Machine Selection From The Industry LeaderRaytech is the oldest and largest manufacturer of bench top mass-finishingequipment worldwide. Our vibratory line is over 30 years old and our magneticline was introduced in 1996. No one has more machines in use or more appli-cations experience than Raytech in vibratory or magnetic machines.

Vibratory Machines are utilized to deburr/finish irregular/ blocky shapes,since the vibrating activity works the media at blind or hidden areas passedover by the slide action of a conventional tumbler. Vibratory machines can oftenprocess more complex part configurations than tumblers and run cleaner withplastic media. Part size is not a problem in a vibratory machine. If the part fitsin the channel and rotates, it will finish.

Magnetic Machines centrifugally finish small and complex non-ferrousparts with fine detail that have areas where conventional medias can’t reach.The fine, small, steel media pins used by CMF machines can clean, smooth,burnish, and impart a uniform surface finish to all parts. Magnetic finishing hasvery short time cycles, in most cases 30 minutes or less.

Oblique, Open End Machines are similar to rotary barrel tumblers. Theyare easy to unload and tumbling action is easily observed; however, longercycle times are required than with rotary. Generally used for cleaning, part-on-part deburring/burnishing, drying, chemical applications and used with small orloose media/abrasives.

Ultrasonic Machines are adept in cleaning intricate and hard to reachspaces.Years of grime and varnish are stripped away by the ultrasonic cleaningaction. The grease and dirt is easily lifted away from parts leaving them ultra-sonic clean.

Finishing SystemsAVT-250The Raytech AVT-250 Fast Finisher will handle a myriad of applications includ-ing deburring, descaling, flash removal, cleaning, polishing, and burnishing. Ithas a capacity of 2.5 cubic feet. When combined with the optional media sep-arator, the system truly offers a portable mass finishing work center that makesit ideally suited to cellular manufacturing. See page 9 for MS-75 details.

Cabinet Construction: 14 gauge formed, reinforced and welded steel; completesound insulation with cover to keep noise level below 80 db.

Tub Construction: Continuous welded tub of 11 gauge steel with one-quarterinch steel angle reinforcements; 80-90 durometer urethane lining of one-halfinch minimum up to one inch in wear areas; 5-inch urethane discharge chute;easily changed 2.5 x 5-inch drain.

Drive System: 1-inch steel shaft with high energy counterweight; heavy dutybearings for continuous use; quick change amplitude; enclosed shaft housing;vibration absorbing, self-aligning belts.

Basic Guidelines For Successful Finishing

1. Acceptable media to part ratio is approximately 70% media to 30% parts.

2. When running conventional medias that require a wet process, be sure to have the correct amount of water and compound. Too much water will hamper the vibratory action thus giving less than desired results, as well as long cycle times.

3. The media and compound should just barely be wet with no standing water. It is recommended to use Raytech’s compound rinsing system to ensure proper dispensing of water and compound.

What Is A Centrifugal Magnetic Finisher?The machine is a direct drive, fan cooled design. Its magnetic diskis made up of many powerful magnets that are precisely placed ina cast disk. The alternating polarity is constantly changing, therebyallowing the media to move freely in a liquid solution that constantlychanges its makeup. This, combined with centrifugal force, allowsfor super quiet and fast time cycles.

Magnetic Finishing presents itself as the pinnacle of methodsto efficiently burnish and polish small non-ferrous metals. Withstainless steel pins as small as .010 in diameter and .250 in length,they are able to work in areas such as undercuts, recesses, slots,etc, where no previous method has been found suitable. Centrifu-gal magnetic finishing is quiet by comparison to many other formsof finishing. On soft non-ferrous metals, the finishing cycle can beas low as 30 minutes. This alone assures faster turnaround timeon parts when compared to any other method. Centrifugal mag-netic tumbling as an automated process addresses the most intri-cate and detailed parts imaginable in finishes where others fail. Itshould be noted that on large, smooth or flat surfaces the finish willappear frosted and a slight buffing or a dry finish is recommended.

Doing so will cause thepins to magnetize, resulting in over-magnetizing of pins,thus lessening their effectiveness.Through use, discoloration (darkening) of the pins is nor-mal. They can be cleaned using a tri-sodium phosphate so-lution. TSP is available at your hardware store.

CAUTION: Be very careful to limit exposure of your eyes to shortwave ultraviolet rays. These rays can “sunburn”the eyes and cause uncomfortable irritation. You should not look into a shortwave lamp when it is turned on. Whenworking near a shortwave lamp, we recommend the wearing of protective glasses.
