner with other people, even though

we’re sharing the experience of being together, each

person is interpreting that reality differently according

to his or her own consciousness, which creates the individual’s thoughts and feelings.

Some might enjoy that dinner experience tremendously and yet some people, who

are sitting at the same table, might not and feel otherwise.

Comment: That’s why no one can agree on what is the

best dish in the world since it depends upon the

individual’s interpretation, which is simply based on

    what the person prefers.

That’s correct. The mental processing that we’ve described

above creates a personal preference of likes and dislikes.

Each time your mind judges something, it will generate a pleasurable or unpleasant

feeling. If it generates a positive emotion, it will then create a positive association

with that particular object or person. However, if your mind generates a negative

emotion, naturally a negative association will result.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    11/126

Comment: In that case, the problem is not the food, but how we react to the food.

If the mind reacts positively to the item then it produces the sensation of

pleasure, where the mind assigns a positive meaning to the food and labels it as“delicious”. If the mind reacts negatively, then it will not like the food and labels

    it as “unsavory”.

Yes, you’re correct; therefore, reality is actually neutral until your mind judges it and

gives a positive or a negative meaning to it.

Because this mental processing has been going on since birth, you have developed a

pattern of behavior based on how you react to things. This process forms your sense

of self, personality, your outlook on life and how you perceive the world. Much of whatyou learn also comes from other people and society’s standards.

Unfortunately, most people have a very narrow view of life and limited understanding

of reality; therefore, they find it very difficult to be happy all the time because

everyone believes he or she can only be happy if  they get what they want. They make

    happiness conditional.

Question: When I was growing up, I heard phrases such as

“be happy with what you got” and “there is always

something to be thankful for” so I’m acquainted with theidea of contentment. However, in practice, it is quite

difficult to be content or be satisfied with everything in

    life. Why is that?

It appears to be difficult because you think happiness is

outside of you; therefore, you keep looking for it elsewhere. Some people believe by

having a lot of stuff, it will fulfill their emotional needs, which would make them feel

satisfied. Now, the stuff is exciting at first because it’s new, but after awhile your mind

gets used to the stuff so it doesn’t work in the long run. You might solve this problemby getting other new stuff. Of course, you will run into the same problem againbecause after awhile the new stuff becomes old stuff; thus, happiness is quite difficult

to maintain since it depends on acquiring something outside of you. You continually

have to keep buying new things in order to make yourself feel happy.

When you look at this situation, you may think the stuff is the problem. Actually, there

is nothing wrong with having stuff. The misunderstanding is you think the stuff or

other people will make you happy. At first this appears to be true because the stuff or

people are meeting your expectations or desires; thus, you feel good about them.

     Things are going according to what you want. However, nothing is constant in life;

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    12/126

things change, and the stuff gets old or doesn’t work. People start to complain or

make negative comments about you. Unpleasant situations occur in daily life and not

at all going your way. Now, you may start to feel stressed out and blame those things

(objects, people or situations) for making you feel unhappy. In order for you to feelgood once again, you would try to change those things or perhaps, you would try to

avoid them. Sometimes, you can do it, but many times you cannot control all thosefactors, which are outside of you. When you’re unable to make it meet your needs,

    wants or expectations, it then creates the feeling of frustration. Conditional happiness;

therefore, always has its downsides because things do not always go as planned.

Question: So, if the problem is not out there (things,

people or situations), then it must be inside of us? Is

    that what you’re saying?

It’s not so much a problem, but it’s the misunderstanding

that’s happening in consciousness, which creates the

problem. The mind is seeing life through a very narrow lens

and only believes in conditional happiness. It sees no other options or possibilities. As

    the result, these limiting beliefs are restricting us and creating negative reactions;

hence, it prevents us from experiencing our natural state of unconditional happiness.

Question: If that’s the case, why do we have the misunderstanding?

It has to do with our belief system. If you take a look at the

mental processing of how the mind creates reality, you can

see that it constantly judges everything that comes through its

five senses. Each time the mind judges a person, object or

situation, it creates a positive feeling (pleasure) or a negative

feeling (displeasure) within itself. This creates a fluctuation in

the mind from feeling good to feeling bad. Strangely enough,

it won’t produce a positive emotion every time when it judges because the mind finds

it difficult to like everything. As the result of being judgmental, it creates its

preference of likes and dislikes, which leads the mind to only believe in conditional

happiness. If I like it then I’m happy. If I don’t like it then I cannot be joyful.

Given that you have been judging everything since birth, you have created certain

beliefs about yourself, others and the world. These beliefs are based on how you

interpret reality and what you prefer, but in your own mind you wholeheartedly

believe these ideas to be absolutely true, which block you from seeing other

possibilities. You might think other views are wrong or impossible; therefore, you

prefer your own biases, and this is where it gets you in trouble because these biases

    are creating an inflexible mind.

    e emotion when it

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    15/126

It does that because the mind is equipped with the

survival instinct of fight or flight. The mind has to look outfor danger so that its body can survive and not get

injured. The emotion such as fear is produced to makeyou pay attention; thus, you can decide what to do (fight

or flight) in case of being attacked.

Now, not everyone will react negatively to those animals.

As strange as it may sound, some people actually do like

rats, snakes or spiders. However, most people don’t like them due to their own

     judgment.

Comment: So, not everyone will react negatively to the same situation. Everyone

is unique in how they respond.

Yes, absolutely, and that has to do with the individual’s mental conditioning or habits.

For example, the first time you saw a rat and you reacted negatively to it; this response

began to program your mind to associate a negative emotion with the rat image. The

next time you see a rat, your mind will play back the same negative response because

it remembers the data and the emotional reaction (fear) from the last time.

Comment: Therefore, every time we react to something, it creates a program in

our mind of what we think is good or bad in our reality.

That’s correct. Reality is actually neutral until we begin to assign meaning to it. The

good news is we can reprogram our mind to lose the negative patterns and limiting

beliefs. The mind is, in fact, not rigid, but it is quite malleable as neuroscience has

discovered. We can actually teach ourselves to expand our own consciousness and

    tap into infinite possibilities.

Let’s take a look at the terrible day scenario again.

You woke up late, couldn’t find your car keys, got stuck in traffic, got to work late, spilledcoffee on your shirt, the boss criticized your work, got into a car accident on your way

home, and your spouse complained about how careless you were.

As you can see if you reacted negatively to each incident, you would feel rather tense

and your overall conclusion would be “I had a bad day”.

Some of you may think, how can I not react negatively when those things happen to

me? Again, you must understand how the mental processing works and realize that

you can assign a different meaning to reality. You can learn from the difficult

    situations without feeling bad.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    16/126

In actuality, you do have a choice in how you react. Now,

many of you may feel you don’t have a choice but to

react badly because you have gotten used to the processof being judgmental; therefore, whenever you don’t like

something, your mind simply produces the feeling of

    unhappiness.

However, you can begin to break the negative patterns

and expand your consciousness to gain clarity, insightand wisdom by training yourself to look at things

differently from a wider perspective. You can look at

“emotion” as a teaching tool and turn a negative feeling into something insightful

where it can elevate your consciousness. This mind training will empower you and

give you a tremendous freedom to break free from the narrow views of life and

inspire you to be creative; thus, it leads you to discover true happiness.

Comment: So, it’s possible for us to retrain our mind and change how we react to

    difficult situations without feeling distraught.

Absolutely, this is because consciousness gives

meaning to reality; therefore, we can change how it

assigns meaning. By looking at how your mind worksfrom a neutral perspective, you can begin to transcend

your limiting beliefs. The state of neutrality will help you

to be objective and identify the root cause of your

frustration without judging or blaming the

circumstances. When you practice relaxing your mind

and allow yourself to connect to your inner joy, you

will begin to let go of those thoughts, beliefs and

emotions that have been constricting you. This will

lead you to discover your sense of inner peace and gain insight into why you have

been holding on to those limiting ideas, which do not serveyou. When you feel that you no longer need to cling to them,

you will begin to liberate yourself and discover what you have

been seeking for all along, which is unconditional happiness.

     This is your true state.

You can begin to live your life without feeling frustrated and

operate from the state of clarity, inspiration, creativity, pure joy,

insight, wisdom, unconditional love, kindness and compassion.

Reality or circumstance will no longer be a problem because

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    17/126

you don’t assign a negative meaning to it. Instead, you can appreciate and learn from

it; hence, you begin to see everything from a bigger perspective and can come up with

creative solutions to create the life that you love and live in a state of balance.

Relaxing Your Mind into Unconditional Happiness

All your life, you have been collecting data of positive and negative experiences based

on your mental processing. This is done through

judging or comparing. Is this better than that? Is that

equal to this? Is this worse than that? As the result of

judging, you have 3 possibilities of outcome: better

(superior, pleasurable feeling), equal, or worse (inferior, unpleasant feeling).

The mind constantly assigns meaning or value to

reality and creates a belief system out of this judgingprocess. What the mind thinks is good or bad is simply

based on what it likes or dislikes.

Thus, it creates a misconception because the mind thinks it’s the outside factors(people, things or situations) that are causing it to feel happy or feel dissatisfied.

If we go back to the rat example (a rat ran between your legs), the mind thinks that it’sthe rat, which causes the mind to have fear; thus, your

consciousness blames the rat for causing you to be

frightened. In reality, the rat didn’t even know that it was

doing anything to you since it was simply running around. It

might even be afraid of you because you’re so much bigger

in size. You, on the other hand, reacted negatively to the

situation and assigned an unpleasant meaning & feeling to

your reality; therefore, ended up creating a negative belief

about rats. Since you believe this to be true, every time you

see an animal that you don’t like, your mind will always produce a fearful response toit. It doesn’t occur to the mind that it can choose to react differently in a neutral way,

where it doesn’t get stressed out by the situation.

Question: Isn’t that part of our survival instinct of fight or flight, where the mind

produces fear so we can take action in a life threatening situation?

Yes, survival instinct has its place in helping you in a hostile circumstance; however,

you don’t want to get overrun by your own fear. What would help you to deal with life

situation even much better is to have mental clarity. Instead of making decision

based on fear, you can rely on your insight and wisdom so that your mind doesn’t

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    18/126

automatically assign a negative meaning and create a stressful emotion every time

you don’t like something. You want to develop a flexible mind, where you can look at

things from a neutral perspective then you can decide on what is beneficial to do in

that situation without causing harm. The ability to view things from a wider anglecreates more options and enhances your creativity in how you can deal with reality

without feeling dissatisfied. The good news is you can teach yourself  to have a

flexible mind and allow yourself to experience unconditional happiness all the time.

Comment: So, it’s possible for my mind to change

how it reacts and make peace with the things that I

    dislike.

Absolutely, you can do that because the mind ismalleable and teachable; therefore, you can learn to

relax your mind into a neutral state, which allows you

to let go of your negative reactions. As you do that, you

will begin to gain insight into why the mind was

behaving that way without playing the blame game.

This will clear up the misunderstandings and allow youto experience emotional balance.

Question: Now, if everything is neutral in reality until we choose to assign

meaning to it, then why do humans choose to create negativity and do harmfulthings to each other?

Again, it’s a misunderstanding. Through knowing how consciousness works, we can

begin to see how the mind creates its own frustration within itself, which leads it to

do harm and justifies the harm that it does. When the agitated person can allow his or

her mind to let go of the emotional disturbance; naturally, doing harm will make no

sense because that person is now experiencing inner peace. The feeling of

contentment then inspires the mind to choose and do something beneficial because

its motivation is coming from love instead of fear.

Question: If everything is neutral, does “harm” really have meaning in reality?

Can we just choose to do whatever we want and give whatever meaning we wish

    to reality?

Yes, “harm” does have meaning as a gauge. Reality works as a reflective system. Yes,

you can choose to do whatever you wish due to freewill; however, there are

consequences to what you do. You can lie to yourself and choose to do harmful

things and even convince yourself that what you’re doing is wonderful. However,

sooner or later, the harmful acts will catch up to you and you get to experience the

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    19/126

results because reality is a reflective system. This is not a punishment. It’s just the law

of cause and effect or the law of attraction, which is a feedback mechanism (what

you put out is what you get back).

Therefore, you can learn to improve the quality of your consciousness and gain

insight through this reflective system. The more harmonious and coherent you are, the

quicker you can become wise and let go of the misunderstandings and negative

emotions. The more you feel content, the more

you can appreciate everything and attract

positive and magical circumstances into your life.

The more you feel discontent, the more likely

that you will choose to blame and continue to

feel frustrated. Hence, changing your emotionalstate is the key to discovering your true

    happiness.

    Changing Your Emotional State

Since you are the creator and experiencer of your reality, your mind constantly

interacts and interprets what you see, hear, touch, taste and smell. As the result, you

create positive and negative associations with objects, people and situations. These

experiences then create your belief system – what you think is good or bad, right or

wrong, superior or inferior - based on your judgingprocess.

Unfortunately, the mind has created a limiting belief

system and only believes in conditional happiness.

If I get what I want, then I feel happy. If I don’t, then I

cannot feel good about myself; consequently, I feel

    dissatisfied.

Due to this restrictive idea, you don’t even let yourself

consider other possibilities. The suggestion that there is

such thing as unconditional happiness might even sound

absurd to you. With this limiting belief, you simply cut

yourself off  from your true state and keep searching

outside of yourself for answers and fulfillment.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    20/126

Frankly, you will never find true happiness that is

outside of you, because it’s in you, and you have

experienced unconditional happiness from time to

time when you felt at peace, appreciative and joyful forno reason. This is your true state and you can access it

any time just by practicing it. Through mind training,

you can elevate your consciousness and discover your own enlightenment where you

will find life to be amazingly blissful.

The proof is in the experience, and you can begin to feel it by changing the quality of

    your vibration.

Question: If I just focus and look within myself for inner happiness, am I not

    neglecting the outside reality?

You’re not ignoring the outside reality. In fact, the outside reality is just a reflection of

your own mind. This will make more sense to you when you start to practice. When

you change the inner you (your attitudes & beliefs), it will change how you react to

things. When you’re experiencing inner happiness, your behavior will also reflect this

state of joy; thus, it causes you to have a better relationship with everyone and

    everything around you.

Comment: So, inner happiness actually gives us the intelligence of how to dealwith life in a healthier way.

Yes, absolutely and by expanding your mind and opening up your heart, it will inspire

you to be creative where you can solve problem in a harmonious manner.

I look forward to the meditation training.

     Joyful Meditation

There is nothing special or mystical about meditation. It is simply a process of

allowing, relaxing, forgiving and letting go.Unfortunately, through our human experiences we have

collected many misunderstandings, limiting beliefs and

negative emotions along the way based on our judging

process. The good news is we can change all that and

improve the quality of our mind through meditation and

mindfulness practice. However, to enjoy the benefits ofmeditation, you have to practice it consistently. When

you do it often, you will become skillful at uplifting your own energy and find that

your mind is in a state of clarity all the time.

Science now has evidence that people who meditate regularly are mentally and

physically healthier. Meditation works because it relaxes the body as well as recharges

our mental energy by releasing tension and guiding the mind into a natural state of

     joy.

There are several ways or methods to practicing meditation. The methods are not the

meditation themselves. The actual meditation is the awareness or the mindfulness of

the thinking and letting go of the thoughts. You become a neutral observer of your

own mind; thus, you’re not caught up in it. As an observer, you are simply aware ofthe movement of your consciousness (thinking and feeling) without judging, reacting,

labeling, or interpreting it. Slowly, the fluctuation in the mind begins to dissipate, and

this allows your mind to become still and totally relaxed. It gives you an opportunity

to experience your natural state without the mental noise or chatter. You get to

experience deep inner peace and mental clarity.

As we explained earlier, the mind tends to fluctuate from feeling good (pleasure) to

feeling bad (displeasure) due to its judging process. Another fluctuation that occurs

within consciousness has to do with “time” where the mind thinks of the past or

future. The past is just memories while the future is a projection of what mighthappen.

As you can see from the picture on the right,

the mind is being restless as it swings up

(pleasure) and down (displeasure) and also

moves from left (past) to right (future).

Therefore, in meditation we learn to let go of

the fluctuation and relax our way into the

center, where the mind is being at peace withitself.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    22/126

The key to meditation is to enjoy the present moment of now without judging. To

get to this neutral or natural state, we need to have something for the mind to focus

on. This is necessary because the mind has the tendency to wander off in different

directions (thinking of this and that). To experience inner peace, you just relax andfocus your attention on one thing. The easiest way is to just observe on your own

breathing by simply noticing the breath going in and out. The act of noticing helps

you to focus on the now and be with the present moment. When you are in the now, there are no worries because your consciousness is not fluctuating with your thought

or emotion as you continue to relax and remain neutral.

    How to Breathe Properly

Most of us are used to breathing from the chest. However, this is not the most efficientway to breathe. It’s actually better to breathe from your diaphragm or your stomach

because it gives you a better circulation and helps you to feel more energized. Placeyour hand on your stomach. As you inhale, push your stomach out and feel your

stomach expand. As you exhale, your stomach goes back in. Make it a habit to breathe

from your abdomen and you will feel calmer.

    Sitting Meditation

Find a quiet environment. Sit comfortably in a chair with your back straight and put

your hands on your lap. Breathe in deeply through your stomach and breathe outslowly through your mouth a few times to relax your body. Once you’re relaxed, close

your eyes (continue to breathe from your stomach) and simply pay

attention to your breathing. Just notice the breath going in and out

of your stomach or notice the rising and falling of your abdomen. By

noticing and relaxing, the mind is able to keep focus on the present

moment and become alert. Should a thought arise, just pull your

attention back  to the noticing of the breath. Breathe fully from your

stomach, relax and enjoy noticing the movement of your breath.

Feel the joy that arises in your mind while you're being at peace

    with yourself.

Should your mind get distracted, you can use a reminding technique (see below).

Don’t judge or get involved with the thoughts. Just let them disappear by pulling

your focus back to the present moment (notice the abdominal breathing). The more

you meditate, the more skillful you become at allowing your mind to be at peace.

    The Reminding Technique (Non-Judging Practice)

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    23/126

Since the mind is so quick  to judge and wants to fluctuate (it gets caught up in its own

thinking), we use this technique to help the mind come back to the present moment

when we’re interacting with our 5 senses.

When you see something, mentally tell yourself “eyes” so you’re aware that it’s just

the function of the eyes. Then pull your focus back  to noticing your abdominal

    breathing.

When you hear something, mentally tell yourself “ears" so you're aware that it's just

the function of the ears. Then pull your attention back  to noticing your abdominal

    breathing.

When you smell something, mentally tell yourself “nose" so you're aware that it's just

the function of the nose. Then pull your focus back  to noticing your abdominal

    breathing.

When you taste something, mentally tell yourself “tongue or mouth” so you're

aware that it's just the function of the tongue or mouth. Then pull your attention back

    to noticing your abdominal breathing.

When you feel something on your body, mentally tell yourself “skin or body” so

you're aware that it's just the function of the sensory cells. Then pull your focus back

    to your abdominal breathing.

By doing this exercise, it temporarily interrupts the mind from its  judging process so

it can stay longer in the present moment. At the same time we are creating awareness

and noticing what is going on in the mind without getting caught up in the thoughts

so we can remain as a neutral observer and let ourselves

relax and be at peace in the present.

Caution: When you do this exercise, make sure you’re

not harming yourself in any way. If something bad is

happening to you, you must tend to it and keep yourself

safe from harm (use common sense).

    Walking Meditation

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    24/126

Walk normally as you do while being aware of your breath. If you find it difficult to

observe your abdominal breathing while walking, you can watch or feel the

movement of your body as the focus point. Should a thought arise, just pull your

attention back  to noticing the movement of your body(present moment). You can also use the reminding technique

as well to help you stay in the now.

    Standing or Lying Down Meditation

You can meditate by standing or lying down on the floor. Use

your abdominal breathing as the focus point while you’re in

either position. Enjoy breathing and relax.

    Visualization

Imagine a loving white light that glows in all directions. Imagine your body is filled

with this white light. You’re pure light. Stay in this loving white light and feel the  joy

that arises in your mind while you're being at peace with yourself.

Using a Spot between your Eyebrows

Focus on the area between your eyebrows and use it as your focus point. Relax and

just be with this one point and feel the joy that arises in your mind while you're beingat peace with the present moment.

It doesn't matter what method you use. Find the one that you're

comfortable with and practice often. You will always get some

kind of benefit as you meditate, relax and revive your energy. The

more you practice, the more skillful you will be at allowing,

relaxing, forgiving and letting go. As the result, you'll find yourself

enjoying and being in the present all the time (state of clarity).

Question: What if I can’t stop thinking while I meditate?

Thinking is allowed, and when you notice it, you simply shift your

focus back to the present moment (back to neutral such asnoticing your abdominal breathing). It doesn’t mean you’re

encouraging your mind to think and be all over the place while youpractice. You want to remain neutral and just observe. It’s as if

you’re observing your mind like you are observing another person

    without judgment.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    25/126

Question: This state of neutrality helps the mind to let go of its thoughts and

    fluctuation?

Yes, because neutrality is a relaxing state, and the fluctuation (thought) will go awayby itself when you don’t dwell upon it or latch onto the thought.

For example, while you’re meditating, your mind starts to think about what you’regoing to do tomorrow. If you start to dwell upon this

thought, the mind will think of all sorts of things;therefore, it creates a fluctuation as it jumps from one

thought to another. The key then is to recognize what is

happening and pull your attention back to something

neutral such as noticing your breath or observing your

thought without judging, interpreting, labeling or reacting

to it. When you can remain neutral, you don’t get

disturbed by whatever comes up in consciousness. You simply are allowing and

relaxing. You are not fighting with your thoughts or try to control them. Let each

thought disappear by itself, and it will because you’re not feeding your energy into the

thought, but allowing your energy to relax by being a neutral observer.

People who suffer from worry and anxiety are unable to let go of their stressful

thoughts. They are so caught up and identified with their “thoughts” that they think

the “thoughts” are them. This is a big misunderstanding because your thoughts arenot you. You are the one who can observe and can choose how

to react to your thoughts. As you practice being a neutral

observer of your own mind, you will begin to gain insight and

realize that you’re not a victim to your own fears or someone

else’s, but have the ability to let go of the negative reactions,

unbeneficial thoughts and stressful emotions, which are

causing you to be out of alignment. Therefore, you can always

give yourself the permission to make peace with these

    distractions.

     This practice will help you to clear your mind and allow you to feel good at anytime;

therefore, you can get back into the state of balance.

Question: Does the mind go blank when you practice this?

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    26/126

No, the mind actually becomes more aware of itself. Yet at the same time, it’s able to

relax and stay in the state of neutrality or inner peace. The mind is experiencing and

enjoying the present moment as is (acceptance without resistance) because it’s full

    of appreciation and gratitude.

Question: It’s very neutral and yet it feels good. How does this neutral state lead

    the mind into gaining insight?

The neutral state allows the mind to have clarity because it’s not being caught up in a

particular thought. It clears your slate and gives your mind a sense of liberation.

Because it’s not fluctuating or being pulled into a particular direction, the mind feels

free to expand and look at things differently from a wider

perception. It’s like having a bird’s eye view. The ability to beneutral breaks up the negative thoughts and stressful

emotional patterns in consciousness and allows your mind

to gain insight of why it was behaving that way without

justifying, blaming or judging. Once it sees that the root

cause is really coming from its own fears and

misunderstandings, it no longer makes sense to the mind to

react negatively, but chooses to respond to the situation

from the state of clarity (acceptance without doing harm),

forgiveness (letting go) and unconditional love where it can feel good about itself.

For example, there is a common problem for the mind where it feels it doesn’t have

enough. Now you may think that rich people are free from this problem, but it’s not

true. If you observe people, who are financially rich, they still work to earn more

money even though they have more than enough; thus, the “feeling of lack” is a

    common problem for everyone.

The problem appears to be material things or money, but it isn’t. The problem is

discontentment. Here the mind relies on conditional happiness – one assumes more

money means one can buy more pleasures. However, the mind gets used to whateveramount of money that it has; therefore, the level of

happiness actually doesn’t increase after you havemade a certain amount. The reason that your

happiness doesn’t expand with more money isbecause you keep looking for happiness that is

outside of you. The conditional happiness or

temporary pleasure can only last for a little while, and

once the pleasure is had, it disappears. After it’s gone,

you find yourself back into your own state of mind, which still lacks contentment.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    27/126

Most people will try to solve this problem by pursuing more pleasures, thinking that

they will find true happiness out there.

Now there is nothing wrong with having pleasures except unconditional happiness isnot outside of you. It’s in your state of being; therefore, the solution lies within where

you learn to connect to this relaxing state of  inner peace and begin to expand your

mind to experience the infinity of pure joy. This is where

you discover the feeling of contentment. It’s the feeling

of liberation and you realize that you are whole &

complete and do not lack anything because you are not

judging yourself or comparing yourself to others. You’re

enjoying the present moment as is because it’s filled with

clarity, levity and lightness; hence, you can appreciateyourself, others and everything around you without the

need to find fault or criticize what is wrong with reality.

Now, when the mind is feeling like this, it looks at the

money problem differently. It no longer blames the

difficulty on “not having enough,” but realizes that it can

be happy anytime with or without money. Money is

simply a tool, but it’s not happiness itself. With this new

awareness, the mind changes its relationship with money

and doesn’t depend on money to be happy. It simply looksat money as a game. To make more of it, you simply help

others through work or provide excellent services, where

people are more than happy to pay you because you’re

    creating benefits for your clients.

Once you have contentment, your motivation begins to shift

from worry, fear and self-doubt to inspiration, creativity

and confidence. Here the mind does everything from the

state of joy so life becomes much more fun because your

consciousness has transformed its beliefs and attitudes. As the result, you are able to

perceive reality from a new angle, where you don’t react with negativity, but

appreciate the adventures that life has to offer.

Comment: The key to true happiness is to discover it within oneself.

Yes, absolutely. Once you begin to practice it, you will know it for yourself, and other

people will notice “the joy” in you because you will radiate your inner happiness. You

    28/126

will find yourself smiling and laughing more as well as being at ease in your daily

living. You will flow with life as you let go of resistance (being judgmental) and live in

    a state of clarity.

Question: I’m aware that I need to let go of self-judgment, but what about other

people, who are judging me? What can I do about those people?

Again, this problem ties to conditional happiness. You can only feel good when

people praise you or say something positive about you, but you feel bad when they

    criticize, blame or judge you.

If your happiness is dependent on other people’s opinions, then your emotion will

always fluctuate from feeling elated to feelingdeflated since people will not always praise you,

and there will always be someone who will say

something negative about you regardless if

you’re a good person or not.

If you allow their opinions to affect you adversely,

then you’re playing the role of a victim.

You must realize that you always have the power to change how you feel. You’re in

charge of your own emotion. If you believe you cannot, then you’re choosing to feelpowerless. The question then becomes why do you choose to limit yourself? You

have many choices of feeling to choose from in this present moment. Yet, you choose

to be offended and unhappy due to the outside circumstances.

Comment: Well, it’s their negative comments, which are causing me to feel bad.

That’s the misunderstanding. It’s not their comments, but it’s how you react to their

comments. Your negative reaction is producing a stressful emotion in response to the

situation; thus, the feeling of being offended (reaction) is making you feel bad. Due to

the misunderstanding, it appears as though those people (outside factors) are the

cause of your irritation, but when you look within, you can see that your mind is

actually producing the feeling of unhappiness within itself.

In reality, it’s very difficult to prevent people from making

negative remarks so it’s useless in trying to have everyone

saying positive things about you. If you can allow people to

have their opinions, whether it’s positive or negative, then you

    won’t feel offended.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    29/126

Recognize that the ability to feel good lies within you, and it’s independent of

circumstances. As you practice being a neutral observer of your own mind and let go

of whatever comes up in your consciousness, you’ll begin to realize that you can let

go of anything – just by relaxing and staying in a neutral state. You can alwayschange how you respond to a situation because you have a flexible mind. The skills of

letting go and forgiveness give you a tremendous power in the present moment

because you can allow yourself to feel good no matter what people say to you

because you don’t take it personally.

Comment: But I feel like I’m losing if I have to take their negative comments

without saying anything back to them.

You are not losing by choosing to forgive and let go. You’re actually winning because you’re maintaining your state of joy regardless of their remarks. If you

choose to react negatively and feel hurt then you have given away your power. You let

their comments dictate how you feel; therefore, your happiness is at the mercy of

someone else’s opinions. If you choose to retaliate and say something negative then

    you’re getting involved in conflict.

Comment: So if I let their comments roll off me, then it

won’t affect how I feel, but if I take it personally, then it

    would make me feel bad.

Yes, that’s correct. When you meditate and practice letting

go often, you will find it easy to forgive and not get

caught up in disharmony. The practice will lead you to

    clarity where it allows you to gain insight and wisdom;

thus, you know how to deal with negative people wisely and still maintain your

    unconditional happiness.

Comment: I won’t feel like I’m losing because I’m at peace with myself and happy

with who I am. I’m not letting other people or

    circumstances dictate how I feel.

Yes, you got it! Once you have contentment and feel at ease

then you’re in the flow. You can always rely on your inner

peace to feel good in any situation without getting into an

argument. You can create a win-win situation for yourself and

others because you know how to be in harmony.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    30/126

Question: I’m curious. Why do people say negative things about each other or

    put each other down?

This has to do with how we interpret reality. When you’re talking to each other, eachperson has to interpret the information that’s coming through their six senses. A

person can easily misinterpret what the other person is saying; therefore, he or she

may think the other person is saying something negative about him or her, but it’s

really just a misunderstanding in communication. That is one scenario.

Now, when people are intentionally saying negative things

about each other in an argument, each person is trying to

win and feel superior over one another. This has to do with

being judgmental and being addicted to conditionalhappiness. The mind is always judging and comparing. Am

I better or worse? If you think you’re better than the otherperson (whomever you’re comparing yourself to) then you

feel good about yourself. If you think you’re worse (not as good as the other person),

then you feel inferior. Since the mind associates “being better” with feeling good, it

will try to win over the other person by saying negative things to put the other person

down. In doing so, it makes the mind feel superior and justified in being right. It can

only feel good (conditional happiness) when it wins, but this achievement of feeling

good is done at the other person’s expense. Thus, it creates conflict, a win-lose

    situation.

Another reason why a person likes to express negativity is because that person is full

of frustration, fear and discontentment. Since this person doesn’t know how to let

go of the emotional stress, he or she will project or blame his or her anger on

    someone else.

Comment: I see. So if people can let go of their stress in the first place, they

wouldn’t have the need to argue or get into conflict.

Yes and the practice of letting go (relaxing the mind and being in a neutral state) will

help tremendously because it allows people to discover joy and contentment within

themselves. Instead of needing to win and dominate, they will express unconditional

love, appreciation and gratitude where people can have a discussion based on

clarity; therefore, able to share insight & wisdom with one another.

Question: In reality, can we really let go of judging altogether? How can we make

a decision without comparing or judging at all?

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    31/126

Actually, we don’t lose the ability to judge or compare by practicing meditation or

letting go. When the mind is not caught up in a particular thought, it can begin to

choose and make a decision from a neutral state, which allows you to look at things

from a bigger perspective as opposed to viewing things from the narrow angle basedon worry, fear or arrogance. You can actually make better

decisions when your mind is clear and free from biases

because it allows you to see all the beneficial options.

Being non-judgmental is about letting go of the need to be

superior or inferior. If you’re addicted to being superior

then you will always try to control and manipulate others

whereas if you’re addicted to being inferior then you’rechoosing to be a victim. In either case, it causes your mind to be imbalanced. Thus, the

practice of letting go helps you to get back into alignment with what you truly are. This is where you begin to feel amazingly happy for no

reason because your mind is not fluctuating up or down,

but centering and relaxing itself into inner peace.

Comment: So, we can always rely on mental clarity,

insight and wisdom to make a decision.

Yes. Thus, it’s very valuable for you to practice because it will improve the quality of

your mind tremendously and expand your outlook on life. Here are some moremethods of how to access astounding clarity from your pure consciousness.

    Meditation on Unconditional Love

Use your imagination to feel it. Think of love, not romantic love, but love that is

unconditional. This love doesn’t fluctuate up or down due to circumstances, but it

expands and engulfs you with pure joy. It accepts you as you are, and you are this

unconditional love. There is no separation between you and this pure energy of

lovingness. You are one with it. Feel the warmth and bathe your whole body in this

amazing energy. Feel the tingling sensation of ecstasy and the contentment of yourheart. Stay with this feeling of infinite joy.

    Meditation on Gratitude

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    32/126

Make a list of people, things and situations that you appreciate in your life. Write down10 to 20 items (the more the better). When you look at the list, it makes you feel

thankful and happy. Now, go deeper into these feelings ofthankfulness, appreciation & gratitude and really take a

deep breath then breathe in these wonderful feelings.Focus on how grateful you feel in your heart and keep

breathing in these feelings of joy.

    Meditate in Nature

Find a park that has many trees. You can sit under a tree and take a look at the

beautiful nature surrounding you. Appreciate this exquisite and peaceful moment.

Trees are great example of being non-judgmental. They simply grow, give us oxygen,

remove pollution from the air, provide a home for wildlife, control erosion and runoff,

provide shade, and offer so many other benefits.

Let yourself get inspired by the trees. Sit in silence

and appreciate their existence. Feel relax and be

non-judgmental like the trees. Expand the feeling of

gratitude by appreciating ALL THINGS in existence.

Everything has its place, and the world is perfect as it

is. Access the feeling of acceptance and you will findcontentment when you offer no resistance to inner

    peace.

Question: Is there a right way or wrong way to meditate?

There are so many different ways to meditate. Don’t think of it as being right or

wrong, but practice what works for you. All the different methods are useful if they

help you to experience your natural state such as:

    1.   They lead your mind into the state of relaxation (neutrality) and your mind isalert.

    2.  You feel recharged, renewed and expanded.

    3.  It clears your mind, and you’re able to let go of negative emotions.

    4.  As the result of letting go, you feel liberated, joyful, happy and content.

    5.  You gain insight into how your mind works and discover why you have been

holding on to your negative emotions and limiting beliefs.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    33/126

    6.   Through your discovery and understanding you shift and expand your

awareness; thus, you begin to change how you react to things.

    7.  You no longer react negatively when you encounter a problem, but appreciate

the opportunity to learn and solve it with clarity. You are not addicted todrama and conflict.

    8.  You feel at ease with yourself and others because you’re non-judgmental. You

don’t feel superior or inferior, but are in a state of balance.

    9.  You relax your way into unconditional happiness. You find yourself being

joyful all the time for no reason. Your happiness is independent from

    circumstances.

    10. Your mind is blissful in its natural state. You feel creative, inspired,

appreciative, compassionate, kind and loving. You are unconditional love

    and happiness itself.

If your practice leads you to experience the things we have mentioned above, then

you’re on your way to freedom where you allow yourself to tap into your own infinite

    potential.

What if we have difficulties in our practice?

Yes, difficulties can arise due to the misunderstandings of reality, limiting beliefs and

habits; thus, they can cause the mind to put up “resistance” to

    inner peace.

    Here are some impeding factors:

Being Judgmental – During meditation, your mind wants to

judge or compare. This creates a fluctuation in consciousness -

    up/down, like/dislike, pleasure/displeasure, etc.

Controlling – Your mind wants to control thought and emotion.

The need to control creates a disturbance in consciousness.

Thinking that meditation is difficult or boring – Here the mind is judging and

putting up resistance to doing meditation. It wants to stop itself from doing it because

it doesn’t like being still and wants to fluctuate (a monkey mind).

Rationalization – Your mind tries to intellectualize what is happening while you

meditate. Again, this will create a mental disturbance and not allowing your mind to

rest. The mind might say it has no time to meditate; therefore, it doesn’t allow itself to

relax and keeps itself occupied with its thoughts and fluctuation.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    34/126

Complaint/Criticism/Not Good Enough – Your mind

keeps judging what is happening in the present

moment and produces the feeling of dislike as the

response. It gets caught up in its own negative reaction.

Self-doubt – Your mind questions the validity of what

    you are doing.

Many thoughts and feelings such as these can arise while you meditate; therefore,

they put up resistance and not allowing your mind to experience inner peace. All you

have to do is to be aware of them. Step back into a

neutral state (pull your focus into the present moment

such as noticing your breath). Be a neutral observer of

your mind without judging, reacting, labeling or

interpreting so you’re not getting pulled by the

resistance. As you remain neutral (relax), these thoughts

will go away by themselves because you’re not latching

onto them; thus, you allow yourself to let go of

    whatever comes up in consciousness.

Question: Why does the mind resist inner peace? Where do these resisting

    thoughts come from?

They come from fear. Since you have been interacting with reality since birth, your

    mind has produced many thoughts, reactions and emotions;

and these data are embedded in your memory. Consequently,

the data produce your “sense of self ” of who you think you are,

and the mind attaches tightly to its identity such as these are

“my thoughts”, “my ideas” and “my beliefs”.

When you meditate, you are asking your mind to be neutral

and let go of your thoughts and reactions. The mind finds this

challenging because normally it goes along with whatever it’s

thinking of; thus, the idea of being impartial causes it to resist. The mind is afraid that

if it does let go, then it would lose its sense of self of who it is. Who am I if I have no

thought or if my thought is not me? This is where the resistance comes from. It’s the

    fear of losing its identity.

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    35/126

Of course, this isn’t true and the fear is unfounded. What you’re letting go of are your

negative reactions, stressful emotions and limiting beliefs. Once your mind relaxes and

stays centered in the state of balance (neutrality), your consciousness actually

expands, and you discover your true nature as “pure  joy & unconditionalhappiness.”

Comment: So we are clearing the negative patterns of our identity and still keep

    the positive aspects of ourselves.

Yes, absolutely. You don’t lose your positive qualities such as

    unconditional love, kindness, compassion, gratitude,

appreciation, joy, inspiration and creativity. The practice

    actually enhances these attributes.

Question: What if people believe they cannot let go?

If they believe they cannot then they will not let go because

they’re holding on to their fears and limitations. To overcome

this problem, they must open up their hearts and are willing to

look at things differently so that they can allow themselves to

experience other possibilities. Once they choose to go within

and discover the cause of their own fear, it would naturally dissolve and this

breakthrough will unravel all their constricting thoughts, ideas, beliefs and negativeemotions; thus, it will propel their minds into freedom where they finally get to

    experience true happiness.

Comment: I see. If people are willing to face their own fears and discover the root

cause of what is really holding them back, it would allow them to let go of the

    misunderstandings.

Yes, because they allow the light (clarity) to come through and remove the darkness

    (fear) from their consciousness.

Question: How should we view other people, difficult situations and challenges

    in life?

They are scenarios. They exist in your reality so you can learn and evolve as you

interact with them; therefore, you should appreciate all the different people and

circumstances. Even though they may seem difficult, they actually are contributing to

your spiritual growth because when you face these challenges, you get the

opportunity to gain knowledge and expand your intelligence. What will help is to

practice gratitude so that you can see the value of adversity, and through

Question: Can we pretend to be happy or act happy to attract positive situations

    to ourselves?

You may be able to put up a mirage in front of other

people and act joyful for awhile, but when you’re alone by

yourself, you know that you’re being disingenuous

because you aren’t truly happy. In order for you to feel

good, you would still rely on conditional happiness.

Question: Is there something wrong with conditional

happiness? I mean feeling good is feeling good, isn’t it?

It doesn’t matter how you get there.

Conditional happiness keeps you imbalanced. You’re happy in one moment (getting

what you want) and unhappy in the next (not getting what you desire). You can never

quite find the feeling of contentment.

If you think it doesn’t matter how you achieve the feeling of happiness, then you can

fool yourself into doing harm and being unwise. If you think you can feel good by

abusing or taking advantage of others or hurting yourself, then your mind is

     justifying doing harm.

There are consequences to what you do. Reality is a reflective system. This is not a

punishment, but it reflects back your state of mind (quality of your consciousness).

Therefore, the key to true happiness lies in clarity, inner peace, insight and wisdom.

Once you begin to practice meditation (letting go), you will realize that it’s easy to feel

good as you relax your way into unconditional happiness. The state of neutrality will

take you deeper into experiencing a new height of infinite bliss because your mind is

freeing itself from its own limitations and narrow views; thus, allowing your

    consciousness to expand.

Comment: But I don’t see how I can attract the things I want into my life by

remaining in the state of neutrality.

The neutral state actually works because it relaxes and clears your

mind so you can begin to see things from a bigger perspective. This

will lead you into a state of inspiration and creativity. To attract the

things you want, you set intention of what you desire, open your

mind up to infinite possibilities and allow opportunities to come

to you. As you go about your day, you stay in the state of

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    38/126

contentment and radiate your inner happiness. Interact with everyone and

everything from your state of joy. Be kind and be helpful to others. Follow up with

actions so you’re aligning what you’re doing to your intention. Be open, receptive

and flexible to how opportunities come to you. Do not be rigid because you will getdisappointed when it’s not happening exactly like the way you want. The mental

rigidity comes from the need to control and having the need to be right. Let go of

both and allow your mind to relax, flow, be inspired and enjoy every present moment.

This sense of freedom will allow you to attract wonderful opportunities and choose

    your adventure based on wisdom.

Comment: I see. We attract people or things that are similar to the quality of our

consciousness. If I can relax my inner being and work from the state of joy, I will

begin to attract the opportunities that I ‘m interested in.

Yes, you got it! You’re creating a win-win situation for yourself. Once you’re

experiencing contentment and unconditional happiness within, you have already

won. You’re not chasing happiness or success because you realize you already are

happy and successful at being you (self-acceptance); therefore, life becomes a

beautiful journey that keeps unfolding. You keep learning and attracting great

opportunities just for the fun of it and share your happiness, inspiration and creativity

with everyone you meet. You are not seeking wealth because you lack something, but

you realize you’re already full of riches when your happiness is independent of

circumstances. You can have the material wealth as well if you wish just by working tohelp others.

Comment: Wow! That would be something if one can always feel incredibly

happy no matter what happens in life.

Yes, you can be that happy all the time because you can appreciate everything and

let go of your negative emotions. You can begin to see your life from the viewpoint of

unconditional love instead of seeing it from the limiting

    perspective of conditional happiness.

Comment: I still find it difficult to let go of my worries and

    fears.

Let your negative emotion be a teaching tool. Don’t hate your

stressful feelings. When you feel unhappy, worried or afraid, let

that be a signal to you as an opportunity to balance yourself.

The meditation practice will help you in this regard. As you

practice letting go and clearing your mind daily, you’ll

become skillful at experiencing inner peace and changing the

  • 8/19/2019 There is Only Happiness

    39/126

quality of your consciousness. The worries and fears won’t be a problem because you

know how to deal with them as you know how to loosen your mind and gain insight

into why you’re experiencing these thoughts and emotions. As you discover the cause

through clarity, you will find yourself in a state of balance and naturally drop thenegativity since it won’t make sense for you to cling on to the worries and fears, but

    see the solutions from within.

Comment: So I can turn anything into a positive experience.

Absolutely, you can always learn something from a difficult situation or negative

emotion. The neutral state is your ally because it reminds you not to be so serious,

which brings levity into how you perceive reality and that

will lighten your heart & mind. Once your consciousnessstarts to relax, you can easily let go of your stress and look at

the circumstance from a new angle, where you can

appreciate the problem. Once you can be grateful, it’s no

longer troublesome, but you’re glad that you had the

challenging situation because it brought you insight and

enhanced your intelligence. Your negative experience can turn out to be positive

    after all.

    Laughter Yoga

Speaking of levity, laughter is a great way to relax your mind and let go of tension. You

can watch comedy to experience laughter or you canpractice laughing directly by doing a laughter yoga

exercise. First, you do a fake laugh (ha ha ha, he, he, he,ho, ho, ho). Initially, this may not seem funny, but if you

keep doing it, it will turn out to be a real laugh, and you’ll

find yourself laughing continuously. There are many

videos on YouTube that you can view for this exercise

(just search for it under “laughter yoga”) and get yourself

    into levity.

Being serious is a disastrous formula for the mind

because it puts pressure on consciousness. Unfortunately,

our society has taught us to be serious because they thinksuccess comes from this tenacious state. Again, they are

depending on conditional happiness and neglect their

inner state of being (don’t bot
