Before The War

• America was not respected

• Sent ambassadors

• Built more ships than Britain, the “Ruler of the Seas”

• Americans were taken off boats to join the British Navy

At The Start

• Settling in Canada – driven out by Indians

• British helped the Indians

• 1812 – America started to attack Canada

• Will shut down businesses – many not fought

During the Beginning

• War Hawks wanted war

• “National Pride”

• Army strengthened

• “Peace as we now have it is disgraceful, and war honorable.”

• Did badly at 1st battle

1813

Many victories were won, and the tide of the war changed.

Attack!!

• The British attacked America

• D.C. in flames

• Cannonballed Fort McHenry

• Star Spangled Banner written

End of the War

• The Treaty of Ghent signed

• Louisiana attack by the British

• Sorely wounded British

• “The Era of Good Feelings” started

• Led up to the Civil War
