The hieght of shipping containers are commonly in 2 sizes. General purpose (GP) at 2.591m and High Cube (HC) at 2.896m. Even though the small addition of around 300mm does not seem like much the reality is that over the length of a container it can represent 15% more storage space. If you are planning to modify a container to something that might be more functional then the additional hieght can allow for power, services while still maintaining a high ceiling.

Beware of backyard operations - There are a heap of container “Brokers” in the market today and they seem to offer great prices but do not actually con-trol the quality of the container you are being sent and may struggle to provide support if there is an issue.

1. Look for a real container depot that has trained staff and a good reputation - Because they deal with 1000’s of containers, often own the containers and will inspect the containers at the highest professional level as they want to maintain their reputation in the industry for quality and service.

2. Find a supplier that can back their product - If for some reason you get a container that does not meet your expectation will you be able to fix or swap the container. Only a real container yard can offer this level of service

3. Beware of container grading - Unfortunately, there is no industry standard for grading used shipping containers, which means it can be hard to com-pare prices. Make sure you ask about the details of the condition of the used container, not just the grade.

4. Tell your supplier what you intend to use the container for - A really great container supplier will advise you on the best grade or type of used contain-er for your requirements rather than just sell you whatever you ask about.

5. Look for a supplier with experience in transport - As there are a number of options for delivering a shipping container it is really important to get the correct transport otherwise you may find that you can not position the container where you need it once it arrives. Tilt Tray, Side Loaders and Hiab trucks all have different abilities and restrictions for positioning. Find a supplier that knows how this works

6. Find a supplier that cares - A Company that sells used shipping containers for storage should really ask you about Security and Ventilation. These may not seem important but for the small additional cost can save you from theft or potential damage (from moisture build-up) of your stored items if this is not taken into consideration

A good quality used shipping container has the advantage that it can be a very cost-effective way to store items while still retaining a good resale value if you no longer need the container. Shipping Containers Grading Explained

NEW BUILD (One Way Trip) These containers have been newly built and have only done one trip at sea, as opposed to ALL the other grades which have been at sea for many years. If you are looking to buy quality, these containers will last for many decades, and represent the best value, and life expectancy available. Whilst these containers are newly built they have however been used to getting cargo from overseas to Australia, which means there can be signs of use. We give these containers to shipping lines free of charge to be used to transport cargo on the initial trip, which enables the cheapest resale to you, our customer. So, it is possible to find (a small amount) of non-transferable markings to the internal as well as external marks from handling equipment at the ports. Please note that we highlight that there may be some marks, to ensure we give an accurate description. This will help both the perfectionist and the average buyer.

Our premium repainted shipping containers are painted inside and out, in our standard colours (Colourbond colour available on request. Additional charges may apply). Completely wind and watertight, weatherproof, vermin proof, and all the door seals have been serviced. This grade of container will have limited dents and/or patches however these will not impact on the internal storage space. 100% secure, lockable and cosmetically appealing, if being used where it needs to look good in its new surroundings where the budget does not allow for a new build.

The Containers First “Standard Storage” Used Container is our most

popular product in the used second hand market, as it is perfect for

general storage, storing personal effects, archiving documents, storing

furniture or other bulky items. This grade of container will have dents

and/or patches however these will not impact on the internal storage

space.

This container has been repaired and certified to our 11 point preventative

maintenance checklist, which mean that you can be assured of quality.

Completely wind and water tight, weather proof, vermin proof and all the door seals have been serviced. The main

difference between our standard storage container and premium repainted is that it will show signs of spot painting

rather than complete inside and outside repaint. 100% secure and lockable.

INDUSTRIAL GRADEECONOMY WIND & WATERTIGHTAs per the name, our IndustEconomy Wind and Watertight Container is our best value graded container for its condition and is still watertight, weatherproof and vermin proof. In this grade, the container is cosmetically inferior to the Cargo Worthy and Premium Repainted containers and will show more signs of wear, tear, dents, surface rust, patches and other damage. This grade of container is excellent for short to mid-term commercial storage, trade storage or domestic storage where longevity and appearance are a low priority.

“AS IS” UNGRADED CONTAINER

Ocationally, there are shipping containers that might not meet our Certified Container

checks and will be sold in “AS-IS” Condition. These contianers should be considered

based on individual condition rather than assuming anything, They often require repair

and might not be able to garentee wind & watertight condition. This type of ungraded

container is often found for sale on marketplaces like Ebay, Gumtree and Facebook

without any checks or guarantees.

Shipping Container Delivery Option Explained

It is difficult to select the correct delivery type, the team at Containers First are here to help and advise you through the process. It is however critical that the correct delivery type is selected. The wrong delivery type, or site conditions not conducive to delivery, will result in a “Failed Delivery” this can become very expensive to the CUSTOMER, and to be avoided at all costs. The responsibility is solely on the customer (who knows the site location) to ensure site conditions, and container delivery type are correct. Site conditions may include (but not limited to) things like boggy, sloped, or uneven ground; overhead wires/tree, branches/house, eves/other structures; raised site for the container, and container stacking.

10’ (3m), 20’ (6m) & 40’ (12m) container HI-AB deliveryHI-AB Trucks have a mounted crane to position a container at any angle to the delivery truck (e.g. 90 º, 45°, etc.) They can also place a container on a platform/piers/raised area, over obstructions such as walls/fences etc, and can be offloaded to either the side, or the rear of the truck. Please note, 40’ High cube containers cannot be delivered via this method. The HI-AB can deliver an empty container to a reach of up to 12 metres. All HI-AB trucks differ in size. Please consult our team if you require a HI-AB truck for your storage container delivery and confirm the details of your site to ensure correct delivery. Can deliver with a truck and trailer to accommodate a 2x 20ft container.

SIDE LOADER DELIVERY

A Side Loader is the best solution for delivery when there is limited space in front or behind where the container is to be located. Side loader delivery is ideal when the shipping container is loaded to or from the delivery address. The truck drives or reverses beside the space the container will sit. The container is then offloaded onto the ground (on the drivers’ side of the vehicle only), and lands between the two out rigger feet of the side loader, parallel to, and approximately half a metre from the side of the truck.

TILT TRAY DELIVERY

Tilt Tray delivery is an excellent and cost effective choice for delivery, where access and space is not strictly limited. In this method, the tray of the truck lifts up from the cab, allowing the container to slide in a controlled and safe manner slowly until the back edge is on the ground. The truck then drives forward, and the container remains stationary, continuing to gently slide lower down the tray of the truck until it is wholly unloaded.

Space requirements:n Allow a tilting height of 5m for a 20’ container.n Allow a total Length of 20m, for a 20’ Container on a truck who’s maximum load is 1 x 20 container only.n Allow and a Width 3.5m for either 20’ or 40’ deliveries
