Teaching of Semerimus

• She herself was the way to God.• She alone could administer salvation to

sinners through sacraments and sprinkling of holy water.

• Tammuz was tragically slain by a wild boar. She fasted for 40 days and he came to life on Ishtar.– This is celebrated each year by the temple

virgins of the cult.

– During the feast of Ishtar colored eggs were exchanged and eaten as symbol of resurrection.

– An evergreen tree was displayed and yule log was burned.

– Cakes marked with “T” for Tammuz (Hot cross buns) was baked and eaten.

How it infected the Jewish nation

• Jer 7:18. The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and [they] pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.

• Jer 44:25. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: 'You and your wives have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands, saying, "We will surely keep our vows that we have made, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her." You will surely keep your vows and perform your vows!'

Mystery Babylon: Current ViewThe mystery Babylon is at work today.

• 2 Tim 3:1-5. “…having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.”

• 2 Peter 2:1. “…bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord.”

• Rev 3:15-17. “… I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot…”

• The Apostate Church – Protestantism, Catholicism, Judaism, Orthodoxy and other major religions who deny the power (??)

Mystery Babylon: Future View• Rev 17: 8, 11. The beast that

was…is not…but shall be.– Stronger than Rev 13.

• Rev 17: 7, 9, 10-11. Refers to the revived Roman Empire.– Vs. 10. (Possible explanation)

5 have fallen: Augustus, Tiberius,

Caligula, Claudius, Nero.

1 is: Domitian.

Not yet come: Anti Christ.

• Ten horns…Ten Kings. 17: 7, 12, 16.– Daniel 2:42. Ten toes of the image.– Revived Roman Empire– EU ??. (Check the image on the coin).

• False Church lends its power to elevate Anti Christ in the first part of tribulation. Rev 17:7.

• Rev 17:16. Anti Christ will turn to destroy her. The false church will be destroyed.

• Vs 1. Worldwide influence.• Vs. 2. corrupts the entire earth.• Vs 4. Possesses vast wealth.• Vs. 6. Drunk with the blood of the saints.• Vs 3, 7. Teams up with the Anti Christ.• Vs 5. Name written on her forehead. Harlot advertising her trade.• Vs 9. Headquartered in Rome (??)

Rev 18: Babylon - Destruction of the World’s Economic System

Ch 17. Ecclesiastic.

• Religious – Apostate Church

• 17:16. Hated by the Kings of the earth.

• Destroyed by Anti Christ and rulers

• Destroyed first – in the midst of the great tribulation

Vs 2. And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!

Ch 18. Economic.

• Political and commercial

• 18:9. Loved by the Kings

• Vs. 5, 8. Destroyed by God

• Destroyed at the Second Coming of Christ

Economic Power of Ancient Babylon

• Founded by Nimrod. • Meaning "the gate of god(s)" .• Nebuchadnezzar built Babylon, the capital city of

Babylonia.• The famous hanging gardens of Babylon were

known to the Greeks as one of the seven wonders of the world.

• Historian Herodotus: – City was surrounded by a wall 350 feet high and 87 feet

thick – wide enough for six chariots to drive abreast. – There were 250 watch towers at strategic locations. – Outside the wall was a large ditch or moat. – Cost of construction: one billion dollars ( though built

with slave labour).

Heavens’ reaction to Babylon’s destruction

Rev 18: 20 "Rejoice over her, O heaven, and [you] holy

apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!“

• Rev 18: 21-23. Seven “no more”.

• Three events during tribulation that causes heaven to rejoice.

– Rev 12:12. Satan is cast out. – Rev 18:20. Babylon is destroyed. – Rev 19:7. Lamb is married.

Lessons• Sovereign will of God:

Rom 8:28 - God causes all things to work together for good. Isaiah 46:11- I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed

it, I will also do it.

• Sure Judgement of God: 2 Peter 3:3-9 – The Lord is not slack.

• ‘Sincere’ Word of God:2 Peter 2:2 – Desire

the sincere word of God. Without wax, without

compromise.James 1:21- and

humbly accept the message God has planted in your hearts
