UNLOCKING CONFERENCE VIDEOS BY DOI/MFID FOR SOFTWARE PROJECT COMMUNITIES.

// INTRODUCTION

Scienti c audio-visual media such as videos of research experiments, computer

animations or conference recordings have become an important part of scienti c

communication due to the complexity of modern research in the elds of Science and

Technology. These media contribute to a better understanding and discussion of the

research because they can describe dynamic phenomena which cannot be precisely

detailed in words and pictures and let us explore environmental phenomena more

e ciently.

// THE VALUE OF SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE RECORDINGS

Traditionally, the results presented at conferences are published in proceedings. Today,

in many cases those talks are also being recorded and published after the conference.

These videos are an important part of scienti c communication and also cultural

heritage items. Let us make those conference recordings searchable, citable and long-

term preserved.

// THE TIB AV-PORTAL

The TIB AV-Portal provides access to high grade scienti c videos from the elds of

technology/engineering, architecture, chemistry, information technology, mathematics

and physics in English and German.

// GEOSCIENCES-RELATED COLLECTION

> Content from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Information Technology,

Engineering and Architecture

> Conference recordings, including Geoinformatics, e. g.:

            > FOSS4G 2013, 2015, 2016

            > FOSSGIS 2011–2016

            > FrOSCon 2014, 2015, (2016 coming soon)

> Historical educational videos (IWF))

// INNOVATIVE SERVICES IN-VIDEO SEARCHING

Innovative search and analysis tools improve the search for and the re-use of scienti c

videos by enabling pinpoint access to individual video segments. Content-based lter

facets for search results enable the exploration of the increasing number of videos.

SCIENTIFIC CREDIT BY DOI-BASED CITATION

All videos are assigned by Digital Object Identi ers (DOI). By using media fragment

identi er (MFID) video segments can be cited as easily as a chapter or a page in a book.

As a result videos can be published in a scienti cally sound way and be linked via DOIs

to other research work like the corresponding article or an expedition documentary and

its  eld notebook.

UPLOAD AND PRESERVE YOUR SCIENTIFIC VIDEOS

The TIB AV Portal is the ideal, reliable infrastructure for the long term preservation and access to scienti c videos. Please contact TIB if Videos can be easily uploaded @ AV.TIB.EU

The primary purpose of the signature is to graphically identify the Corps and its FieldOperating Activities in a uniform andcommunicative way.

All signatures are a combination of theCorps Mark and the name which describesa specific Field Operating Activity. Noadditional elements, typography or graphicdevices should ever be added to the basicsignature configuration.

Corps Signature The Corps Signature consists of the markand the Corps of Engineers name set in the Helvetica Medium type face. Both elements are placed flush to the left. Thissignature is to be used as the graphic identifier on those items common to theentire Corps of Engineers.

Division, District and other Field OperatingActivity SignaturesThere are individual signatures for the Officeof the Chief of Engineers and for each FieldOperating Activity in the Corps. The CorpsSignature is the principal graphic identifier tobe used by these activities on all publications, signage, vehicles, etc.The individual Field Operating Activity

signature is a modification of the basicCorps Signature. It is formed by placing the name of the particular FOA below theCorps name. FOA names are set in Helve-tica Regular, a lighter-weight type face sothat, while emphasis remains on the Corpsname and mark, each Corps activity isidentified in its own unique identification signature and, at the same time, is clearlyrelated to the Corps as a whole.There are no other acceptable versions

of the signature. Do not alter the typogra-phy, mark size, or general configuration ofthe signature. Use original reproduction artwork found in Chapter 9 of this manual at all times. Avoid second generation reproduction.

For detailed guidance on the application or use of the signature, refer to the appli-cable sections of this manual. Contact theCorps Graphics Coordinator for advice and assistance on unique or special appli-cations of the signature.
