God wanted His people to worship Him, but they did not know how. God gave Moses special rules. These special rules showed what God is like. First, God said people should worship only Him. There is no one as good and powerful as God! God said not to make any statues to worship. God said not to treat His name as if it is not special. Then God said to rest on the seventh day because God rested after He made the world. These rules showed God’s people how to love and obey Him. Exodus 19:1–20:11; 31:18

BIBLE STORY FOR TODDLERSWhat is God like? God is powerful. He made everything and He is in charge. God is holy. He always does what is right. God wanted His people to worship Him, but they did not know how. God gave Moses special rules. These special rules showed what God is like. First, God said people should worship only Him. There is no one as good and powerful as God! God said not to make any statues to worship. God said not to treat His name as if it is not special. Babies Activities

LOOK IN THE BIBLEProvide hand-size Bibles for babies to hold and turn the pages. Open your Bible to Exodus 19. Show the Bible story picture and say the Gospel Gems in a soothing voice. Read the key passage card.SAY: God’s rules show us what He is like. Jesus always obeyed God’s rules. GOD TAKES CARE OF US. [Pray for the babies.]

SING A SONGSing to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” :“ We can know what God is like, God is like, God is like. We can know what God is like. We can read the Bible!”

SAY: Moses wrote down God’s rules in the Bible. God’s rules are good because He is good. GOD TAKES CARE OF US.

MAKE HANDPRINT ARTUse a paintbrush to paint a baby’s fingers and thumb with washable white paint. Paint a red heart on her palm. Gently press her palm onto paper, and then wipe her hands. Write I can love God on her paper with a marker. SAY: God is good. God’s rules show us what He is like. GOD TAKES

CARE OF US.

PLAY WITH A SHAPE SORTERAssist babies as they stack rings, sort shapes, or play with another favorite toy. Praise each baby’s attempt.SAY: [Baby’s name] played the game just right. God’s rules help us know what is right. GOD TAKES CARE OF US.

Check diapers, serve bottles if needed, and release babies to parents according to your church’s security guidelines. Give parents today’s big picture card. Repeat the Gospel Gems and Bible-learning activities for babies who stay a second hour.

Toddler Activities

CIRCLE TIME (5 MINUTES) Provide small Bibles for toddlers to handle. Say the Bible is God’s words. Read the key passage card and guide toddlers to say it. Open your Bible to Exodus 19. Show the Bible story picture as you tell the Bible story. Say the Main Point. Pray for the toddlers.

MAKE THE TEN COMMANDMENTSCut out two tablets from gray construction paper. Give each toddler 10 heart stickers to put on the tablet for each commandment. SAY: God gave Moses 10 rules so we would know how to love Him and others. Jesus always obeyed God. GOD TAKES CARE OF US.

PRACTICE SIGN LANGUAGEInvite toddlers to hug themselves for love. Show toddlers how to point to heaven when you say God. Guide toddlers to sign LOVE GOD as you say the words aloud.SAY: God is good, and He loves us. We should love God. GOD

TALK INTO TUBESProvide paper towel tubes for toddlers to speak into. Invite toddlers to repeat the Main Point after you, one word at a time.SAY: We can read God’s words in the Bible. God’s words are good. GOD TAKES CARE OF US.

TRANSITION ACTIVITY: SING A SONGSing to the tune “Ten Little Soldier Boys.” Count on your fingers. “ One and two and three commandments, four and five and six commandments, seven, eight, and nine commandments, ten commandments from God.”

PLAY OUT THE BIBLE STORYInvite toddlers to hold two books as if they are the stone tablets, and invite them to play out the Bible story.SAY: Moses carried the stone tablets with God’s rules down the mountain. People don’t always obey God’s rules, but Jesus always obeyed God. GOD TAKES CARE OF US.

WRITE ON PLAY DOUGHInvite toddlers to smash play dough into slabs. Give each toddler a craft stick for him to “write” on the tablets. SAY: GOD TAKES CARE OF US. God wrote His rules on two stone tablets. God’s rules are good.

Check diapers, serve a snack if needed, and release toddlers to parents according to your church’s security procedures. Give parents today’s big picture card to reinforce today’s Bible story, Main Point, or Gospel Gems throughout the week.
