Since The Summit Club began advertising in The Wedded Bliss, the number of

events at our venue has increased substantially. Even with the economy in a down

turn, The Wedded Bliss has been our best source of advertising for the bridal side

of our business.

I appreciate the effort that the magazine staff is continually making to improve the

look and the quality of the magazine. I know this publication is something that we

as East Texans can be proud of.

When we think we have arrived, we quit growing, and without always

seeking to do better, we plateau. This philosophy of business is apparent at

Britian Saye and Bryan McKinney were

married at the Castle on the Lake on

October 9, 2010. Britian is the daughter of Frank

and Evangalan Saye, and Bryan is the son of Kevin

and Kathy McKinney all of Jacksonville. Pastor James

Morris officiated the ceremony.

A special thanks to my mother, Evangalan, my Aunt

Tiajuana, my mother-in-law, Kathy, our special

friends, Tracy, Charlotte, Sue, Sherrie, and Denise.

Our wedding would not have been possible without

your dedication and long hours of work spent on

making our dreams come true. I want to thank our

bridesmaids, groomsmen, fairies, ushers, and wedding

party for being a part of our special day. It would not

have been the same without you.

Bryan and I would like to thank the Castle on the Lake,

Chef Rick Neal, and Rob Gowin for lending us their

staff. Many thanks go to Designs by D’Anne for the

beautiful cakes, Boogie Butt Productions for the great

entertainment, Chef Rick Neal for the fabulous food,

To achieve a vintage look for the wedding of Katy Newton to Hunt Holdridge at The old Parker Place in Hallsville, Texas, on October 9, 2010, more than 150 antique oil lamps of different sizes, shapes and colors were arranged in combinations with old doilies, antique bottles, mason jars, fans, books and fresh flowers throughout the venue and in the table centerpieces. Guests were seated by ushers Tommy Newton and Andy Newton, brothers of the bride, Justin Hawkins and Ford Meazell, friends of the couple. Escorted down the aisle by her father, Katy, the daughter of Tom and Rebecca Newton of Longview, married Hunt, the son of Wayne and Beth Holdridge, also of Longview, in the outdoor gazebo, under an antique chandelier with Judge T. John Ward officiating. Witnessing the ceremony were matron of honor Meredith Hartley, cousin of the bride; bridesmaids, Becky Holden, Tami Summers, Julianna Richard, and Lauren Kattner, friends of the bride; best man Tommie Daniels, grandfather of the groom, Blake Holdridge, brother of the groom, Zack Bussey, Chad Gibson, Chris McDaniel, friends of the groom. The wedding party walked down the aisle to acoustic guitar played by Zach Canter and Josh Hardin.

A fajita buffet prepared by Jackie Warren and John Sapp was served to 150 family and friends. The strawberry cake, decorated with rich cream cheese frosting and fresh cascading orchids, was accompanied by the groom’s favorite dessert, ice cream with sundae toppings. The reception was held on the front lawn under strings of tiny white lights. A photo booth, set up on the front porch of the cabin with a quilt made by the bride’s great grandmother as the backdrop, was where guests left their individual messages for the couple on small antique chalkboards. At the end of the evening, guests lit the way with sparklers as the newlyweds left the reception in a chauffeured 1964 silver Rolls Royce. After a honeymoon in Jamaica, the couple will reside in Houston, Texas.

Typically, friends are the first ones married couples turn to for advice when their marriage is in trouble. Sometimes it can put you in the middle of their struggle, and you won’t always know how to help. Here are five great tips for handling any situation that can arise.

1Just Listen – Simply giving them a listening ear makes a huge difference. It is good for your friend to vent a little and get what they need to off their chest. By talking out loud it might bring more clarity than they think. Talking it out with

a friend is therapeutic, and your silence speaks volumes.

2Don’t Get Involved – It’s easy to give your advice and opinions on their situation. The best advice in this case is none at all. Help your friend work through it by listening, and try not to choose sides or weigh-in on their decisions. It’s best to

steer them in the right direction towards proper help, instead of trying to encourage divorce or separation.

3Give and Get Them Support – You are a great support system for your friend, but you should find other resources to refer them to. One good resource is the VOW Marriage Education Initiative. VOW helps build and maintain strong

marriages by offering marriage education, workshops, and endless resourceful websites.

4Encourage a Solution – Instead of concentrating on what the problems are, help your friend focus on finding the right solution for them. Encourage your friend to do research to find the right program or counselor to talk with, take action,

and get on the right track to a healthy marriage.

5Just Be There – The best way to be supportive is to simply be there! Be available when they need you. Let them know you are there for support, and be willing to listen anytime. And in any situation where there is violence, the best advice

is for their overall safety and well-being.
