Photos: Holi Celebrations at the Asian Centre Public Health Project: (DCC) The Asian Association participated in the Public Health project funded by DCC, to raise the awareness of Hypertension and Stroke. Dr. J Bose kindly volunteered to host the workshop. A number of BME community groups attended on the day. It was for a duration of six months and during the period we held numerous workshops and presentations to raise the awareness. The project is now in its second phase to raise awareness of Diabetes Type 2, which ends on 30 th June. The next phase will cover raising awareness of Dementia. The year began with the Holi celebrations at the Centre. All members attended the event. Holi is an Indian festival to mark the coming of spring!!

Sight Support Derbyshire- Workshop and Presentation - Sight Support Derbyshire visited our Centre to show how they can support our visually impaired members of our community

Luncheon Club:

The Asian Association recently established a social group to meet weekly on Thursday’s at the Centre.

Numerous activities are held during the day. The day start with some light physical exercise conducted by Sanjukta Sahu, who teaches the members basic moves to keep themselves fit.

The Asian Association participated in the Carers event. The new carers website was launched on the day. It was a networking event for all service providers and also a day to pamper our carers.

Celebrating Diversity is also a lottery funded project to bring people of different communities together and, which meets monthly and is led by Sandra Pink, Advice & Project Manager, Links CVS.

This Lottery funded event was organized in collaboration with the professional Music and dance group from Odisha that were travelling to 5 cities in the UK. The Mayor Steve Brunt and Mayoress of Chesterfield inaugurated the event.

Bilingual Buddy Project: The Asian Association is part of the Bilingual Buddy project funded by Big Lottery in partnership with DHA (Direct Help & Advice) to provide a service in crises to members who do not speak English as their first language.

Cooking on a budget:

The Asian Association is part of the Derbyshire County Council - Public Health Healthy Eating project. It is a project funded by DCC and we are the first group to start the project. Helen Moyes from Heart of Derbyshire is our instructor.

The Asian Association welcomes our new members to the association. In the last few months, we have had three new families who have arrived in Chesterfield and have been welcomed into the community:
