Mild Oats, a comic chamber-piece, was written in theearly twenties and tells the story of a couple who havecome back to a flat late at night for one thing, and findsomething very different happening. Still Life, is the one-act stage play which became the film Brief Encounter. It tells the story of Alec and Laura – a pleasant,upstanding middle-aged couple both happily married, and their doomed love affair following a chance meetingin a station tea room, played out to the heart-rendingmusic of Rachmaninov.

Michal Bernstein and Colin Stevens perform this two-manmusical theatrical revue. A homage to Michael Flandersand Donald Swann, those two great wits, composers andperformers who were at the heart of 50s and 60s satire.In this revival, Bernstein and Stevens recreate the wit,social comment and musical dexterity of the originalshows. At the same time they take full advantage of themany opportunities for visual humour using, like theirmentors, a minimum of theatrical props. Since its launchin 2000 Bernstein and Stevens have been performing theirshow to packed houses all over the UK.

Forever remembered as the author of ‘The RailwayChildren’. Edith Nesbit was testimony to the maxim thatyou shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. In the privacy ofher home she was the Bohemian duchess, chain-smokingmother to five children, two of whom were actually thoseof her philandering husband’s mistress. This mesmerisingcontrast between the public figure – author of lyricalpoetry and children’s stories – and the private, oftenoutlandish individual makes the story of Edith Nesbitfascinating drama. Edith is brought vividly to the stage by local Pembrokeshire-based actress Eloise Williams.

In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Welshsettlement in Patagonia, the Ffwrnes are screening Patagoniawhich portrays the unlikeliness of the two countries’ ancientconnection. The film follows Gwen and Rhys, a Welsh-speaking couple living in Cardiff, who travel to Patagonia in the hope of reinvigorating their relationship. Meanwhile,elderly Welsh-Argentine woman Cerys travels to Waleswith her young agoraphobic neighbour Alejandro, whereshe discovers her roots and he finds love. (English subtitles).

Get into the Christmas spirit as the Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers welcome the British SinfoniettaOrchestra, Llanelli Choral Society, leading soprano GwawrEdwards and a special appearance by ‘The Reunion Chorus’.Past Hywel Choir members from across the country andabroad reunite the current choristers for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The evening will include festivefavourites such as O Holy Night, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcrackeras well as favourites from film and musicals. The eveningwill include accompaniment by Huw Tregelles Williamsand will be hosted by Jeremy Hywel.
