We’ll be joining in with Sheffield’s Year of Making to look at people as makers, and we’ll also be thinking about the importance of research, celebrating International Clinical Trials Day in a special collaborative medical event on 20 May.
Together with a host of special guests, including writers, musicians, poets, photographers alongside partners from around the city, we will probe the past, present and future and examine our relationships with ourselves, others and the world around us.

In this interactive scenario, developed by Sheffield Robotics, Zeno acts as a personal trainer to teach children about exercise and healthy eating. Zeno encourages children to take part in three brief physical activities and can give feedback about the energy involved in each of these. Children can further talk with Zeno to solve a quiz about healthy living. This event is suitable for children old enough to attend primary school.

The Senses: 8th Annual South Yorkshire Dementia Creative Arts ExhibitionSaturday 7 – Friday 13 May 2016 daily, 9am–4pm (not open Sunday 8 May)
This 8th annual exhibition is being held at Barnsley College, St Mary’s Church, Barnsley, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
People with dementia, family members and care and support practitioners are invited to take part in and visit the event. The theme for 2016 is ‘The Senses’. Anyone affected by memory loss or dementia is invited to contribute creative art to the exhibition (see our website for submission arrangements).
The 2016 exhibition is twinned with a parallel exhibition in the USA. Creative art produced by people in South Yorkshire will be displayed in Detroit and vice versa. A Barnsley College student has designed the exhibition image used in both the UK and USA.
The main objective of the exhibition is to offer members of South Yorkshire’s dementia community an annual opportunity to showcase their talents and share their experiences of life lived with dementia.

They offer a glimpse into life in an old Russian village, replete with romance, melancholy and a good dose of surreal humour. With global guitar, wailing bagpipes, expert fiddle-scraping, pumping bass and pounding drums, their songs of rural passions, heroic sailors, goats and pancakes are delivered with casual wit and playful imagination!
Iran – Reflection of SilenceTuesday 8 March, 7.30pm Reflection of Silence is a collaboration between four musicians from different backgrounds, from Rock to Iranian music, who share a mutual passion for the art of creative improvisation in Iranian and Kurdish music.
