Traffic Codes and Equipment
All vehicles must drive on the right side of the road.
Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 100 km/h on country roads, 130 km/h on motorways.
Priority rules: If nothing else is indicated, traffic from the right has priority.
Special rules and equipment: All vehicles must carry a warning triangle, first aid kit and at least one warning vest.
Traffic lights: red, yellow, green; before green phase ends, green light blinks 4 times, then switches to yellow and red.
Drivers are allowed to enter intersection on green and blinking green.
Alcohol: Drivers of motor vehicles below 7.500kg are deemed road worthy with less than 50 milliliters of alcohol; for
vehicles with more than 7.500kg, with less than 10 milliliters.
Motorway fees: for all motorways; 2018: 1-year – EUR 87,30; 2-months – EUR 26,20; 10-days – EUR 9,00; can be
bought at border crossings and petrol stations and on-line: https://shop.asfinag.at/en/
Additional toll for certain special road sections (e.g. Brennerautobahn or some mountain passes).

Facts about MGCC Czech Republic
The Club was established recently, in April 2013 within the framework of
Czech Classic Cars Club (CCCC), which helped the start-up. Affiliated to
the MG Car Club UK. There have been numerous events such as rallies,
regularity and orientation tours, hill climbs and circuit competitions
implemented under this umbrella organization over the last 15 years for
British classic cars. Based on this experience, the MGCC started with full
swing into similar activities. There are about 300 MG cars of various age
in the country, primarily after the WW II production years, such as MG
TC, MG TD, MGA , MGB / GT, Midgets and few more powerful MGC,
V8 and RV8, these having been imported from UK after the 1990.

Fuel: Unleaded petrol 'natural' (95 and 100 octane), diesel (nafta) and LPG (autoplyn or plyn) available.
Lead substitute/additive sold in petrol stations. Up to 10 litres of petrol in a can permitted.

Speed limits: In built-up areas 30 mph (50 km/h), outside built-up areas 55 mph (90 km/h)
and motorways 80 mph (130 km/h).
Seat belts: Compulsory for front and rear seat occupants to wear seat belts, if fitted.
Lights: Use of dipped headlights/daytime running lights during the day is compulsory throughout the year.

Carriage of children, When transporting a child under 135 cm in a private car, delivery car or a lorry, a restraint seat
must be used, if the seat belts are fitted in the car, or the child seat can otherwise be fitted into the car. If no restraint
seat can be fitted, the child in the age of 3 years at least, may not sit on the front seat. A child under 3 years may not be transported in a car at all without a restraint seat. The only exception for this are the taxis. All the restraint seats must
meet the minimum criteria of the certain type approval. All seats used must be approved according to the rule 44/03 of
the United Nations European Economic Commission, or according to the EU directive 77/541/EEC, or according to the
rules or standards later amended in that directive. The 2nd article of the seat belt directive says that the seats approved
by the standards which were applied at the moment of the date of taking the restraint seat into use may be used until
9.5.2008. The requirement level set for restraint seats acc. to the seat belt directive entered into force on 1.5.1996 in
Finland, but within a transfer period, which lasted until 31.12.1998 the production, import and sales of models cohering
to the older standards was permitted. These seats can be used until 9.5.2008. Crash helmets, Compulsory for motorcyclists, mopedists and passengers.
Mobile phone and driving, Obligatory use of hands free device will is in force after the 1.1.2003. Penalty 50 €.
Nationality sign, Obligatory, unless the vehicle is registered in Geneva of Vienna Road Convention country and bears
the so called “EU licence plates”. For vehicles registered outside Geneva or Vienna Road Convention countries, despite
such “EU plates” an additional nationality sign is required.
Overtaking, Overtake on the left, unless the vehicle to be overtaken is signalling to turn left. In parallel lines of traffic,
vehicles may be overtaken on the right. Vehicles being overtaken should not cross the white line which indicates the lane for cyclists and pedestrians.

Parking, Stopping and parking prohibitions follow international practice. Parking meters are usually grey and operate

wheel clamps are not in use, police may remove illegally parked vehicles, and levy a fine.
Priority, At intersections, vehicles coming from the right have priority except on main roads. The approach to these
main roads is indicated by a sign with a red triangle on a yellow background. When this sign is supplemented by a red
octagon with STOP in the centre of the sign, vehicles must stop before entering the intersection. Trams and emergency vehicles, even coming from the left, always have priority over other vehicles.
Road network, The main roads are surfaced with asphalt or oil-and-sand and are in good condition all year round. In
southern Finland there are local weight restrictions from April to May because of frost heaving, and in northern Finland
in May and the beginning of June. There are no toll roads.

Greeks drive like crazy: It is a common fact that the Greeks drive like crazy, especially in Athens. Be careful,
particularly if drivers in your country are civilized!
Do not to drive a car within the city limits: First-time tourists in Athens are advised not to drive a car within the
city limits. Better use public transportation or taxis.
Traffic Jam: One of the biggest problems you will face when driving in Athens (and the major Greek cities) is
traffic jam.
Peak hours: In the peak hours, you will see plenty of cars parked illegally or double-parked. It seems that Greeks
take the risk to get a ticket or cause damage to their car, while they get off to do a short task.
Don’t miss your turn: If you miss your turn, do not expect that you can circle the block and get back where you
wanted. Many streets in Greece are one way, so you may need to pass several blocks until you find a legal turn.
Huge trucks, lorries and vans: Huge trucks, lorries and vans are allowed to move anywhere at anytime, even in
the most popular or narrow streets.
Don’t get upset with Greeks attitude: Even if you think that you bother nobody with your driving, people will
do get annoyed: if you drive fast, you will be yelled at that you drive like crazy; if you drive slow, you will be
yelled at that you block the cars behind! Try not to pay attention or get upset, just go on!
Horns oftenly used: When you are in the traffic line, if red goes to green and you don’t leave in the first second, you
will hear horns and yellings from behind. Horn in Greece is used in all cases: to prevent an accident but also to greet
someone familiar in the street. The noise of horns may drive you crazy sometimes especialy in Athens’ centre.
Change lines when nobody is watching you! If you turn on the signal to change lines when driving, the car
behind will speed up to get in front of you. Change lines when nobody is watching you!
Motocycles and taxis must be avoided: Most of all beware of motorcycles and taxis. Taxi drivers spend half a
day driving and have too many nerves, so they lack patience and may result unpredictably.
Always wear your seatbelt: Always wear your seatbelt. The accident rate in Greece is the biggest in Europe and
extra attention is required. Also there are frequent police blocks, especially in the highways.
Parking: Unless you are in the countryside or the forest, be patient when you are looking for a parking seat.
Highways: The national highways around Athens are in good state. Usually, the speed rate in the highways is
