President Kate Buchanan called the meeting to order and
asked Mark Decker to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
John Avakian:
o Next week we will begin soliciting Silent
Auction Items. John will send an email with the list of
companies so members can sign up as solicitors.
o PSST needs a volunteer to mentor two
PSST students.
Pat Williams: There will be a Social at Jeff
Civian’s beginning at 5:30pm on Tuesday, September 26.
President Kate: SCARC “Pizza and Pinot” Dinner at 5:30pm on Thursday, September
28th
at the General Daughter’s in Sonoma. RSVP by the 21st.
Dinna Jameson from Healdsburg Center for
the Arts: Thanked us for our Donation to the
Art After Dark program initiated this year and
invited us to attend the last Art After Dark event
this Friday night from 7 – 9:30pm on Plaza
Street between Center and North.
Mark Decker announced that the HB City Council
was going to posthumously recognize Max Dunn
with a special award for his many service
contributions to the community over the years. The
award will be presented to Carolyn Dunn at
tonight's City Council meeting.
SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAY
Dan Chapin donated $42 to his Paul Harris and
announced that he had purchased a Tent Trailer.
HAPPY DOLLARS
John Hazlett donated $25 to the Rotary
Foundation for his camping trip to Washington and
Oregon.
Lynda Guthrie donated $25 to the Rotary
Foundation for her 25-day trip to Denmark,
Norway and Sweden.
John Torres donated $25 to the Club for his
attendance at the Dodger/Giants game.
Jeff Civian donated $100 to the Rotary Foundation
for his trip to Spain, including sightseeing in St
Sebastian and a visit with his grandchild.
RAFFLE
Neal Miller had the winning ticket but didn’t
get the winning marble. He was given a Rain
Check for a bottle of Bertapelle wine!
PROGRAM: CRAFT TALKS
Nita Parker: She began by
thanking Larry Buchanan and Neal Miller
for helping with the Adopt-A-Highway
clean up last weekend. Highlights of her
talk are as follows:
o Grew up in Hanaford, PA
on the Mainline with her Mother and
wonderful Stepfather and loved camping
and visiting the Jersey Shore.
o Attended a College Prep
High School where she played Field
Hockey, Basketball and Lacrosse and took
French which helped during later travels.
o Took her first Drivers Test in a 1958 Cadillac!
o Graduated from Ripon College in Wisconsin as a Philosophy Major
o Following college, she hitchhiked throughout the U.S. with friends before moving to
Washington D.C. where she worked for a variety of organizations during Nixon’s
term and met her husband Dennis.
o After her marriage, she moved to Long Beach, CA where her daughter Laura was
born in 1987.
o Moved to Healdsburg in 1989 where she became a Mortgage Lender and got involved
with Alliance Medical Center’s “Our Body is Healthy” program which ultimately led
to her joining Rotary.
o In 2010 she was inducted into her high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
o She is currently actively involved in tennis, skiing, snorkeling, bocci and relearning
Bridge!
o Her husband likes to say that she “puts 10lbs into a 5lb bag”!
Rick Tang: Rick ran a slide
show of his favorite photos
throughout his Craft Talk and
shared the following
highlights:
o Born in Tacoma WA
but grew up in Marin
County with a Harvard
educated Chinese father
who met his Mother
while working at
Massachusetts General
Hospital.
o Attended high school at the San Rafael Military Academy and briefly attended Lewis
& Clark College in Oregon.
o When he left college, he was drafted and signed up for the Air Force where he did
Radio Maintenance and had his first assignment in Turkey which was a wonderful
experience.
o Then, from 1974 – 80 he attended Indian Valley Colleges in Novato where he studied
photography and ultimately was hired by the Novato Advance, started his own studio
and joined the Novato Rotary at age 26 and began a long-term involvement with
Project Amigo.
o Later he moved to Healdsburg and is currently photographing B&B’s where he’s
become fascinated with photographing bathrooms including fun “selfies” which he
shared with us.
o Rick’s favorite photos clearly showed his incredible talent as a photographer!
CLOSING: Kate thanked our speakers and guests and rang the bell a little after 1:30pm.
