NEW LOCATION FOR OUR WEDNESDAYS IN LENT!
MARCH 2014 VOLUME 14, ISSUE 3
If you were with us for Wednes-day Lenten services last year, you’ll remember a packed sanc-tuary…(Which is a great prob-lem to have!)…This year all our confirmation students and their guides will be joining us for Wednesday services (which will escalate our numbers all the more), which got us thinking about doing two evening ser-vices to accommodate our growing number…But several people have commented how nice it is to have everyone “under one roof” at one ser-vice…Thus, to make room for everyone, we’ll be doing our WEDNESDAY EVENING SERVICES AT THE HIGH-LANDS CAMPUS THIS YEAR! Yes, we’ll still be at 7 pm…Yes, SKIP JAMES WILL STILL BE AT THE PIANO LEADING US IN THE HOLDEN EVE-NING PRAYER…Yes, the PARKING WILL BE EASIER at Highlands… Yes, we’ll be using LENTEN DRAMAS each week (starring some of your family members, friends and neighbors) and our theme will be: PRACTICING THE MARKS OF DISCIPLE-
SHIP…And yes, we’ll be SERVING LENTEN SUPPERS FROM 5:45-6:45 PM AT THE HIGHLANDS CAMPUS! Along with our Congregational Life Committee, this year our youth, and a number of their families will be an integral part of preparing and serving these wonderful suppers. The cost this year will be $4.00 per per-son with a maximum charge of $15.00 for larger families! (A great deal for the best meal, the best price and the best fellow-ship in town!) Any extra dollars brought in will go towards fund raisers for our youth. I hope you’ll plan to join us each Wednesday for this fun, meaningful and unifying time! Keep Lent with us, and please invite friends and family as well. As Bethel congregation contin-ues to grow, we want to be will-ing to accommodate changes to get more and more people in to hear about Jesus, and all Jesus has to offer and promise! I look forward to seeing you ALL at Highlands over the Wednesdays of Lent!
In God’s Great Love! Pastor John Lestock *Please note, our ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES ( on MARCH 5th) WILL BE AT THE DOWNTOWN CAMPUS AT 1 PM and 7 PM AND AT THE HIGH-LANDS CAMPUS AT 5:30 PM (no supper will be served that evening).

WELCA MORNING OF
RENEWAL
All women of the St. Croix Val-ley Conference are invited to be inspired and uplifted at this year’s Morning of Renewal to be held on Saturday, April 5 at First Lutheran in New Rich-mond. The morning will begin with registration and coffee/refreshments from 8:15 – 8:45 am. A fee of $5 per person will be taken at the door to cover expenses. An offering will also be taken; half will go to the Syn-odical Women’s Organization, one fourth to the Synod Re-
source Center and one fourth to the New Richmond Backpack program. The theme for the morning is, “All are Precious” and will include a presentation on ra-cial justice by Gail Lando. Gail is a retired teacher and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Grantsburg. The last 15 years of her career were spent teaching English as a sec-ond language. Racial justice has been a central theme in her life as the mother of two bi-racial children and two Cambodian foster children. In 2013 she had the opportunity to attend WELCA’s racial justice training, “Today’s Dream, Tomorrow’s Reality” to become a racial jus-tice advocacy trainer. Her per-sonal experiences add a depth to her presentation, which you won’t want to miss. In March 2013 First Lutheran moved to its new location at 218 county Road K on the west side of New Richmond. The church is located just north of business (old) 64 on County K. Women of Bethel, please con-sider attending this Morning of Renewal and join your sisters in Christ from other congregations for a great morning of fellow-ship and learning.

We want to thank those who helped with both phase of the Volunteer Expo at both Bethel campuses last month! We appreciate those of you who “manned” the booths as well as many of you who stepped forward as volunteers to serve God and God’s people. We can do great things when we work together!

ARE YOU CRAFTY?
We are looking for volunteers who are handy with needle and thread (and a sewing machine!) to sew the baptismal napkins and embroider a cross on each one. This task has been faithfully and joyfully handled by some of our veteran Women of Bethel for many years. We are hoping to add some new names to that corps of craf-ters! Please contact Kris Salen-tine at [email protected] if you would like to share your talents in this special ministry.
MANY THANKS FOR A
GREAT EVENT! We want to thank the many vol-
unteers and staff who worked so hard to make the evening with Tony Campolo such a great event! We had over 600 people of all ages, from within Bethel as well as from other churches and denominations from around the community and the metro area! Thank you also, to the Bethel Endowment Fund and Women of Bethel for providing funds to make the evening possible. Great things happen when we all pitch in and work together. Thanks! *The event was videotaped for those who were not able to be there.
For those who have expressed
an interest in traveling to Haiti
on a mission trip in July, there
will be an information/sign-up

at 10:45 am at Bethel High-
lands. We will go over trip
dates, cost, passport info, immu-
nizations, projects, etc. If you
are unable to attend this meeting
but definitely want to go with us,
please notify Alan Park know
([email protected]) and
he will get information to you.

ments. To assist you in plan-
ning, the dates are July 12-19

ADULT MINISTRY There are numerous ways to connect to the adult ministry opportunities offered at Bethel. Our hope is that through these ministries we will grow as disciples of Jesus by studying God’s Word and being a part of authentic Christian community. There are also regularly scheduled Life Groups which gather as Christian community around common interests and Small Groups which gather around God’s Word. Finally, there are adult Prayer Ministries to ask for prayer, learn about prayer, or pray for or with an-other. Please visit the Adult Ministry page at www.bethelhudson.org to see a full listing of minis-try opportunities!!

council for stepping forward to serve on the council. These are both exciting and challenging times and Bethel as God continues to do great things through us. The pastors will continue to pray for each of the council members.
We welcomed 30+ new members in the past month. Our challenge will be to find ways to get each of the new members involved.
There was a volunteer expo Downtown this past week and will be at the Highlands next week. We will be chal-lenging everyone to “Jump In” and get involved and we will be having commitment cards to help everyone to get involved. We need vol-unteers and that involves reaching out to the entire community and not just vol-unteering at Bethel. We want to create an outward facing culture helping be-yond the our congregation
Working on Lenten prepara-tion including the 2nd annual Lenten devotionals as well as preparing for weekly skits. Many more areas will be helping serve the Lenten
