The Prez SaysWow, another show completed. Our club volunteers are crashed in their favorite recliner, recuperating from the year of preparations and execution! To be more exact, it was the 54th Annual with no break; no skipped years. It was a very rare year with rain; well, actually an hour, or so, of sprinkles. But hey, what’s a little California Liquid Sunshine among car aficionados, other than a chance to use your chamois, and McGuires spray?

Sharon and I have been in the club for maybe 13 or 14 years, and have participated in one way, or another, for most of those years. I remember helping Frank Haney one year with the Swap Meet. He said I wasgoing to be rewarded by being “allowed” to be the chair for the Swap Meet for the next show.

After doing that for two or three years, I co-chaired the 50th Annual Car Show with Michel McGuire, with me definitely the junior partner/understudy. After Chairing and Co-Chairing the show from the 50th to 53rd with Ron Mintle, Ron and I convinced Steve Shapiro to be a Co-Chair for this year’s show. We promised him we would help him. I think he really believed us. By the way Steve, you really were the lead this year, but we were standing right behind you (as far behind you as we could manage to sneak).

It takes a whole year to plan, discuss, negotiate, and implement the show each year, and Steve has jumped into the role like he has been doing it for years. He’s really doing a great job, keeping a lot of the traditions, and adding a couple of great new twists – like selling Award Sponsor-ships, and allowing the car related companies, and other car clubs, to pick their winners.

It takes a lot of Chairs (not the 4-legged wood or metal types, although they helpat long meetings) to put together the car show. We have always been lucky to have great, and dedicated Chairs. It was said by many that the U.S. Army in WWII was really run, and the war won by the sergeants, and platoon leaders (the newly minted lieuten-ants trained and brought up to snuff by their sergeants).

Without the longtime Chairs Chuck Pedigo, Gary Hesser, Wayne King, Michael McGuire, Ron Mintle, Mike Simpson, Lee Johnson, Jeff Schumacher, Les von Nordheim, Bill Kemper, and Leo Romero, and Chairs newer to the game Mike and Jodi Williams, Doug Campbell, Kathy Hesser, and Greg Eberhardt, we wouldn’t have had such a well-run, hugely successful, and admired Fallbrook Annual Car Show.

It’s the sergeants that make it happen! It is all the Chairs and their assistants and volunteers that make the show great. Thank you for such a great annual event! Fallbrook applauds and thanks you. You make the FVCC stand tall.

Our 54th Car ShowNeither Sleet or Snow will cause us to cancel our car show, but rain did put a little damper on it. The show has always been Rain or Shine, but there are a lot of vintage car owners that do not like to take their cars out in the rain. So as we expected, we probably had less than 300 cars this year.

Which still wasn’t bad. We had some great cars, and as always, quite a variety. And we were especially happy with how many brass era cars came. As usual, they are so much fun to see, and it always draws an admiring crowd.

The opening ceremonies included the presentation of colors by the ROTC, and both the national anthem and America the Beautiful sung by Grace Wade. Unfortunately the weather caused the cancellation of the flyovers.

Restoration Road was a success. One of the highlights was pin-striper, Robert Gagnon, demonstrating his amazing skill on Shoe’s car. He is a true artist.

With the judging simplified and with sponsored classes, the judging was easier, quicker, and the tallying was finished sooner than ever before. Bev and Doris did it all by themselves instead of needing a roomful of ladies as we have had in the past.

Our featured cars were great. What an assortment of hot rods and custom cars.

In general, the show ran very smoothly and everyone had a good time.

Photos of the car show will soon be posted on the website.

R.O.M.E.O.Retired Old Men Eating Out

The ROMEO Lunch group met at Siggy’s in Murrieta on Thursday, May 16th . But is was raining rather hard that morning and the weather proved that most of the ROMEO guys were a bunch of wimps.

But the rain stopped just at lunch time.

Only three of us showed up. Since Arnold, Ron, and Doug are all pilots, the conversation was more about airplanes and flying than cars.

But Siggy’s has a very wide selection of food, and the serving size guarantees that we did not leave hungry.

Newport Dunes Resort- RV Group -

Eight club members recently took a short trip to Newport Dunes Resort. A fun time was had by all as they car-ferried across islands, walked the town, pier and back bay, and boat cruised the harbor viewing homes of the rich and famous.

They had lunch at the historic Cannery Restaurant and Farmhouse at Roger’s Botanical Nursery. Each day ended with potluck to share and laughs around the campfire.

The Lyon Air Museum, Marconi Auto Museum and Sherman Gardens rounded out the group’s activities.

Sounds like fun to You? Join us on our next excursion to Reno Nevada and HOT AUGUST NIGHTS, Aug 5-9th !!!

You don’t need an RV to join!
