THE TLC TIMES www.tlccentre.ie September 2015 CARA CARE CENTRE, NORTHWOOD PARK, SANTRY DEMESNE, DUBLIN 9. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Agata is big part of a laundry and housekeeping team here in Cara. In her free time she loves spending time with her beautiful daughter Amelia visiting Dublin's museums, playgrounds and she also enjoy drawing. Agata is very active so it's no surprise that she loves dancing Salsa and nights out with her colleagues. Agata is a very hard worker and her enthusiastic nature goes down well with the residents and the families. Keep up the good work! TRIP TO BUNRATTY CASTLE CO. CLARE O n Thursday 23rd July we went on a day trip to Bunratty Castle, Co. Clare. We loaded up our two buses and set off for the day in great spirits. We were blessed with the weather as it stayed nice and dry all day. We stopped off half way in Roscrea in a lovely Hotel called Rackett Hall. There was scones, pastries and tea waiting for us. When we had our fill we hopped back onto our bus and before we knew it we arrived to Bunratty Castle. We took our time walking round looking at all the old thatch roofed houses, read the stories on the walls of the history behind the castle and sat in the gardens enjoying an ice-cream. We walked around the heritage trail and seen some farm animals and old churches. There is a lovely pub inside the grounds of the castle were we had our dinner and a pint. We decided to stop off at Rackett Hall on the way back to break up the trip. Again the food there was fantastic. It was a great day for all and we will definitely do it again soon. TLC TALENT SHOW T LC Santry held a fantastic talent show in August and we were delighted to be invited along. We practised in the weeks leading up to the event so our voices would be well tuned. The whole room was packed with great singers and comedians from all the four centres ready to compete but Vincent O’Gorman did us proud by coming second place. Thank you TLC Santry we will definitely come again next year! NATIONAL CONCERT HALL A ll of the TLC’s and Cara Care were busy this month fund raising money and raising awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society. Here in Cara we fund raised by doing a “guess how many sweets in a jar” competition. Well done to Carl in the kitchen who guessed the correct amount. All four centres then went the National Concert Hall to celebrate our fund raisings and were entertained by a lovely singer and musicians. The national concert hall is such a beautiful place we were amazed at how pristine and elaborate it is. We all enjoyed tea and scones as the singer sang our favourite songs. ANIMALS INSIDE OUT IN THE AMBASSADOR W e decided to pay the Animal’s Inside Out Exhibition a visit that is being held in the Ambassador. We had heard good reviews and thought it would be very interesting. It did not disappoint. There were animals as small as birds and as tall as giraffes. We couldn’t get over the size of the elephant, called samba who weighed 3.2 tons!

SUMMIT INN / COASTThe weather was so nice on one of our Monday outings we decided to take

a trip out to Howth and drive along the coast. First stop was around theback of the Airport and we plane spotted for a while. We then went ontoPortmarnock and drove along the coast. We could smell the fresh sea air andwere delighted to see so many people out enjoying themselves in the water. When we reached Howth we stopped off in the Summit Inn pub for a pintand a few sandwiches. We managed to get the perfect spot out in the beergarden and sat in the sunshine people watching as we sipped our drinks.Paddy Murphy said it had been so long since he was out in Howth but wasdelighted to see it hadn’t changed too much.

BODYGUARDWhen we heard the musical The Bodyguard was coming to the Bord Gais

Theatre we jumped at the chance to go. The musical is based aroundWhitney Huston’s greatest hits so of course we knew we were in for a treat. Thestoryline was romantic and easy to follow, the dancing had us up out of our seatsjoining in, and the music couldn’t have been better. It really was a fantastic showand we had a great time and couldn’t stop talking about it on the way home.

BOTANICGARDENSEngaging Activities invited us to an

event last week in the BotanicGardens, Glasnevin. The BotanicGardens is beautiful this time of yearand we took our time strolling roundlooking at all the flowers as theleader educated us on the flowers. We then had a great laugh puttingtogether our own flowers into potsand even got to bring home ourmasterpieces! After this we wentinto a lovely function room with abirds eye view over the gardens andwere treated to music tea andscones! We had a great sing songand our Nuala McNamara even gotup to sing Danny Boy for everyone.

Weinvited the other four TLC centres tojoin us on the big day and couldn’twait to see what designs theycreated too. It turned out to be afine summer’s day so we decided tomake the most of it and hold theevent in our garden! Theatmosphere when each personstrutted their stuff on the catwalkwas amazing, everyone was in greatspirits and our models got loads ofcompliments on their designs. Afterthe show we had a sing song anddancing and of course somerefreshments and ice-cream wentdown a treat. Everyone was sayinghow much they enjoyed the day.Thank you to the other centres forjoining us and taking part!

Glamourous GrannyAtruly enjoyable afternoon was had by all of our grannies and great-

grannies of TLC. They got all dolled up and showed us how glamourousthey are. Each of them had a little interview with Activity Coordinator Noel, which had us crying with laughter, especially when Granny Deignaninterrupted with her comments! The three judges had a really hard decisionto make at the end but Helen O’Neill from 2nd floor was crowned thewinner. It was such a great success that we intend to have a similarafternoon for the dapper Grandads in the near future.

TLC’S GOT TALENTWe held auditions to let residents choose who they thought should

represent TLC Citywest in our Group Talent Show. Our residents set offto TLC Santry on the day of the event and they all did us very proud. We hada wonderful afternoon’s entertainment, listening to all the amazing talentthat the TLC Group has to offer. Eventually, after a nervous wait, the winnerswere announced. We were so proud when our very own Derek Healy was theoverall winner and Mary Brennan came second. Well done Derek and Mary!

Each of them had a little interview with Activity Coordinator Noel, which had us crying with laughter, especially when Granny Deignaninterrupted with her comments! The three judges had a really hard decisionto make at the end but Helen O’Neill from 2nd floor was crowned thewinner. were blessed with the weather as it stayed nice and dry all day. We stoppedoff half way in Roscrea in a lovely Hotel called Rackett Hall. There was scones, pastries and tea waiting for us. When we had our fill we hopped back ontoour bus and before we knew it we arrived to Bunratty Castle. We took ourtime walking round looking at all the old thatch roofed houses, read thestories on the walls of the history behind the castle and sat in the gardensenjoying an ice-cream. We walked around the heritage trail and seen somefarm animals and old churches. There is a lovely pub inside the grounds of thecastle were we had our dinner and a pint. We decided to stop off at RackettHall on the way back to break up the trip. Again the food there was fantastic. It was a great day for all and we will definitely do it again soon.
