ADVERTISE First Annual Food Truck Day Rallies Against Proposed Ordinance from: The Chicago Tribune; Jennifer Delgado, Mitchell Smith and Dawn Rhodes On Thursday, food trucks throughout the city banded together to call attention to a proposed ordinance that will place heavy restrictions on mobile food vendors in Cook County. Set for a public hearing on July 19th at City Hall and a legislative vote on July 24th, the new ordinance would allow mobile food vendors to cook on their trucks- a first for the fairly new food service phenomenon in Chicago. However, the al- lowance comes at a costly compromise; trucks will be restricted to designated parking spots throughout the city, and a 200-foot buffer between trucks and restaurants will be enforced with fines up to $2000, essentially barring food trucks from the downtown area. Now that Jerry Sandusky has been found guilty for sexually abusing children, allegations are being thrown at the most senior officials of the college for failing to prevent the ongoing incidents for 14 years. Penn State higher-ups questioned what ac- tions they should take in reagrds to Sandusky as far back as 1998, but skeptics say they ignored to saved face and not have to deal with bad publicity. Let’s hope they realize now that stopping sexual abuse of children is bound to get them better pub- licity than not. from: The New York Times, Ken Belson NATIONAL Even More At Penn State Are At Fault Those who complain about prices at the Taste of Chicago have one free dish to look forward to this year: Asian Carp sliders. While earlier plans encouraged chefs to use the ingredient in order to skew the fish’s overpopulation, the gratis sliders being served are being pegged as “a poor man’s crab cake” and overall flavorless. Let’s hope this plan doesn’t stick around for the next pest invasion or who knows what underwhelming dishes chefs will try to make gourmet. from: The Associated Press LOCAL Attacks in Wrigleyville tied to a group of four men shooting a music video are now being disputed as racially provoked. While the brawl backdropped by a white stretch limo at first appeared to be hap- pening for no particular reason, relatives of the arrested men are now calling for the arrest of the others involved who were supposedly taunting the men with racial slurs as they shot a party scene in the street for their video. from: The Chicago Tribune, by Lolly Bowean NEIGHBORHOOD Random Attacks Not So Random?
