Press and Media: The Times ran a feature in its student law supplement reporting positively on our re-launched Law Clinic. UEL honorary Keir Starmer was interviewed on BBC Asian Network, talking about the importance of diversity and how UEL encourages wider participation in HE. Liz Pearson’s reflections on Stratford’s vibrant cultural quarter featured prominently in Arts Professional. There was also significant online pick up of Cynthia Fu’s research into the drug modafinil and how it impacts on depression. While Dr Ashok Jansari’s research into mind mapping featured in The Sun. The press team also tackled a number of challenging media enquiries/reputational issues around pay settlements, value for money for students, and student accommodation. Internal Communications: We continue to talk to students and staff about enhancing our communications offer. The recent staff and student communications survey gives us invaluable insight into communications at UEL, in particular how and what we communicate. The staff communications survey received nearly 200 responses and the student communications survey received over 650 responses. We’ll be reporting the detailed findings of each survey shortly. The new EET and communications e-newsletter, dedicated to providing students with the latest opportunities for work placements, internships and employability information, is proving to be a hit with students. The first issue netted an impressive 1,183 click-throughs. Events: Our survey examining the experience of the graduates has demonstrated that there is rising satisfaction – 90% – of the graduation experience. This is an improvement on 2012 – with feedback across external services (i.e. gowning, photography and merchandising) also positive. We will continue to work with staff and students to look at how can make further improvements in 2014. We are also working on securing the support of a number of high profile figures to support our programme of corporate events for this year.
