The 2018 Civil Registra-tion Month (CRM) celebration with the theme, “#napapanahongCRVS” officially kicked off in Guimaras with an information caravan and quiz bee competition on February 1, 2018.

The Philippine Statistics Authori-ty (PSA) - Guimaras conducted a quarterly Labor Force Survey (LFS) in ten (10) identi-fied sampled-barangays with 12 Enumera-tion Areas (EAs) in the province on January 8 - 30, 2018.

ThesaidtenbarangayswereDara-gan,DagsaanandSanFernandointheMu-nicipalityofBuenavista;Alaguisoc,Hoskynand San Miguel in Jordan Municipality;likewise, Brgy. Aguilar and San Enriquewas chosen in San Lorenzo Municipality;Brgy.CanhawaninNuevaValenciaandBrgyAyanganinSibunagMunicipality.

Everybarangayhasoneenumer-ation area except for SanMiguel that has3EAsandamongthepresentedbarangays,onehundredninetytwo(192)householdswere identified sample for the said pro-gram.

The LFS activity is a nationwidequarterly survey for households conduct-edbythePSAtogatherdataonthedemo-graphicandsocio-economiccharacteristicsofthepopulation.

Moreover, the importanceof theprogramistoprovideaccurateinformation

as basis for the formulation of policiesand programs on creation and generationof gainful employment and livelihood op-portunities; reduction of unemploymentand underemployment; and enhance-ment of thewelfare of aworking person. Meanwhile, the PSA- Guimarasexplained that the said survey will help

The contest is also a venue forthe preparation on the regional level quizbeecompetitionasoneoftheactivitiesofthe region in commemorating the CRM.

In preparation for the wholemonth celebration, the PSA- Guimarasalso prepared series of exciting activitiesfor the month of February such as masswedding of five municipalities; mobileregistration; exhibit of Guimaras Vital sta-tistics and; oratorical and poster makingcontesttostudentswhoarewillingtojoin.

PSA- Guimaras launches 2018 AWRS The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Guimaras Provin-cial Statistical Office launched the 2018 Agricultural Wages Rate Survey (AWRS) January round in the province. The AWRS aims to determinethe national and regional averages onwage rates by type of labor for the dif-ferent farm operations, generate gen-der-based data for wage rates, anddeterminetheextentofwomen’spartici-pationinagriculturalproductionactivities.AWRSisformerlyknownastheAgricultur-alLaborSurvey (ALS), itwas renamedtogivedistinctiontothesurveyasastatisti-calactivitythatfocusesmainlyongenerat-inginformationonthecostoffarmlabor.

Moreover, the survey aims toestablishbasisforcomputingtheaveragewagerate inagricultureandsubsequent-ly, a compositewage rate index for fouragriculturalcommodities:palay,corn,co-conut,andsugarcane,however,AWRSun-dertakings inGuimarascoverspalayonlyfor it is themajor crop of the province.Importantdata itemstobegatheredoutofthesurveyincludethedailywagerateoffarmworkersbycropandbysex;wagerateof farmworkersbycrop,bybasisofpaymentandbyfarmactivity;numberofman-daysperhectarebycrop,byfarmac-tivity,bythesourceoflabor,bysex;thedis-tributionofhiredworkersbytermsofpay-ment,bycropandbysex;anddistributionoffarmhouseholdsemployinghiredwork-ersby farmactivity,by crop,andby sex.

Meanwhile, in five chosen ba-rangaystherearethreeidentifiedsamplehouseholdseachforthesurveyoratotaloffifteenhouseholdsinthewholeprovince.Cabungahan, Sapal and M. Chavez inthe Municipality of San Lorenzo and;Brgy. Ayangan and Sebaste in the Mu-nicipality of Sibunag are the identi-fied barangays for the said survey.The survey operation started onJanuary 10, 2018 and will last un-til March 31 of the current year.PSA-Guimaras issued this press releasefor wider dissemination of informationaboutthesurveyandtoelicitsupportandcooperationoftheGuimarasnonsforthesuccess of the activity. /PSA-Guimaras.

Allmunicipalitiesof theprovincewereconsideredasPrimarySamplingUnits(PSUs)andwillbecoveredintheULEactiv-ityinwhich,alloperationalestablishmentswithinthescopeandcoverageof thesaidactivity in theprovincewillbevisitedandthe owners/managers or representativeswill be interviewed.

This comprehensive surveywill cover a total of 67 sampled-baran-gays in Guimaras: 21 from the munici-pality of Buenavista, 16 from Nueva Va-lencia, and 10 each from Jordan, SanLorenzoandSibunag.

Likewise, 861establishmentswillbe covered for the said activity wherein,309 from themunicipality of Bueniavista,371 from Jordan, 116, 36, and 29 estab-lishments were from Nueva Valencia, SanLorenzoandSibunag.

The information thatwill be col-lectingarebusinessname,registeredname,franchise, business address, contact num-bers,economicand legalorganization,na-tionalityofownerormajoritystockholder,maineconomicactivity,totalemployment,totalnumberofpaidemployees,totalassetsinrange,yearstartedoperation,nameandaddressofmainofficeandparentcompany,and list of branches.

Meanwhile, all data gatheredare highly needed in the formulation ofconcrete plans and programs that areresponsive to the needs of the people,thus, PSA- Guimaras is appealing for thesupport of the owners and managers ofall operating establishments in the prov-ince to give truthful and complete infor-mation to our trained enumerators andassuredly, the information provided tothe PSA will be treated highly confiden-tial. /PSA-Guimaras.

Junior & Senior students show off their talents in the Orator-ical, Poster Making Contest Six senior high and seventeen junior high school students showed their creativity in oratorical and poster making contest during the Civil Registration Month (CRM) culminating activity spearheaded by the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA)–Guimaras in partnership with the five Municipal Civil Registrars of the province.

YnaHeartzelGegalao,aseniorhighofNuevaValenciaNationalHighSchoolout-ranked other contestants in the oratoricalcontestwithherpieceentitled“ActofCRVS.”

“She dreamt to be a teacher, she strived for excellence and graduated as Magna Cum laude in a prestigious Univer-sity. But she was not able to take the Licen-sure Examination for Teachers. She was an achiever in most of her endeavor but she was not able to materialize her ultimate dream because SHE is a HE in her Birth Certif-icate,”sheexpressedexcellentlyasshede-liveredinfrontofthejudgesandaudience.

Next up was Allester John Gal-larda from Jordan National High School,who distinctively delivered a pieceentitled “Sa mga dahon ng Talaan”.

“Anong pakay ng marunong? Anong nais ng mayaman? Anong layun-in ng bayani’t anong hanap ng mata-pang? Sa iisang talaan tayong lahat ay makikinabang,” Gallarda posed the ques-tionsbeforehefinallyendeduphispiece.

Third-place Kyle Sumagaysay,a senior high at Supang National HighSchool,hadan impressivegistofhisown.

“Sa akin pong pananaw ay ang temang ‘#napapanahongCRVS’ ay ang unang hakbang sa pagkaroon ng mabilis at madaling pagkuha ng impormasyon. At lalo pang mapalawak ang saklaw ng kanilang Gawain dahil sa pagiging modern ng ating CRVS” he pointed out.

His speech ended witha great reflection on how theyear’s theme really meant to him.

“May kasabihan lahat nang mal-aking bagay ay nagsisimula sa maliit na bagay. Hindi man malaki ang kontribusyon sa ngayon ngunit makikita natin ang epek-to nito sa darating na panahon,”hestated.Continuedonpage5

PSA- Guimaras to hold 2017 ASPBI and SICT 3rd level training

The Philippine Statistics Au-thority (PSA) – Guimaras will conduct the third level training of the 2017 An-nual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) and Survey of Infor-mation and Communication Technology (SICT) on April 3-4, 2018, to equip the staff/enumerators with the knowledge on the official concepts and to pre-pare them for the enumeration period.

The ASPBI is a continuing ac-tivity of the PSA- Guimaras that aimsto provide information on the levels,structures, performance and trends ofeconomicactivitiesof the formal sectorintheentireprovincefortheyear2017.

17 Orphans receive gifts from PSA-Guimaras Seventeen orphans from Good Shepherd Fold Academy Inc. (GSFAI) received a pair of school shoes and undergarments from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Guimaras during the 2018 Civil Registration Month (CRM) Culminating Activity in the Province on February 28, 2018.

AspartofPSA-Guimaras’socialresponsibility,agiftgivingactivityforGSFAIorphanswasconductedtoprovideassistancetotheneedystudents.

ThisisthefourthyearthatthePSA-Guimarasconductedsuchgiftgiving,feedingprogramandwork-shopsteachingGSFAIchildrenofsomeartprojectusingrecycablematerials.

TheorphanchildrenwerenotluckyenoughtolivewiththeirparentsbuttheywerefortunatetohaveGSFAIinstitutionthatcaredforthem,passionatelytrainedtheminplayingmusicalinstruments,developedandsharpenedtheirskillsespeciallyinplayingviolin,drum,andguitarandaboveallgavethemtheopportu-nitytobeinschool.

Orphaned valued teachings

TheorphanedchildrenalwaysvaluetheteachingsofGSFAIandthelittlethingssharedbyPSA-Guimaras,the overwhelming joy they felt in their hearts were expressed throughsongs that delighted the audience and contestants during the 2018 CRM CulminatingActivitywhereintheyrenderedthedoxologyandseriesofspecialnumbersthattrulyentertainedthem.

TheexistenceofGSFAIsinceJuly8,1946anditsexcellentorphanagemanagementwhichnurturedeverychildtohaveabetterfutureinspiredthePSA-Guimarastochoosethemtobetherecipientoftheirsocialservices./PSA-Guimaras.

100 couples exchage vows during the free mass wedding of Jordan Municipality

The Philippine Statistics Author-ity Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office (PSA-Guimaras) strongly supported the his-torical mass wedding of 100 couples of the Jordan Municipality on January 10, 2018.

The exchange of vows between100 couples is a symbolic representationofthetown’s100thyearofexistencewiththe theme “Sandaang Pagmamahalan,Pinagtibay sa Sandaan Taong Pagdiri-wang ng Bayan ng Jordan”. It was solem-nized by Hon. Ruben Corpuz, MunicipalMayor of Jordan which, proudly conveysthe efforts and initiatives of the Munic-ipal Civil Registrar’s Office with the sup-port of the local government officials.

Themasswedding isayearlyac-tivity led by theMunicipal Civil RegistrarsofeverymunicipalityaspartoftheannualcelebrationoftheCivilRegistrationMonth,however, what makes this activity specialforJordanthisyearisthat100coupleswereabletoavailoftheall-outpaidexpenses.”

PSC-Guimaras convene to formulate 2018 policy agenda The Provincial Statistics Commit-tee (PSC)-Guimaras created by the ProvincialDevelopment Council of the province as its special committee through PDC ResolutionNo. 33 series of 2017 as endorsed by the De-velopment Administration Committee thruResolution No. 03 series of 2017, con-vened on March 26, 2018 to discuss andformulate 2018 policy agenda for adoption.

The said policy agenda focusedon: thegenerationofprovincial economicindicators thataredeemednecessaryanduseful forplanningandpolicy formulationoftheprovince;andtothestatisticalactiv-itieswhich the committee shall initiate toaddress the data gaps and the emergingissuesandconcernsatthelocalstatisticalsystem

Addressing the data gaps; stan-dardizationofLGUadministrativeformsforadoptionofLGU-Guimaras;conductoftrain-ing needs assessment; capacity building;establishment of databases and web-site in partnership with SUCs/Academe;formulationoftheProvincialStatisticalDe-velopmentProgram;generationofthecoreprovincial indicators; data support to thepublication “The Countryside in Figures:Guimaras; and the planning of activitiesfor the 29thNSMwere among the policyagenda formulated and approvedby the PSC for adoption this year.

Thecommitteeapprovedthesaidpolicyagendathruresolutionno.2seriesof2018 and the body agreed to schedulethe discussion of activities lined up everyquarterbeginningatthesecondquarterun-tilthefourthquarteroftheyearaccordingto its urgency and priority needs.

The PSC created a Techni-cal Working Group (TWG) to review theadministrative forms used in business li-censingpermitsofthefivemunicipalitiesof

Guimaras province for standardizationand possible inclusion of more economicindicators and for adoptionof the LGUs once approved.

40 couples tied a knot during the free mass wedding of the Municipality of Nueva Valen-cia officiated by Mayor Emmanuel Galila on January 29, 2018, in time for their Founda-tion Anniversary.

39 couples joined together as one during the free mass wedding of the Municipality of Sibunag officiated by Mayor Luben Vilches.

36 couples availed the free mass wedding of San Lorenzo Municipality officiated by May-or Ninfa Gajo on February 19, 2018.

A total of 34 couples exchanged vows during the free mass weeding of the Municipality of Buenavista officiated by Mayor Eugenio Reyes on February 14, 2018.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI)of Guimaras reached its peak in themonth ofMarch, the highest price indexrecorded for the first quarter of 2018.

The CPI all items increased toan index value of 149.6 higher by 0.5percentage points compared to its priceindices last January 2018 with 148.4

The increase was driven by Al-coholic Beverages and Tobacco with196.8 percent; housing, water, electric-ity, gas and other fuels with 130.8 per-cent and; transport with 122.2 percent.

Moreover, during the month ofFebruary, three (3) commodity group re-cordedincrementonprices:alcoholicbever-agesandtobaccowith190.4percent;cloth-ingandfootweargot144.4percentand;furnishing,householdequipmentandrouting-maintenaceofthehousehas133.6percent. However, six (6) commodi-ty group posted stable price indices forthe first quarter of 2018 such as health;

communication; recreation and culture;education; and restaurants and miscel-laneous items with 134.3, 108.6, 181.2,145.8 and 126.1 percent respectively.

The inflation rate in the prov-ince stood at 3.3 percent on the last

month of the first quarter which is high-er than the inflation rate a month ago.

Meanwhile, the purchas-ing power of the peso during the firstquarter of the year remained un-changed at 0.67 percent. /PSA Guimaras

The Guimaras covered 55.03 percent of births of the total Vi-tal Events in the Province for the month of January to March 2018.

AccordingtothePhilippineSta-tisticsAuthority (PSA) -Guimaras, thedatageneratedfromtheDecentralizedVital Statistics System (DVSS) revealedthat, the total vital events reached at1,363 for thefirstquarterof theyear.

The marriages registeredat400whichaccounted29.35percent,deathsat213shared15.63percentandbirthsat750comprised55.03percent. ChiefStatisticalSpecialist,Neli-daB.Losareexplainedthatforthepastthreemonths,therecordedbirthswereatpeakinJanuary,at36.67percentofthe 55.03 percent births registered. Moreover March con-tained 35.73 percent and Feb-ruary had the least registeredbirths accounting 27.60 percent.

The results also revealedthat the highest provider of the to-tal number of births in the pro-vince is the Municipality of Jordanwhich acquires 65.07 percent nextis Buenavista with 17.73 percent.

Likewise, Nueva ValenciaMunicipality pooled 12.40 percent

ofthetotalnumberofbirthsandtheleastcontributorsareSibunagandSanLorenzowith2.80and2.00percent,respectively.

Moreover, of the total men-tioned number of vital statistics of theProvince, itshowedthatJordangotthehighest number of important eventswhichaccountedat58.94percent,nextis Nueva Valencia with 18.02 percent.

Buenavista shared 15.58percent and the lowest splits areSan Lorenzo and Sibunag with 4.61and 2.85 percent, accordingly. The PSA also stated thatthe vital statistics are derivedfrom the information obtained atthe time of occurrences of vi-tal events and their characteristics.

The vital acts and events arethe births, deaths, fetal deaths, mar-riages, and all such events that havesomethingtodowithanindividual’sen-tranceanddeparturefromlifetogetherwiththechangesincivilstatusthatmayoccur to a person during his lifetime.

The system begins with theregistration followed by the pro-cessing and controlling of vital re-cords and ends with the compila-tion and analysis of vital statistics./ P S A - G u i m a r a s .
