OVER THERE: A Centennial Celebration of Our
Troops in WWI
Wabash Valley College and the Wabash Valley Arts Council are
pleased to present the community theatre production, “OVER
THERE: A Centennial Celebration of Our Troops in WWI” in four
performances in the Brubeck Theatre with 7:30 p.m. performances
on Thursday, Friday & Saturday, March 15, 16, 17 & 1:30, Sunday,
March 18, 2018. Returning as Director is Sue Schriber.
This historic revue is
for both young and
old, showing the
tragic events of “The
War to End All
Wars,” WW1. Songs
from the era, letters
written from the front
lines, poetry and
visuals, newspaper
clippings, posters,
sheet music and sound effects are woven into the production to
help create the history of the times. OVER THERE shows the re-
luctance of America to become involved in the war through dia-
logue with three iconic Broadway composers: Jerome Kern, Irving
Berlin and George M. Cohan, and two star performers, Sophie
Tucker and Ma Rainey from the years 1914-1919. On the other
side of the ocean we meet a loving English couple. Jack is a sol-
dier who writes letters home from the front lines. He receives let-
ters back from his sweetheart, Bess, as she awaits his return from
the War.
Jane Owen Recipient of “TRIBE” Award
Jane Owen, the Coordinator of Financial Aid at Wabash Valley Col-
lege, has been selected as the Spring Semester recipient of the
TRIBE Award. This employee recognition, established for WVC staff
and students, is to recognize outstanding achievement, contribution,
and performance in their jobs.
Describing how Jane represents the spirit of the TRIBE Award, a fac-
ulty member stated, “Jane is on the front lines of WVC—one of the
first people our students meet. She is always so caring and compas-
sionate with everyone she meets. You never hear her complain and
she never wants to ask for help—she just gets things done. We need
more people like Jane Owen—a key member of our WVC Tribe.”
