The vision of St. Juliana Falconieri Catholic Community is to live as a people of God with Christ at the center of our lives through
liturgy, faith formation and community.
Our mission is to be a welcoming family dedicated to proclaiming the gospel, celebrating the Sacraments, educating, serving,
and providing opportunity for all to enrich their faith.
THE PARISH AS ONE BODY “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I do not need you.’ Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary . Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. “ (1 Cor. 12:17-25)
LEADERSHIP

Today’s Gospel lesson is the raising of Lazarus from death to new life. Jesus teaches this lesson: there’s no way around death and the tragedy of death never has the final word. No growth happens without some death. Death is the only way to new life. Whether it’s the grain of wheat that must fall into the ground and die, or each of us leaving behind someone or something – dying each time, there is no growth.
It is only through little deaths that we find greater fulfillment. The grain dies and it springs up anew – sixty or a hundredfold! Death is not God’s final voice – God is always calling us to life, a new and more abundant life than we can imagine. Because it’s God’s life – God who is more abundant than we can imagine.
Birth itself is a little death. Life is so comfortable in the womb. There we lived comfortably without a care. Then, zingo, we are thrown out into the world and
slapped. But, the lucky are totally cared for, pampered like never again. But once we begin to grow and have some control of various movements, comes a death. Independence gained, total pampering lost. But we get to play with friends and live without a whole lot of responsibilities. Death to pampered care, hello and welcome new life – play!
Then, without us knowing comes the day when free play ends. A death. Formal education, schooling starts. There we find ourselves stranded, by Mom, the one who never failed us before, today she abandons us in a yard behind a fence. Will I be left forever, like for adoption? Who are all these people? Another death. And a new life. Actually it’s a death for Mom too, she leaves with a tear. She has new life during our school day! For many years a routine fills every day. We get to know our classmates as friends and our teachers as mentors. Then comes a day called: “Graduation.” We looked forward to it for some time. It’s a death. A new life follows.
Another school, new classmates, new teachers; that’s new life. The death wasn’t so bad. In this life we get to pick some class subjects. Strange things start happening to our physical bodies – death to childhood, hello to adolescence. We live in a strange in-between period for a few years.
High school graduation was another death day we waited for. It’s a death and resurrection. Goodbye – Mom, Dad, siblings, dog, cat, and bird. Goodbye favorite friends forever. Hello university freedom! The routine is familiar, more years of trying to get the greatest amount of reward with minimal efforts. One day the whole formal education cycle will end. It’s a death. You will be asked: “How was school?” “Much better than I realized at the time!” will be the answer. This graduation is death to formal education. It’s the beginning of a new life of managers and supervisors who just might demand that you put more care into your presentation for the company to Microsoft than the “efforts” you gave that paper on the Civil War. The new life of post education will include finding intimacy with someone else and taking responsibility for the other “until death do us part.” It will bring new life. In time children, your children, will be a death and new life. Living their “life wish” you’ll have to give up freedom, take risks, ready yourself for the challenge of giving up – dying so that you can have something better – the new life of family.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” But the Christian life is different than how Ferris Bueller might have lived it, with reckless abandonment to rules or direction. The direction for the Christian is toward one goal, Jesus – away from the self and hedonism. There is only one way to Jesus’ goal: the Resurrection and that is up the hill, Calvary Hill. Dying to rise to something greater than we could ever expect.
When God asks you to die to something known, remember - it’s an invitation to live your life to its fullness – abundantly. “I’ve come so that you will have life and have it abundantly.” (Jn.10:10)

HOLY WEEK AND EASTER SCHEDULE
Have you been looking for a means of furthering your faith? Do you wish to better serve your parish and neighboring community? Are you searching for a sense of Catholic fellowship and togetherness? If yes, then have you considered being a Knight of Columbus? The Knights of Columbus Council of St.
Juliana welcomes all members of the parish to come and learn how the Knights help our community and how the men of our parish can help the Knights in their goals.
The Knights of Columbus will be holding a recruitment drive after the morning Masses this Sunday, April 2nd in the Parish Center. This is an opportunity to speak with various members, teams, and committees within the Knights who will be able to share their expe-riences and just how you can enter into the works that the Council is a part of. This also is a chance to watch some videos concerning the Knights, to learn about the history of the St. Juliana Council, and to speak with a Knights of Columbus insurance representative. Please come by for coffee and donuts and a chance to see how the Knights can provide an outlet for Catholic faith, charity, and fellowship.

The Knights of Columbus at our parish sponsored an insulation and drywall project in Tijuana, Mexico for Isabel, Damasco, and Karla Lopez. The project was completed last November. Recently, Doug and Jean Knudson visited the family at their home. Because of the recent rains, their home was inaccessible by car. We walked down the side of a newly eroded hill; however, their Corazon home is built on a solid concrete foundation. Isabel serves as a community leader and treasurer on her Corazon committee. She likes to collect recyclables to raise money for the children. Three years ago they received a Corazon house. Isabel says she is
grateful to her sponsors for their support Their house is warmer now and more pleasant. Isabel is working towards getting a retaining wall, another project offered by Corazon, to protect their property from further erosion.
If you would like to help sponsor a Corazon project please call Doug and Jean Knudson at 714-992-2905.
