The Tie That Binds… As we celebrate America’s independence this July 4 th , I want to say that I’m proud to be an American and live in this great land. As I recall our history and look to the future, I have mixed feelings about the direction we are headed. We have a very rich and wonderful history that has brought us to where we are today. The past has not been perfect. There have been mistakes made and injustices practiced. But I’m still glad that I was born and raised in America. I’ve been able to accomplish my dreams and goals to the best of my abilities. However, I worry that our leaders we’ve placed in office have lost their vision and direction. Our dreams have faded and our light does not shine as bright as it once did. We need to make it shine again in our hearts and lives. It seems that our standard of values is out of focus to a great degree. To illustrate we pay professional athletes 5 to 10 million dollars a year, and we pay school teachers $40 to $50 thousand a year. Movie stars earn millions of dollars a year, and those who work in public service labor for a bare living. You can name other examples. We also have a crisis in race relations, a great divide in the religion that we profess, and also in what we call the American Dream. I wish I had an answer or a solution to our problems. It seems that no one is listening. We need to get back to the faith of our fathers, back to the sure foundations upon which this nation was built many years ago. So, with this said I haven’t given up. I still believe in America and our flag that waves over the land of the free and the home of the brave. Can our motto once again be: “In God we Trust!”? I believe that this verse from 2 Chronicles 7:14 is the direction we need to go. It says, “if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and forgive their sins, and will heal their land.” Have a safe and happy Independence Day! As we celebrate America’s independence this July 4th, I

want to say that I’m proud to be an American and live in

this great land. As I recall our history and look to the

future, I have mixed feelings about the direction we are

headed. We have a very rich and wonderful history that

has brought us to where we are today. The past has not

been perfect. There have been mistakes made and

injustices practiced. But I’m still glad that I was born

and raised in America. I’ve been able to accomplish my

dreams and goals to the best of my abilities.

However, I worry that our leaders we’ve placed in office

have lost their vision and direction. Our dreams have

faded and our light does not shine as bright as it once

did. We need to make it shine again in our hearts and

lives. It seems that our standard of values is out of focus

to a great degree. To illustrate we pay professional

athletes 5 to 10 million dollars a year, and we pay school

teachers $40 to $50 thousand a year.

Movie stars earn millions of dollars a year, and those

who work in public service labor for a bare living. You

can name other examples.

We also have a crisis in race relations, a great divide in

the religion that we profess, and also in what we call the

American Dream. I wish I had an answer or a solution

to our problems. It seems that no one is listening. We

need to get back to the faith of our fathers, back to the

sure foundations upon which this nation was built many

years ago.

So, with this said I haven’t given up. I still believe in

America and our flag that waves over the land of the free

and the home of the brave. Can our motto once again

be: “In God we Trust!”?

I believe that this verse from 2 Chronicles 7:14 is the

direction we need to go. It says, “if my people, which are

called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray,

and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then

will I hear from heaven, and forgive their sins, and will

heal their land.”

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

The Lord has blessed us

with rain and sunshine this

Spring and Summer. Our

garden at First Christian

Church-Burnet is growing

in leaps and bounds.

FCC Burnet Disciples Men met in June on the

3rd Saturday for Breakfast. It was the first

time since February. We had a good group

there and discussed if we should have

luncheons or dinner meals instead of

Breakfast. Consensus was to continue with

Breakfast, but have a dinner planned for a future date.

Also discussions on a study program that we can do. The

General Conference of Disciple Men are rolling out a

Men’s Spirit guide called “The Jesus Way”. We will order

the literature and have a brief study time for each time

that we meet. The Jesus Way equips men to live life in

a way that reflects the principals and priorities Jesus

Himself lived by. The Jesus Way is based on the concept

of cultivating the individual’s identity as a follower of

Christ, but also the impact of having a cohort of

companions on the journey to a mature faith. Greg

Alexander, director of Disciples Men, has had the notion

of just such a curriculum for years, even predating his

decades as regional minister in Kentucky.

THE FATAL SEQUENCE The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been

200 years. These nations have progressed through this

sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith

to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to

abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness

to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence back

into bondage. - Author Uncertain.

Church services and weekly meetings are slowly beginning to resume all over our Community. With careful monitoring of the Covid-19 status, all of the proper safety precautions will be taken.

Blessings and love from

Disciples Women Life in the time of COVID-19: We know that these are times that send us into deep reflection while trying to deal with

the practical day-to-day changes. Like ministries everywhere Disciples Women is taking very seriously the call to ‘flatten the curve’ by social distancing, restricting travel and gathering in groups of 10 or less. We hope that you are taking this advice seriously as well. In the meantime, we are taking care of essential functions only. We are not physically present in the office. Please be patient with any delays you have in shipping and the need to leave a message for us to return your call. Our work continues and we pray for all of you knowing that your ministry continues as well though they all look very different now. Blessings and peace from Disciples Women Staff.

Congratulations
