The ‘WAFFLE’ Issue 8: 24th November 2017
Our vision: We aim to improve the world, one Booyal student at a time, by challenging and
supporting every student to reach their absolute potential in learning and behaviour whilst
encouraging them to demonstrate an enthusiastic ‘can do’ attitude, care for each other,
contribute positively to the wider world, dream big, think ‘outside the box and have a healthy
dose of fun along the way!
Hello everyone,
Term 4 has well and truly whizzed by. It is all systems go around here at the moment,
completing assessments & getting ready for the end of term activities. The countdown is
on!
:
Stalls On Election Day: Election Day is tomorrow, (25th November).
Emma and Jamie will have their Booyal Bunyip Entrepreneur’s stalls,
selling wonderfully handcrafted key rings and feather hat pins.
Both products are selling like hot cakes so get in soon, either to purchase or order.
Keyrings are $3 and most hat pins are $3.50. Both are extremely well made and
would make lovely, affordable Christmas presents.
Stubby coolers and school glasses will also be on sale for the discounted price of
$2:50 each, as well as P&C raffle tickets. The few remaining joke DVDs will be
available for the cost of a donation; they make great Christmas gifts.
High School Induction: Year 6 students will attend high school next
Monday and Tuesday on their orientation program. We wish them all well
and hope they thoroughly enjoy a taste of life in the ‘big school.’ This is a
very exciting time for them and their families. Those six years of primary
school just flew by!

Here is a list of upcoming bits and pieces for your attention. Pleae read.
Our 2017 focus is reading, reading and more reading!
Swimming Payments Due: Thank you to everyone who has already
paid their swimming fee(s). Please ensure that all accounts are
settled no later than the last Tuesday of term, (5th December),
so that Ms Day can finalise the accounts.
Free Treat After Swimming: Please sign and return the attached
form giving permission for your child/ren to have a free
McHappy Meal after their final swimming lesson. Thanks to Mr
Pelusi for organising this treat.
Awards & Graduation Evening: A graduation ceremony will
be held in the undercover tennis courts, like last year, on
Tuesday 5th December, commencing at 6 p.m. The
formalities will be followed by a shared supper. Please bring a plate, if you are able.
School Play: The following evening, Wednesday 6th December, you are
invited to Mrs D’s room to see the children perform a hilarious play
called ‘The Amazing Adventures Of Super Stan.’ They have worked
very hard and whilst (in all honesty) it is not perfect (yet and possibly
won’t be on the night either!) we are sure that you will really enjoy it. Please come
along, support the students and have a good laugh. A free sausage sizzle will be
available beforehand, from 5 p.m. Please let a staff member know if you, family or
friends are coming along.
Students are allowed to stay back after school on that day. We will supervise, feed
and get them in costumes etc. so that we can start by 6:00 p.m.
Visitors: On Wednesday 6th December we will be visited by
the AVA Pet representatives (a vet and council worker) and
Mark from S.E.A.T (spinal injuries awareness). Parents and
younger siblings are most welcome to join us.
Hervey Bay Excursion: …and the fun continues!
On the last Thursday of term we will all travel
to Hervey Bay to visit the water park and
historical village. This will be a free trip with a
Subway lunch provided by the Project Club.
The events the Project Club committee have
organised this year, and which all families have
supported, have raised the funds for this
treat. Well done! Permission forms have been sent home.
Reports & Teacher Meetings: Reports will be sent home in the
last week of school. If you would like an end of year parent-
teacher meeting please contact Mrs Hollier or Mrs D to
organise a mutually convenient time.
Our 2017 focus is reading, reading and more reading!
Picnic Day: Friday 8th December is Picnic Day. This is always a
really enjoyable day, organised by P&C and school staff. Parents
and family members are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
A ventriloquist will perform from 9:30 a.m. His puppets look
extremely cute. The day will be full of games and fun activities,
as well as a free sausage sizzle lunch. More details will follow.
Christmas Decorations: Mrs D’s students will decorate the classroom
next week to get us in the mood for the festive season. This will be
the first time we have really titillated things up since I have been
here so I hope the children get involved and enjoy it. Donations/a
loan of any Christmas decorations would be very much appreciated.
Booklists will be sent home next week and also uploaded onto our website,
in case you misplace them during the holidays.
Spelling Lunch: Congratulations to Term 3’s super spellers!
Danita, Emma, Kaylah & Jessica (Warren) scored 95% or over in
their spelling tests so will be invited for lunch with Mrs Vaughan
and Mrs D, whilst Clinton, Deklyn, Jessica (Mandrek) and Leeroy
earnt themselves a treat of their choice from the bakery by
scoring between 90 – 95%. Well done everyone!
School Leadership Positions: Elections were held today. Thanks
to everyone who nominated and congratulations to our school
leaders to 2018.
School Captain: Mary Vella
Sports Captain: Clinton Warren
Project Club President: Jamie Carter
Project Club Secretary: Mary Vella
Project Club Treasurer: Clinton Warren
Reading Results: Mrs Savage tested reading progress. The results show that our students
are overwhelmingly reading and comprehending above the level expected for their age and
have continued to make improvements this semester. The Daily Rapid Reading program
definitely makes a real difference to every child in every subject. Hopefully, we will be
able to fund this program again next year.
Some recent happenings……
Our 2017 focus is reading, reading and more reading!
- In Week 2 we welcomed Mrs Hollier back from her exciting African adventure.
Everyone enjoyed seeing a variety of photographs and listening to her reliving some
amazing experiences.
- Prep Induction: Next year’s Prep students are already getting their first taste of
school. Mrs Hollier has organised a range of activities to introduce them to their
new friends and school routines.
- It rained ..and rained…and rained some more. The tanks are full.
Maintenance & New Works: The facilities department will install two new tanks near
the tennis courts during the holidays. Thanks to P&C for purchasing one of those
tanks. They will also build, (hopefully by the start of Term 1), an outdoor chess
board outside Mrs D’s room. The bore behind the shop will be repaired. A lot of our
water comes from there and due to damage with the bore and casing there has been
no end of problems in the past year or so. Fingers crossed that this next lot of work
will solve things, once and for all.
Students left: Doc and Delaney left to start a new school. We wished them well.
Sports Coach: Over the past few weeks the children have benefitted from expert
Futsal coaching from Mrs Fiona Stevenson. Thanks to Mr Pelusi for organising the
funding for this. There is some money left over which will be spent on sports
equipment. Fiona will, hopefully, return next year.
Hitting The Right Note: Earlier in the
term, Mary and Danita enjoyed two days
in Bundaberg. They were from one of ten
participating schools at this year's
Intermediate String Workshop, held at
Bundaberg South State School. Whilst
Danita practises regularly at home, she
enjoyed the opportunity to play with over
60 other students. Mary found learning
the three pieces quickly a challenge,
however knows the two days made her a
better and more confident player. The girls are pictured here with the conductor,
Miss Kate. Both girls are to be complemented on their behaviour and efforts over
the two days. They are a fine example of Booyal students doing their ‘Booyal Best'.
Other happenings this term…..
Our 2017 focus is reading, reading and more reading!
World Teachers’ Day: The students acknowledged and thanked Mrs Hollier and Mrs
Ilett for their work and dedication on World Teachers’ Day. At our school, teacher
aides also have a huge role in teaching; something that is pretty special and of great
benefit to the children. We have a wonderful team whose influence goes beyond
school work in the classroom as they support and guide our students and help equip
them for a bright future. It is my privilege to work with such a special
professionals.
Earn & Learn: Thanks to community support we had over 10,000
Earn & Learn points to spend. As discussed at P&C, they were used
to purchase some sand pit machinery; a John Deere excavator, tip
truck and digger, as well as a Spiro (computer coding/programing
gadget) and other everyday pieces of classroom stationery.
Yesterday Project Club organised a chess afternoon for all
ages. Practice makes perfect so we are getting better all the
time! Thank you to everyone who made a gold coin donation.
Recent excursions have been to the Life Education Van at Wallaville State School, a fun
ObstaCOOL Day at Dalarnill, a Snakes Down Under trip for Mrs Hollier’s class, swimming
lessons for everyone and the Grade 6 students experienced a day at Isis District State
High School. Many thanks to Bendigo Community Bank in Gin Gin for covering the cost of
the Life Ed trip.
Students have been out and about over the past few weeks.
Our 2017 focus is reading, reading and more reading!
Remembrance Day: A solemn Remembrance Day service was held at school for
Remembrance Day. Mrs Hollier and school captain, Jessica, also represented our school at
a community service in Childers on Saturday 11th November.
Leadership Day: Most students in Years 4 – 6 participated in a leadership day at Bucca
Retreat, along with students from Cordalba and Dalarnill State Schools. This was the third
day of a program that ran throughout the year, teaching team work, communication,
problem solving and resiliency skills.
Our 2017 focus is reading, reading and more reading!
- We currently have 25 students enrolled. Based on predictions for next year, Mrs
Hollier will be working 3 days a week. If more students enrol by Day 8 this will
change. At this stage we plan on running the students as one class. Mrs Hollier will
primarily be responsible for teaching subjects such as Science, History &
Geography, (perhaps also Art and Technology). Mrs Vaughan, Mrs Kovacs and I will
teach literacy and numeracy based lessons to all students. Having said that, staffing
is still ‘up in the air’ since we never know our exact numbers until Day 8 of the new
school year. Stay tuned!
Thank you to everyone who has sold and returned raffle tickets. We
appreciuate your support. Please return any sold OR unsold tickets no
later than Friday 1st December (next Friday). Thank you. Thanks also to
everyone who has donated prizes for the hamper. More donations are
needed and will be greatly appreciated.
Supplies of some uniforms are very limited, especially the smaller sizes.
If you need shirts for next year please see a P&C member by next
Friday (1st Decmber) so that an order can be submitted.
