BEFORE AFTER

WHERE: ENTRY MATERIALS: Poured concrete floor, Benjamin Moore Su-perwhite paint, Lightlab LiteTrax w/Milkwhite glass lens, Leviton light switches and receptacles

INTENTION OF ROOM: Welcome! That is what this space is supposed to say. Leading you down a tunnel (with its own bathroom for those emergency, just-came-in-gotta-go times). The ceiling here is lower than the rest of the apartment so as to prepare you for what is at the end...

BEFORE AFTER

WHERE: GREAT ROOM MATERIALS: Poured concrete floor, Wolf-Gordon Zebrawood wallpaper, Pella windows w/D-Line fittings, window treatment by Distinctive Windows, Lightholder Lighting, frameless glass railing.

INTENTION OF ROOM: This is the shit! 30’ high ceilings, 6 stacked windows, dramatic see-through staircase, the only wall that goes from the 7th to the 8th floor wrapped in Zebrawood wallpaper with the fireplace and plasma screen; This is the entry statement. Used as a living room, sitting room, a lecture room, it is the starting point, the heart if you will, from which the rest of the apartment springs.

BEFORE AFTER

WHERE: MASTER BEDROOM

MATERIALS: Basketball floorboards, Lightlab Litetrax w/milk white glass lens, walnut finnish-plywood platform bed with integrated headboard.

INTENTION OF ROOM: Part of the master suite, we didnt want to put oo much furniture here. Which is why we designed and built the bed as flowing from the light slot which eliminates the need for night tables and lamps. Spare lighting and space make for a peaceful way to go to sleep.

WHERE: MASTER CLOSET MATERIALS: Basketball floorboards, Timorous Beasties Insects wallpaper, Ikea Stolmen Clsoet System, 36” mirror ball, Lightolier lighting.

INTENTION OF ROOM: As if you hadn’t noticed already, we are clothes whores at The Apartment, so the closet had to be as formidable as the outfits which will even-tually make their way here. That is why when you first come in, you scan left, you scan right, you have an idea of the vibe you want to throw...right here, on the wall, press the disco switch.

Now you’re ready to get dressed.

WHERE: ZO’S BEDROOM MATERIALS: Basketball floorboards, Benjamin Moore Su-perwhite paint, Lightlab Litetrax w/milkwhite glass lens, Boffi Ozen Wall Sconce, Haefele and D-Line door handles.

INTENTION OF ROOM: Our son’s room is meant to be a blank canvas for the million toys he will guilt us into buying him. With enough closet space for a child three times his age, he will grow up strong and smart here as he carries encyclopedias around the apartment. Basically, the room is for the Golden Child to express himself in whatever way he sees fit. As long as that expression stays in here of course.

WHERE: HOME THEATER MATERIALS: Benjamin Moore black paint, Woolshire carpet-ing, Jasper Morrison Luxmaster Lighting, Wolf-Gordon Zebrawood wallpaper.

INTENTION OF ROOM: Open to the rest of the space most of the time, closed with sound dampening curtains at movie time, this room is both a great sitting room for drinking games and a DLP, 7.1 THX home theater for...drinking games. Soundproofed in the floor and ceiling, it is the ultimate escape.

WHERE: DINING ROOM MATERIALS: Poured concrete floor, Lightolier and Ingo Mau-rer Johnny B. Good lighting, Creston Controls, JBL Synthesis audio system.

INTENTION OF ROOM: Next to the busy kitchen, we needed a relaxing dining environment, where people around the table would be the most important things in the room. That is why the table is egalitarian and doesn’t let anyone sit at the ends. We are all here for each other.

WHERE: KITCHEN

MATERIALS: Pggenpohl Kitchen with Corian Countertops, Miele Subzero and Viking appliances, Let There Be Neon lighting, Vola faucets.

INTENTION OF ROOM: We cook here. A lot! We wanted to see if we could design and build a no-compromises kitchen. So we studied a cook’s movements in his surroundings, we looked at how one could move as little as pos-sible from activity to activity, how not to drop wa-ter on the floor. And after watching a lot of Iron Chef we ended up with a 24’ long kitchen with 10 burners, 2 dishwashers, 2 ovens, 2 refridgerators as well as trash cans and sinks expertly located. Pray you’re invited to those parties!

WHERE: GARDEN

MATERIALS: Poured concrete planters and seating, Sunlite Gro-lights, digital wallpaper printed by MDC Wallcoverings, Bamboo tree.

INTENTION OF ROOM: The only thing missing in this apartment was gar-den space but, alas, there was no roof or balcony space to be had. So we created our own slice of nature. Large enough to plant flowers, herbs and a tree, yet cozy enough to feel enveloped by green and leisurely read through Anna Karenina. This is also the point of entry if you choose to come in through the 8th floor and how nice it is to come in from a hard day’s work through the garden.

BEFORE AFTER

WHERE: MEZZANINE

MATERIALS: Woolshire carpeting, framless glass railing, Lightolier lighting.

INTENTION OF ROOM: You have reached the highest point in the apart-ment, Congratulations! This secret room was always meant to be a 5th guestroom but through-out the building process, we’ve realized it could be many other things, from a smoking room to a lounge to a diving platform. The bathroom here will serve as the home theater facilities and even contains a shower if the movie room gets too hot.
