From the Principal’s Desk ...

Aendance: Target—95%

It is great to see so many year levels this week achieve

our goal!

.

PBL Focus this week:

“I am a posive member of a team!”

Being a posi%ve team member is:

♦ Communica%ng respec(ully

♦ Encouraging and Suppor%ng people to par%cipate

♦ Coopera%ng and Working together

♦ Being fair—ensuring all have the opportunity to

play

♦ Following the rules

♦ Focus on the Posi%ves rather than the Nega%ves.

Have a great week,

Rowie Price

Principal

Welcome to Week 7!

We are over the half-way mark of this term as we con%nue

to commit to our school improvement agenda of improving

the literacy of our students with a specific focus on Reading

and Wri%ng. We will achieve this through our teachers

abili%es to analyse and use data, to both inform their

teaching prac%ces and to assist each and every child to

become a successful learner.

Students are also being encouraged to get on board with

our Home Reading Program by reading for at least 10

minutes every night. Daily reading will assist in all aspects of

learning and students will be rewarded as they reach the

reading session milestones of Bronze, Silver, Gold and

Pla%num. Please remember that we are engaging in the

Premiers Reading Challenge and these reading sessions can

be recorded here also.

I encourage you to visit the town library located at the

Cultural Centre for students to access a range of reading

resources catering to your child’s interest. Mrs Karen Postle

spoke to our students on parade this week highligh%ng a

number of resources that are available to assist

our children to read. I would also encourage

parents to check out our helpful videos on our

Facebook Page to assist your child with Reading.

Highlights of Week 6:

♦ Students commitment to comple%ng assessment tasks

in classes.

♦ Students behaviour and par%cipa%on in the Miles and

District Cross Country event. A special men%on to

Miss Irwin who convened a great carnival and was

acknowledged by her colleagues in the district for its

success.

♦ Students of the week that were recognised for their

posi%ve talk to others and ability to be an effec%ve

team member. I am looking forward to them

modelling these behaviours again this week as part of

our PBL Focus.

♦ Our Prep/Year 1 classes aendance at the Na%onal

Simultaneous Story%me event at the Wandoan

Library. They enjoyed the session immensely.

♦ The Student Council’s successful bake sale last week

raising funds for their Garden Improvement Plan.

Thank you to all parents and staff who made goodies

as well as the students and staff that purchased.

This week saw us welcome four new students to our

school, ICAS Science Compe%%on par%cipa%on, as well as

Mr White accompanying Kodey, Shakayla, Claudia and

Shaylen to Al%tude Day on Monday in Highfields,

Toowoomba. At this day the students were able to meet

other students from a variety of other schools, as well as be

mo%vated in success by a range of guest speakers who

focussed on students making the most of the opportuni%es

presented to them.

INCLUSIVE INSIGHTS

Ms Zackrisen

YEAR 5/6 SCIENCE

ALTITUDE DAY—TOOWOOMBA

In Science students have

been studying natural

disasters and the effects

that these phenomena

have on the natural

landscape and living

things. Year 5/6 students

conducted an experiment

modelling volcanoes in the

school sandpit…...and they

had a blast…..literally.

Mr O’Farrell

On Monday, 28th

May four of our Year 9 students aended Al%tude Day in Toowoomba. Al%tude Day

empowers Year 9 students to be posi%ve leaders within the school and wider community. It gives

them the opportunity to network with students from other schools in the region and be inspired by

young leaders who are doing incredible things in the world. It gives them the confidence to be

themselves, and the framework to turn their passions and goals into reality.

There were three speakers presen%ng on the day. The first was Caitlyn Shadbolt who has followed

her dream to become an Australian pop-country music star. Next to speak was Jackson Auld who

overcame a horrific football injury to work across a wide range of campaigns and ini%a%ves that

enrich the lives of young people. He was eventually awarded Project Future’s Stella Fella Award

which recognises him as a posi%ve role model. Last to speak was Rowie McEvoy who founded a

group of Fitness Business Colleges in Australia and New Zealand which have been listed in BRW

magazine’s list of The Top 100 fastest growing companies in Australia.

All speakers were very inspiring and delivered posi%ve and engaging ideas to our Year 9 students. It

was a big day and by the %me we arrived back in Wandoan we were all exhausted, however the

students came away having had fun and having learned important messages for their futures.
