I taught the Water Cycle to my 1st grade students using technology. Here is a power point presentation of my lesson.TRANSCRIPT
THE WATER CYCLETECHNOLOGY LESSON
Bridgette Balkman
Objective
At the end of the lesson students will be able to describe how plants and people need,
use, and receive water by creating a picture.
Imagine...
What life would be like without water. What would you drink?
How would we wash our hands or bathe ourselves?
What would happen to all of the plants and tree?
Would the world be very pretty without water?
TechnologyWe used a projector to show this website to the class:
http://www.epa.gov/safewater/kids/flash/flash _watercycle.html
(Sung to the tune of “She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain”)Water travels in a cycle yes it does. (arms go around in a circle)
Water travels in a cycle yes it does.It goes up as evaporation (Hand goes straight up)
Forms clouds of condensation (Hands clap together)Falls down as precipitation (Bring hands down to wiggle imitating
a rainstorm)Yes it does!
The Water Cycle Song
Art Project
Partners at the computers…
2 students at a time were called to work on computers with the website pulled up and they were able to play games and do things on the
website that they couldn’t as a whole class.
Successful? Yes!
• The lesson went very well, I think it was a great integration of
technology
• Students loved being able to see the internet being used in a lesson
and they loved individually being able to visit the website and
play on it.
• The song and artwork were very successful also. I honestly think this is one of the best lessons I have ever
done.
What I could have done better…
• It would have been nice to have laptop and
projector out of students way.
• Unfortunately we had to have kids move
around for this lesson, which change like that
is always a little chaotic but the projector and computer were worth having a little bit of
chaos.
Technology made the lesson!
Technology enhanced the lesson and made it come to life. The website explained how the water cycle works in a way that we as teachers could
have never done.
