Bacchanal Beach J’ouvert#checkin

+he countdown to carnival begins! This will defi-nitely be ample warm up for the line up of events

that Bacchanal Jamaica will be hosting in the days before carnival.

Soca junkies should be heading to Ochi this weekend for what some say is the best part of the carnival season. This staging of Beach J’ouvert will feature Machel Mon-tano HD and Patrice Roberts and so it’s sure to be full of vibes. And with the likes of DJ Bambino, DJ Smoke and Sparkles Productions spinning tunes, you can expect to be getting on bad way after the sun goes down.

Another perk of the event will be some new elements added by the title sponsor, Smirno!. They have prom-ised to make this staging even more exciting than ever with a treasure hunt where patrons can win cash prizes. So those of you who want to jump up with the Bacchanal crew can head to James Bond Beach in Oracabessa on Saturday April 7 to take in ‘more fun. . . more fete. . . more Bacchanal.’

Get tickets from Ammars (King Street, Sovereign and Mall Plaza), Training Camp (Manor Park), Mega Mart (Waterloo Road, Portmore, Montego Bay), L G Ser-vice Station (Constant Spring Road) and General Foods (Ocho Rios).

Admission: $4,000 (pre-sold), $5,000 (gate), $6,500 VIP

What is your typical weekend?Friday nights are normally spent at Scotchies with the fam-ily, where I attempt to keep pace with my 96-year-old grandfather aka Gdadz.

Saturday revolves around watching the footy (football) on TV. I have recently been rediscovering the river flex at Blue Hole and Spanish Bridge located on the White River. The latter has a new 30ft swing that I am determined to conquer next week.

After the guilt subsides from not going to church again, it’s family lunch and then volleyball at Rooms on the Beach.

Do you have a weekend must see/do/eat?Must do would have to be playing vol-leyball on Sunday and trying to relive the glory days.

Must eat, ‘a proper country food’ from Soldiers Restaurant in Pineapple. It’s small but it’s open 7am - 11pm and the break-fast is awesome. Try it this Easter week-end. It’s cheap too!

Must see, hmmm... I guess it would be between a belly full of laughs if I actu-ally spiked the ball over the net, the sev-eral baptisms in shower caps and the hulk Rasta that refuses to be discouraged in his attempt to lyrics Rosey O’Donnell in her G-String.

What has been your best weekend ever?February 17, 2012. I got married to my dream girl Melissa Yap-Chung – simply the best memory ever.

Who are your weekends usually spent with?Family mostly. Friends visiting us or on their way to Mobay and Kingston a!ords us the opportunity to entertain most week-ends. We encourage our friends to avoid their St Ann visas being revoked in exchange for having a bite to eat before the journey in.

What would be your ideal weekend?Dancing with [Melissa] all night on Friday, Chelsea beating Man

U 6-0 on Saturday and everyone who reads this to visit my villa website ochoriosbeachvilla.com on Sunday and book it for Eas-ter weekend. Thanks in advance everyone.

What spot/event/ activity would you recommend for any given weekend?Scotchies, Mykonos Greek Restaurant and John Crow’s Tavern, Evita’s and Ms T’s Kitchen are the notables. The Blue Cantina (tacos) and Calabash Ital Restaurant on James Avenue are hid-den secrets. Jerking at Taj and Express in Taj Mahal are some-thing new as well as Caliente (formerly Coconuts and Baywatch) and the Roxborough Sea Food Restaurant near to the Cool Oa-sis in St Ann’s Bay.

ohn Crow’s Tavern is a must when in Ocho Rios! Besides be-ing in one of the best locations

in town (right on Main Street), which makes it perfect for people-watch-ing, you can relax, eat, drink and also watch sports. They o!er a variety of menu items including sandwich-es, pizzas, hamburgers and cooked food.

Every visit to John Crow’s should warrant an attempt to try something new but the oxtail never disappoints. Served with rice and peas, the dish is perfectly prepared. Always ask for a side of ‘scotchie’ because everyone knows how the pepper can nice up the thing even more! The tavern has a lively atmosphere where you can eat and drink and take it easy, but it is the oxtail that keeps me coming back every time.
