Compiler’s Note

All praise is due to Almighty Allah, Durood and Salaams in

Abundance upon the Most Beloved of Allah’s Creation Hazrat

Muhammad Mustafa ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Peace and Blessings upon His Noble

Family, Distinguished Companions, and upon the Learned and

Righteous Ulama of Deen, who are the Representatives of the

Ambia, and upon all those who follow them with true sincerity and

devotion.

Just a few days ago, Ashraf Bhai Osman who is currently residing in

Dubai called me up, and mentioned that the team of

Ziaulmustafa.com have requested that I should prepare a few

pages on the life and works of Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer. This request he presented on behalf of

Maulana Riyaz-ul-Mustafa. I humbly mentioned to Ashraf Bhai that

due to the lack of time and immense commitments it is very

difficult for me to prepare too lengthy an article, but I gave my

word that I would attempt to write a few pages as an introduction

to this blessed personality whom I regard as one of my mentors in

life.

The following day I made this humble attempt using information I

already had in my possession, which included a few short articles

and many incidents which I personally had knowledge of in

regards to the life and works of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. I

personally hold Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer in very high esteem

and regard him amongst the ‘Chosen Servants of Allah’. I have

noticed his love for Murshidi Huzoor Taajush Shariah Allama Mufti

Mohammed Akhtar Raza Khan Qaadiri Azhari, and I have noticed

the love and Respect that Huzoor Taajush Shariah in-turn has for

Page 4: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

4

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. I have always believed and said

publicly as well; that Huzoor Aala Hazrat ◌ left behind many

blessed personalities, but two of those whom he left behind and

appointed as the Islamic Chief Justices for the Muslim System in

India, were Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ and

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌. I have always felt that these two

personalities have in-turn left behind for the same reason and for

the same purpose, Huzoor Taajush Shariah and Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer.

In brief, I commenced writing a few pages discussing the life of

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer and found myself going through many

pages very swiftly by the Grace of Allah and Blessing of the

Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, and before I knew it this book was prepared in

a short space of a few hours daily for five days. This I regard as the

blessing of my Grand Masha’ikh and the proof of the acceptance of

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer in the Court of Allah and His Beloved

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

In preparing this document I have extracted much of the

information from a manuscript in Urdu on the life of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer which was prepared a few years ago by one of

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s students, namely Mufti Abul Hassan

Al Qaadiri, who is currently serving as a Mufti at Darul Uloom

Amjadia in Ghosi. I must point out that even a book of this many

pages which initially was meant to be only a short essay, cannot do

justice to the personality and services of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer.

Page 5: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

5

I pray that this humble effort is accepted in the Court of Allah, and

is a means of benefit for those who read it. I pray that this book

serves as a means for my spiritual elevation in this world and as a

means for my salvation in the hereafter. I pray through the Wasila

of Huzoor-e-Akram ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that Allah affords me the opportunity to

remain always in the service of His Deen and in the service of these

Great Personalities who serve this Deen with total sincerity and

dedication.

I pray that Allah Almighty grants Huzoor Taajush Shariah and

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer i.e. the ‘The Shaykhain of this Era’

good health and long life. Aameen. I would like to thank all those

who have assisted in making this publication a success, especially

those who spent lengthy hours proofing and making valuable

suggestions to improve this document. My special thanks to

Brother Irshaad Ridawi or Netherlands, for designing the beautiful

cover and proofing; to Brother Shakeel Ahmed Razvi Amjadi of

Preston (UK) for his tireless efforts in setting and proofing; Brother

Tahir Raza Razvi of Colombo (Sri Lanka); Brother Luqmaan Aslam

Aziz Razvi of Blantyre (Malawi); Shaykh Omar of Durban (South

Africa) and not forgetting my wife for her efforts in proofing this

document on her her Murshid. Special Thanks to Haji Cassim

Goolam Rasool, Haji Mahomed Amod and Brother Zaheer Hoosain

and Brother Zainul Abideen Hoosen Razvi. I pray through the

Wasila of the Beloved Rasool that Allah rewards them all with

the best of rewards. Aameen

It is the blessing of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ that today

‘Ghosi’ is known as ‘Assembly of Ulama’, which is not Madinah,

but it is definitely ‘Madinatul Ulama’. In other words, it is

through the efforts of this great personality that Ghosi is giving

birth to scores of ‘Representatives of the Ambia’.

There is hardly a single Institute of the Ahl-e-Sunnat in India

today that does not boast a few students who have connection

to Ghosi.

Following In the Footsteps of His Blessed Father: Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer Hazrat Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri has

followed sincerely in the footsteps of his blessed father. In this

era, he is blessed with the virtue of having thousands of

students across the world who are serving the Ahl-e-Sunnat.

15

An Exalted Family

Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer hails from a

family of great and blessed personalities. His ancestors were

blessed and pious personalities and even the descendants of

this blessed family were well-known as the ‘Family of Maulana

Khayrud’deen ◌. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s ancestors, i.e.

the Family of Maulana Khayrud’deen ◌ arrived in Ghosi

towards the latter part of the Mogul era and settled in Muhalla

Kareemud’deen-pur. This family was blessed with a distinct

excellence over other families in Ghosi, due to the special

blessings upon them.

Distinct Nature Of This Family

1. One of the first distinct qualities of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer’s family is that continuously for twelve (12) generations

the succession of Aalims and Faadils has continued in it.

When Huzoor Sadrush Shariah’s ◌ eldest son Hakeem Shams-

ul-Huda ◌ was born, he said, ‘If this son of mine becomes an

Aalim, then it would mean for ten generations continuously

there have been Ulama in our family.’ Alhamdulillah, not only

was Hazrat Maulana Shaykh Hakeem Shams-ul-Huda ◌ an

Aalim, but his son Hazrat Maulana Qamr-ul-Huda was also an

Aalim and his son Maulana Naseem Amjadi is also an Aalim, and

with the exception of them, the other sons of Huzoor Sadrush

Shariah ◌ are Aalims, and their children too Ulama, so this

Page 16: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

16

succession of Ulama has thus continued today, for 12

Generations.

2. The blessing of this Khandaan (blessed family) did not only

spread in India, but its fragrance spread to many other parts of

the world, like Africa, America, Europe etc. The world has been

blessed by the services of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s family,

through the works of its illustrious personalities, such as;

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ in the form of Bahaar-e-Shariat;

Ra’ees-ul-Mufassireen Hazrat Allama Abdul Mustafa Azhari ◌ in the form of Jamia Amjadia Pakistan; Sultan-ul-Asaatiza

Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer, in the form of

students who are serving the Maslak throughout the Globe;

Shareh Bukhari Mufti Sharif ul Haq Amjadi ◌ in the form of

his Fatawa and annotation of the Bukhari.

3. The amount of Ulama, Fudala, Fuqaha and Asaatiza that are

present in this family currently, can rarely be found altogether

in one single family. Some of the names of those Ulama

presently in this family are as follows:

Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri

and reputed for other services to Deen-e-Mustafa ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص including

the establishment and the formation of three very important,

distinguished and blessed Institutes and Centres of Learning in

Ghosi, namely;

The above mentioned chart has been presented so that we may

better understand the knowledge and greatness of this

Khandaan and their generations of services to the Ahl-e-Sunnat

Wa Jama’at.

This will thus allow us to better honour, respect and value

Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

Huzoor Muhadith-E-Kabeer’s Parents

Before proceeding any further, I think it is of utmost

importance to briefly discuss the parents of Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer, so that the readers better understand the background

and blessed upbringing of this blessed personality. Both the

parents of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer were blessed

personalities and came from a line of knowledgeable ancestors.

They were both blessed with being born into pious and Allah

Fearing Households, which instilled in them the love for Allah

and His Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

When one examines the lives of the beloved parents of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer, one will better understand the manner in

which he was nurtured by his beloved mother and trained by

his beloved father. There is no doubt that pious parents bear

pious and blessed children. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is proof

of this.

28

His Blessed Father, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌

Faqih-e-Azam Hind, Sadrush Shariah Allama Qadi Muhammad

Amjad Ali ◌ was amongst one of the most prominent and

illustrious personalities of India.

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah, Badrut Tariqat Hazrat Allama Shah

Amjad Ali Aazmi the son of Hakim Jamaalud’deen, son of

Maulana Khuda Bakhsh, son of Moulana Khairud’deen was born

at a place known as Karimud’deen, which is situated in the

district of Ghosi, in the well known town of Azamgarh in India.

His father and grandfather were both renowned scholars in

Religious theology and expert specialists in Unani medicine.

When his grandfather, Hazrat Maulana Khuda Bakhsh ◌ went

to perform Hajj, he received the permission for the recitation of

Dala’il al-Khayrat in Madinatul Munawwarah from the Shaykh

Ad Dalaa’il. He was also a great Saahib-e-Karaamat. He received

his elementary education from his grandfather, thereafter

studying under the watchful eye of his elder brother Maulana

Muhammad Siddique ◌ . After completion of his elementary

studies, he was enrolled for higher education at the Madrassa

Hanafiya in Jaunpur. This was a very famous and reputable

Islamic University in that time.

There, he studied under the guidance of a very reputable and

distinguished Aalim-e-Deen of the time, Jaami’ Ma’qulat wa

Manqulat, Hazrat Allama Maulana Hidayatullah Khan Rampuri

Jaunpuri, who passed away in 1326/1908.

Page 29: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

29

Maulana Hidayatullah Khan ◌ was the student of the

personality, who was known for first inspiring the Movement

for Independence in India, namely; The Imamul Falsafa,

Mujahid-e-Jalil, Hazrat Allama Fazl-e-Haq Khayrabadi ◌. After

observing his immense wisdom and acumen, Ustaazul Asaatiza

Allama Hidayatullah Khan, counted him amongst his most

reputable students, which can be better understood from the

words of Allama Sayed Sulaiman Ashraf Bihari (Professor of the

Religious Faculty at Aligarh Muslim University):

‘Hazrat Ustaazul Asaatiza was kind and attentive towards all his

students, but he would place his special attention over three of

his students. He used to say;

‘I wish to take whatever is in my heart and pass it on to these three

students.’

(The 3 students being mentioned were; Maulana Muhammad

Siddique, Maulana Amjad Ali and Maulana Sulaiman Ashraf).

It is for this very reason that once his beloved teacher said as

followed regarding him:

‘I managed to find one (truly worthy) student and that too, in my

old age.’

After graduating and acquiring his degree, he was immediately

engaged as the Principal of Madrassa Ahl-e-Sunnat, which was

one of the most respected Madrassas in Patna, Bihar. The

excellence and repute of this Madrassa can be understood from

the fact that before the arrival of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌

Page 30: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

30

illustrious personalities like the distinguished student of Allama

Fazl-e-Haq Khayrabadi ◌, Allama Maulana Abdul Aziz Mantaqi

◌ and Hafizul Hadith Huzoor Muhadith-e-Surti ◌ held the

positions of Shaykh-ul-Hadith at this Madrassa.

The first book that he was asked to teach whilst at the Madrassa

was ‘The Hidaya Volume 2’. He explained the issues presented

therein proficiently and clearly, to such an extent that the

Ulama and all those present there were astonished.

The Manager of the Institute, Qazi Abdul Waheed awarded him

the responsibility of handling all the Educational Affairs of the

Madrassa. After the passing away of Qazi Abdul Waheed, he did

not remain there for too long. He then journeyed to Lucknow,

where he studied ‘Ilm-ut-Tibb’ for two years. After completion

of this course, he returned home and commenced serving the

people by starting a clinic. His clinic began to progress

successfully. When Huzoor Muhadith-e-Surti ◌ heard that

Sadrush Shariah ◌ had started practicing and had opened a

clinic for this purpose, he became very sad.

At this time, The Faqih of Faqihs of the Century, The Imam

amongst Imams, the Great Reviver of Islam, A’la Hazrat Imam

Ahl-e-Sunnat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan ◌ required the services

of a teacher at the Darul-Uloom Manzar-e-Islam. Sadrush

Shariah then left his clinic and proceeded to Bareilly. At

Bareilly, he first served as a teacher. When Huzoor Sadrush

Shariah intended to visit Bareilly Shareef, from Pilliphit,

Page 31: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

31

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Surti ◌ wrote a letter to A’la Hazrat,

Imam Ahmed Raza Khan ◌ asking him to inspire him to

continue in the field of Ilm-e-Deen. Within a few months,

Mujaddid-e-Deen-o-Millat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan ◌ arranged for Sadrush Shariah to reside permanently in Bareilly

Shareef. He was entrusted with many responsibilities by Imam

Ahmed Raza Khan ◌. Important affairs such as, The

Educational Affairs of Madrassa Manzar-e-Islam, The

management of Anjuman Ahl-e-Sunnat, The management of

the printing press, arrangement of manuscripts, proofing of

books that were being prepared for publishing, issuing Fatawa

and dispatching important postage were entrusted to him.

Due to his potential and his devotion and sincerity, Imam

Ahmed Raza ◌ looked at him with great respect, and due to

this, he had immense trust and faith in him. After

approximately fifteen years, he journeyed to Ajmer Shareef in

1343/1924 to take up the position as Principal at Darul Uloom

Mu’eenia Uthmania. He remained there until 1350 and

quenched the thirst of those who came in search of knowledge.

The most intelligent and bright students travelled from all

corners of the country to humble themselves before him,

quenching their thirst for true knowledge and wisdom.

Shaykh-ul-Ulama Allama Ghulam Jilani Ghoswi writes:

‘The standard of education at Darul Uloom Mu’eenia excelled to

such a high level, that it became famous all over. Students

Page 32: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

32

journeyed from the Northern Provinces, Bihar and Hyderabad

etc. to acquire knowledge from him, after hearing of his

manner of teaching. Those who lived in Ajmer Shareef say that

never before did they see such an atmosphere and environment

of learning which they saw in his era.’

The Roving Ambassador of Islam Allama Abdul Aleem Siddiqi

Meerati ◌ presented the contents to a syllabus which he

prepared, for correction and setting to Huzoor Sadrush Shariah

◌. Whilst delivering a discourse at the Annual Jalsa of

Madrassa Haafizia Sa’eedia, Maulana Habeebur Rahman

Sherwani paid tributes to the Allama Amjadi Ali ◌ as a person

and as a professional with these words:

‘There are only four or five teachers in the continent that I

regard as completely proficient and appointed on merit, and

Maulana Amjad Ali is amongst them. The fact that students are

becoming Faazils at his hands and acquiring certificates of merit

is clear evidence of his proficiency. He is not just a Maulvi by

name.’

When there was the need to appoint a Principal for Darul

Uloom Manzar-e-Islam, students were prepared and sent over

to him for lessons. Huzoor Hujjatul Islam Maulana Haamid Raza

Khan ◌ observed his manner of teaching from a distance.

After he had observed him teaching, he returned and said as

follows:

Page 33: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

33

‘When Maulana Amjad Ali was answering the students, it seemed

like a vast sea that in which waves (of knowledge) were rising.’

It is the blessing of the teaching of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ that those who are his students directly or indirectly can be

found throughout the globe today, propagating Islam. There is

probably not a single Madrassa or Darul Uloom in the Indo-Pak

sub-continent that does not have at least one teacher that has

not attained his blessings.

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ passed from this physical world

whilst on his journey towards Hajj in 1367 Hijri coinciding 1948.

He intended to make this journey together with Ghaus-ul-Waqt

Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌, but this was to be the last

journey of his physical life in this world. On arriving in Bombay,

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ became severely ill, and in this

illness, he journeyed into the hereafter on the 2nd of Zil Qaddah

1367 Hijri coinciding 7th December 1948.

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ blessed his beloved son, Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer from a very young age. After reading the

above in regards to Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ then for those

like my humble self who know Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer well,

Page 34: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

34

and who have seen him, spent time with him and travelled with

him, they will know that undoubtedly he is the living example

of his beloved father in every way. He is the walking example of

the life of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌.

His Blessed Mother

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s blessed mother Muhtarama

Haajra Saaheba ◌ was also a very blessed and pious

personality, who groomed her children with love, instilling in

them the Fear for Allah, Love for Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, closeness to

the Awliyah and zest for knowledge of Deen.

Her father Hazrat Maulana Shah Abdul Lateef Rasheedi ◌ was

a renowned, great Aalim and Faadil. Her grandfather Hazrat

Maulana Azeemud’deen Saaheb ◌ was also a reputed scholar

of high stature.

In other words, she too hailed from a family of knowledgeable

personalities, and undoubtedly the fragrance for the love of

knowledge had rubbed onto her as well. She acquired her

education under the guidance and watchful eye of her beloved

father Hazrat Maulana Shah Abdul Lateef Rasheedi ◌.

Alhamdulillah, she was then blessed with marrying one of the

most blessed and illustrious personalities and Faqihs of the era,

namely; Huzoor Sadrush Shariah Allama Muhammad Amjad Ali

Aazmi ◌, so this in-turn caused her knowledge and wisdom to

increase by many folds, making her one of the most blessed and

Page 35: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

35

knowledgeable woman of the time. Her studies, her knowledge

and her powerful memory made her amongst the great Aalimas

and Faadilas.

She had an amazing memory and had memorised thousands of

laws of Shariah. Two great personalities whose names are

inscribed in the list of ‘Scholars of the Era’ and whose

knowledge and services are well known all over, namely; Faiz-

ul-Aarifeen Hazrat Allama Ghulam Aasi Piya Hassani Abul Ulai’

and Ra’ees-ul-Qalam Hazrat Allama Arshad-ul-Qaadiri ◌ were

her brothers. Virtue and blessedness were her wonderful

qualities. She was adorned with the qualities that every Muslim

woman should possess. She was a prime example of a pious

woman of Islam.

She was also set an example of being punctual in Namaaz and

Fasting; she was generous by nature and always patient, even in

testing times. She taught how to be kind to relatives and those

near and dear. She was forgiving, kind hearted and dedicated.

She trained and nurtured her children as Islam commands a

mother to.

She paid special attention to the Religious Education of her

children and grandchildren, she taught her sons and daughters,

and later even her grandsons, the recitation of Qur’an with

Tajweed, and even the basic Arabic and Persian books. In doing

so, she presented them to the Muslim world as future leaders

and Great Scholars of Deen.

Page 36: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

36

Her following children and grandchildren were blessed with

acquiring their basic knowledge from under her care and

supervision:

Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri

Ustaazi Hazrat Mufti Baha’ul Mustafa Qaadiri

Hazrat Mufti Thana’ul Mustafa Qaadiri

Mufti Jamaal Mustafa Qaadiri

Maulana Faizaan-ul-Mustafa Qaadiri

Maulana Abu Yusuf Qaadiri Azhari

Maulana Irfan-ul-Mustafa Azhari

Maulana Rehan-ul-Mustafa Qaadiri

With the exception of the above mentioned personalities, all

the children of the Qaadiri Manzil Household (i.e. family of

Sadrush Shariah) who became Aalims and Aalimas and Faadils

and Faadilas during her lifetime were blessed with acquiring

knowledge from her.

37

Kuliyatul Banaat Al Amjadia: This was her brainchild and a

dream come true. Hazrat Haajra ◌ noticed and observed the

need of the time. She realised that much attention was being

given to the education of males and institutes for males were

flourishing, but she saw that the girls of the Sunni Fraternity

were in a pitiful state and in disarray. She noticed that they

were not being educated systematically and there was no real

arrangement for their studies.

She noticed that ignorance with regards to even basic Islamic

information was becoming widespread in girls, and even their

Imaan and Aqida was been easily targeted and thus had become

weakened, due to lack of basic education.

The Honourable Lady therefore ordered the ‘Light of her Eyes’

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa to establish

an Institute for the Education of girls, and in doing so she

blessed him with her Duas, thereby making it a formula for

success.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer thus went all out to fulfil this

command of his beloved mother, and in 1981 the Insitute under

the name ‘Kuliyatul Banaat Al Amjadia’ became a reality.

It gave hope to the daughters of the Ahl-e-Sunnat and thus

commenced the sequence of knowledge for the daughters of the

Ahl-e-Sunnat.

This institute is serving today the Ummah in a beautiful

manner, empowering our daughters with the gift of Knowledge

of Deen, making them propagators of True Islam wherever they

go.

To date thousands of girls have qualified at this institute

carrying with them the lamp of guidance to hundreds of

thousands of mothers and sisters.

Sad Demise: The Mother of the Era, This Noble and Blessed

Mother of the Ahl-e-Sunnat passed from this world on the 29th

of Rajab 1415 coinciding 1st January 1995. She is resting towards

the right of the footside of the Mazaar of Huzoor Sadrush

Shariah ◌. Allah keep her holy grave illuminated always!

Aameen

His Early Education

He attained his basic knowledge under the watchful eye of his

beloved father, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌. Even during this

tender age, the brightness of wisdom, intellect, and

understanding, discussing and debating could be found in his

blessed personality. The reality of this, even Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer himself acknowledges as a blessing upon him.

He says, “Once whilst I was being taught Surah Feel in Am’ma

Paara (Last Chapter of the Quran), I asked whether Ababeel

(swallows) referred to the same ones which we see and I asked

about what “Sij’jeel” was.”

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ explained this to Muhadith-e-

Kabeer and then Muhadith-e-Kabeer asked, “Are these the same

Page 39: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

39

swallows which bombarded the elephants and destroyed

them?” On hearing this Huzoor Sadrush Shariah was very

pleased and said,

“Insha Allah, This son of mine will be a very great Aalim in the

future.”

This was the level of Hazrat’s understanding and knowledge,

when he was just learning how to recite the Am’ma Paara. At

this tender age, not only was he just trying to understand the

alphabets and learn how to read the Quran, but his mind was

focusing on the words and verses of the Quran and trying to

understand the incidents in the Quran. The condition of his

courage was that at this young age, he was respectfully asking

such a question to a learned and great Giant of Islam like

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌.

He was querying from such a great teacher about whether the

Ababeel were not the same ones that we see flying and about

the meaning of the word “Sij’jeel”, whereas usually children

who are that young never think about what the word means or

which incident it refers to.

Actually they even find difficulty in paying attention to the

proper tajweed of how to pronounce the alphabets, let alone

them trying to understand the meanings of words they read.

Subhaan Allah! Even after being given an answer by Huzoor

Sadrush Shariah ◌ the young Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s thirst to

learn did not end. He still furthered queried about whether

Page 40: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

40

these were the same swallows that had bombarded and

destroyed the elephants. I am assuming that possibly he had

heard something about the destruction of Abraha’s army from

his beloved mother, when he was much younger, but the

intellect and excellent memory he possessed immediately

directed his mind to the incident of Abraha and the destruction

of his elephant army, the moment he was being taught how to

read Surah Feel. This alone shows his wisdom, powerful

memory and intellect, even as a child.

Today, most people don’t even remember things that have to do

with their daily lives. So many things people read in their prime

and yet after a week or so, it becomes difficult for them to

remember whether they dreamt it or read it.

Here, the memory and intellect and more so the interest and

zest for knowledge in the young Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer can

be seen. Also, the beautiful words of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah

that,

“Insha Allah, This son of mine will be a very great Aalim in the

future.”

This incident not only shows the power of his memory and his

intellectual genius, but also proves that he had been blessed

with studying under the guidance of his beloved father, Huzoor

Sadrush Shariah ◌. Before leaving on his second Hajj, Huzoor

Sadrush Shariah ◌ sent him to Nagpur to study under the

Page 41: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

41

watchful eye of Faiz ul Aarifeen Allama Ghulam Aasi ◌. Here

he studied the basic Arabic books under his care.

Then, in Shawwal 1369 Hijri, he enrolled at Jamia Ashrafiyah

(Mubarakpur) under the special care of Muhadith-e-

Muradabadi Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat Allama Shah Abdul Aziz

Mubarakpuri ◌. Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ chose him as one

of his blessed students and gave him very special attention,

teaching him and instructing him with complete attention. He

studied numerous books personally under the hand of Huzoor

Haafiz-e-Millat ◌. After Graduating in 1377 Hijri, Huzoor

Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ did not stop teaching him. He taught him

privately away from everyone else and blessed him with

exclusive special attention. Whilst studying at Jamia

Ashrafiyah, his amazing intellect and wit was prominent even

amongst his fellow classmates. He always attained the best

position in class compared to all his classmates. This was

because of his wit and intelligence and his desire to strive to

attain knowledge. Even his teachers acknowledged his

intellectual capacity.

Hazrat Allama Sayyid Shah Abdul Haq Saaheb ◌ once asked

Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌, “What is our young man (referring

to young Muhadith-e-Kabeer) studying?” Huzoor Haafiz-e-

Millat ◌ ecstatically proclaimed,

Page 42: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

42

“The amount of pleasure I get from teaching these special

sciences of knowledge to him (Allama Zia ul Mustafa), I would

not get in teaching a hundred other students.”

It must be also noted that the kind of teacher who has a special

zest for teaching finds it difficult to teach in a crowd of too

many students and he is never excited by huge crowds around

him, but when he finds a student with such powerful mental

and intellectual abilities, then he finds great pleasure in

training and teaching such a student, even though it may be for

a short space of time. Those who have true inner sight will

better be able to understand the deep secret when Huzoor

Haafiz-e-Millat said,

“The amount of pleasure I get from teaching these special

sciences of knowledge to him (Allama Zia ul Mustafa), I would

not get in teaching a hundred other students.”

In other words, the intelligence and effort that Muhadith-e-

Kabeer showed in his studies was more than that which a

hundred students put together would be able to show.

Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ would often be heard saying,

“Whatever I have attained from Huzoor Sadrush Shariah, I have

given all of it to Zia ul Mustafa”

Page 43: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

43

Continuation of Studies

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was still in the process of his basic

education when Huzoor Sadrush Shariah had to go out of town

for a while, so Hazrat’s uncle Hakeem Ahmed Ali took over his

studies for that time. He first asked, what book are you

learning? The young Muhadith e Kabeer replied by saying that

he was studying the second book of Urdu. He then queried if he

had already studied the first book of Urdu and Muhadith e

Kabeer mentioned that he had not. He said, ‘So then, why are

you studying the second book?’ The young Muhadith e Kabeer

said, ‘Abba Jee (My dear father) commanded me to’. On hearing

this, he said, ‘If Maulana Saaheb said so, then it is fine.’ He then

commenced studying this book and in a few short days, he

completed it.

This alone shows the acumen and intelligence of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer at such a young and tender age. He has

been blessed with such acumen, that even at this age and for

the remainder of his studies, there was no need for him to

follow the actual sequence of books in the course. If he read the

basic books, there was no need for him to follow up with the

next book as he would be able to read the ones thereafter

without any difficulty. It is for this reason that after completing

the second book of Urdu, there was no need for him to read the

third and fourth books as is recommended, but he was

immediately put into the basic Persian books, as he had become

Page 44: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

44

so fluent in reading the Urdu just by reading Book Two, that he

was now ready to commence Persian.

Muhadith-E-Kabeer In The Care Of Huzoor Faiz-

Ul-Aarifeen In Nagpur

After this time, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ became engrossed

in preparing for his second Journey to Hajj. He thus requested

Hazrat Allama Ghulam Aasi Piya ◌ to take Huzoor Muhadith e

Kabeer with him, and take charge of his education. Faiz-ul-

Aarifeen was the elder brother of Ra’ees-ul-Qalam, Qaa’id-e-

Ahl-e-Sunnat Hazrat Allama Arshad-ul-Qaadiri ◌, and the

maternal uncle (maamu) of Huzoor Muhadith Kabeer. He was a

mountain of knowledge and a Master in Syntax and all other

fields of Islamic learning.

During this time, Faiz-ul-Aarifeen ◌ was serving as the

Shaykh-ul-Hadith at Mufti Abdur Rasheed’s ◌ Jaamia in

Nagpur, which was called Jaamia Arabia. On this order of

Sadrush Shariah ◌ Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer accompanied

Faiz-ul-Aarifeen to Nagpur.

Huzoor Faiz-ul-Aarifeen intended to teach him ‘Muniyatul

Musalla’, but since Muhadith-e-Kabeer had not studied any

book which taught the manner of reading the actual Arabic text

(without the punctuation signs), Faiz-ul-Aarifeen who was

noted for his proficiency in teaching this, instructed Huzoor

Page 45: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

45

Muhadith e Kabeer for about two hours teaching him how to

recognise where and how the signs need to be placed.

He then taught him 4 to 5 pages of ‘Muniyatul Musalla’over a

period of time and by the time he had studied about 5 pages of

the book, Huzoor Muhadith e Kabeer became so well versed

with the rules of Arabic Grammar and the laws with regards to

the Arabic syntax that he understood the complexities of the

syntax and could now read the Arabic text without any

problem. He had committed to memory all the necessary rules

and could also apply it proficiently.

In this regard Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer personally states:

‘He (Faiz-ul-Aarifeen) taught me 4 or 5 pages of Muniyatul

Musalla, and he introduced me to all the principles of Nahw and

Sarf, After this I never found the need to ask anyone in regards to

the principles of Nahw and Sarf’ When he now began reading the text with fluency by himself,

then as per his acumen and Allah given intelligence, he would

complete many pages of Muniyatul Musalla, and thus soon

completed this entire book. Immediately after this, he moved

on to the famous Hidaayat-un-Nahw and Kaafiyah. He thus

attained proficiency and master in the fields of Sarf and Nahw

under the supervision of Faiz-ul-Aarifeen.

Huzoor Muhadith e Kabeer personally says, ‘Whatever I have

acquired in the field of Sarf and Nahw, I have acquired this

through the teaching and blessings of my beloved elder uncle

Hazrat Faiz-ul-Aarifeen ◌.

Muhadith-E-Kabeer In The Care Of Huzoor Haafiz-

E-Millat ◌

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer remained in the care of his Uncle

Allama Ghulam Aasi ◌ for two years, where he mastered his

basic education. He was now well versed with the principles of

Nahw and Sarf and was proficient in reading the actual Arabic

text. After this, and on recognising his high levels of thinking,

understanding, and his zest for knowledge at such a young age,

his uncle Qaa’id-e-Millat Ra’ees-ul-Qalam Munazir-e-Azam

Allama Arshad-ul-Qaadiri ◌ decided that the young Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer should be sent to further his studies and to

excel in this Science under the guidance of the blessed student

of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ and the personality who was

well-renowned for his indept knowledge and his piety and

virtue, and that was none other than Muhadith Mubarakpuri,

Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat Allama Shah Abdul Azeez ◌

He then requested his beloved sister to send Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer to Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ so that he may be

instructed by this great and blessed personality. The request

was accepted by his respected sister and in Shawwal 1369 Hijri

coinciding 1950; he presented himself at Daul Uloom Ahl-e-

Sunnat Ashrafiyah Misbah ul Uloom.

Page 47: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

47

Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat was a Possessor of great knowledge and

virtue. He was adorned with piety and the rays of guidance

emanated from him. The moment the Wali, Huzoor Haafiz-e-

Millat ◌ placed his sight on the young Muhadith-e-Kabeer, his

spiritual sight saw on the forehead of the newcomer the future

position that he would hold. He already recognised the

greatness and the future excellence of this young child.

He noticed the zest and the love for knowledge flowing through

the heart of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. He noticed his

intelligence, his virtue, his excellence and the signs of him

becoming a great personality himself in the future. On noticing

all this, Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ immediately cradled the

young Muhadith-e-Kabeer into the world of knowledge and

wisdom.

He blessed him with even more generosity as the young

Muhadith-e-Kabeer was the beloved son and the light of the

eyes of his Holy Murshid, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌.

From here on, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer only excelled in

knowledge, understanding, wisdom and piety. He spent his

entire study life under the care of Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ and those appointed by him to assist in grooming the young

personality to one day himself become Muhadith-e-Kabeer,

Mumtazul Fuqaha and Sultaanul Asaatiza. As a student, Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer spent most of his time sincerely being

educated, and at the same time, showed great respect and

honour for his Teacher, Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌.

Page 48: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

48

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer loves and honours Huzoor Haafiz-e-

Millat ◌ dearly. If this topic has to be discussed, I assume that

this will be a book by itself. We will end the discussion on

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s education here, as the detailed

explanation in this regard cannot be completed in this short

document.

I (Afthab Cassim) have noticed on numerous occasions the tears

and wetness of the eyes of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer when he

discusses his Ustaaz Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌

Nowadays, we find students who don’t even know how to truly

respect and honour their Teachers and Spiritual Masters. We

should learn from the love that Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer

possesses for his Beloved Teacher.

Page 49: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

49

The Teachers Of Ashrafiyah Misbahul Uloom In

That Era Were:

1. Ustaazul Ulama Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat Allama Shah Abdul

Aziz Muhadith Mubarakpuri ◌

2. Jaam’e Ma’qul Wa Manqul Hazrat Allama Abdur Rahmaan ◌

3. Allama-e-Zamaa Hazrat Allama Sulaiman ◌

4. Sultan-ul-Ulama Allama Hafiz Abdur Ra’oof (Student Hafiz-u-

Millat) ◌

5. Shaykh-ul-Ulama Allama Ghulam Jilani ◌

6. Sultanut Tadrees Hazrat Allama Abdul Mustafa Aazmi ◌

7. Bahr-ul-Uloom Allama Mufti Abdul Manaan Aazmi

8. Shaykh-ul-Maqulaat Maulana Zafar Adeebi Saaheb

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer generally only took one single

lesson or one book only from other teachers, and then all his

other studies were under the personal tutorship of Huzoor

Hafiz-e-Millat ◌, as Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat had already noticed

his passion for knowledge and thus decided to take it upon

himself to teach Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ found great satisfaction and

happiness in teaching Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. Once Hazrat

Allama Shah Abdul Haq ◌ asked Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ ‘What is the young man studying now?’ With much enthusiasm

Page 50: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

50

and jubilation, Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ exclaimed, ‘I am

teaching him ‘Umoor-e-Aam’ma’ alone, and the happiness I get

from teaching him, I would not get even from a hundred

students.’

Dastaar-E-Fadilat (Graduation As Faadil)

In brief, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer studies with complete

dedication under the guidance of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ and

through by the Grace of Allah and the blessing of the Beloved

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he qualified and graduated as Faadil in 1377 Hijri

coinciding 1957 during a brilliant graduation ceremony held at

the Darul Uloom Ashrafiyah Misbahul Uloom. The Turban of

excellence and virtue was tied on the head of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer by his beloved and distinguished teacher as

well as numerous other great Masha’ikh, Fuqaha and Ulama.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was very pleased on the day of his

graduation and at the same time was grateful to his teachers for

their efforts in educating him. In showing gratitude, Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer did not forget his beloveds.

He immediately purchased jalebi to the value of 51 paisa and

made the Esaal-e-Sawaab Faateha for all the Pious predecessors.

Mufti Shams-ul-Haq, the Rector and Principal of Jamia Imam

Ahmed Raza (Newcastle, South Africa) says: It was close to my

graduation, and myself and a few of my classmates presented

ourselves before Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer to take his advice.

Whilst advising us he said,

Page 51: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

51

‘Nowadays students spend thousands of rupees on sweetmeats

and make huge invitations, and make many of these things

necessary. All this becomes very wasteful, and this becomes

difficult upon the parents of the students. On the day of my

graduation, I only purchased 51 paisa Jalebi and made Faateha.

This was my total expense on that day.’

Looking at this example of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer also

teaches us about his simplicity and caution in regards to

wastefulness etc. Even today, you will find that he becomes

displeased when people spend wastefully, whereas they could

use the money for something more beneficial.

Hafiz-E-Millat’s Jubilation On Huzoor Muhadith-E-

Kabeer’s Graduation

Every student is pleased when he qualifies. This is a natural

instinct. However, if on the graduation of a student, the

Teacher shows immense signs of jubilation, then this is a great

blessing for that student. Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ was always

pleased during the graduation of his students, but he never was

as excited and jubilant during the graduation of anyone, as

much as he was during the graduation of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer.

In this regard, Hazrat Allama Mufti Mahmud Akhtar writes:

‘Faadil-e-Jaleel Maulana Tawakkul Hussain Hashmati mentioned

on numerous occasions: ‘once I had gone to visit at the

residence of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ and noticed that Allama

Page 52: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

52

Zia ul Mustafa Saaheb was in the verandah wearing a light rose

coloured turban and Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ had both his

hands on the shoulders of Allama Saaheb and saying something

to him very softly. When he (Muhadith-e-Kabeer) had left, I

presented myself before Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌, so Hazrat

said; ‘Maulvi Tawakkul! The best of the best students graduate

from my Madrassa, but the pleasure and happiness I feel by him

qualifying and graduating, I have not felt for anyone else,

because whatever Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ had blessed me

with, I have given all of it to him.’’

Further Studies In The Field Of Research And Ifta

After completion of his studies and graduation, when Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer was about to return home to Ghosi, he first

went to his beloved Ustaaz Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌, kissed his

hand as a mark of respect and with love and respect took his

permission to proceed home. Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ asked

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer what he would like to do and Hazrat

replied by saying that as Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ commanded. Huzoor

Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ then asked him to go home and to pass his

salaam to his dear mother and to then say that Hafiz Saaheb has

requested that she should permit you to study for one more

year. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer then respectfully took the

permission of his beloved Teacher and left for home. On

reaching Ghosi, he passed the Salaam of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat

◌ to his dear mother and then presented the request as well.

Page 53: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

53

His beloved mother immediately responded by saying that he

should do as Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ had commanded.

Whilst at home in Ramadaan, he received a letter from Huzoor

Hafiz-e-Millat which said that there was a need for an Aalim at

the Madrassa of Mufti Nazr-ul-Hassan Saaheb and if he wished,

then he would place him there (as a teacher). In reply to the

letter Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer wrote: ‘I do not wish to be a

labourer (employee) anywhere. I am only studying for the sake

of serving the Deen.’

After this letter, he had not received any other other

communication from Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌. Hence, on the

10th of Shawwal, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer went to Darul

Uloom Ashrafiyah to take the blessings of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat

◌.

After completion of his discussions with the teaching staff, he

addressed Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer and said, ‘I received your

letter, but I was not able to understand what you were trying to

say?

If you are trying to say that I will not be a labourer (i.e. I will

not work for anyone), then this is completely correct. An Aalim

should not be a labourer (for anyone). However, if your aim of

saying this means that you will not take a salary, then listen

carefully! A man can never truly serve the Deen if he does not

fulfil the necessary needs of his body.

Page 54: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

54

It is for this reason that we refer to this (salary) as ‘Tun kha’ (i.e.

demand of the physical body) and not regard it as a payment. If

it (the body) does not get its basic necessities, then for how long

will it be able to serve. So are we also merely labouring?’

On hearing these words of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌, the newly

graduated Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer ◌ modestly lowered his

gaze and respectfully remained seated without saying a single

word.

Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ then asked, ‘So what is your intention

now?’ Hazrat replied: ‘My Dear Mother has passed her Salaam

to Hazrat and said that do as Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ asks you to.’ On

hearing this he said, ‘Good, now that she has given permission,

bring Qaazi Mubaarak and such and such Kitaab and commence

studying.’

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer thus continued his further studies

under the care of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌. He then specialised

in the fields of Hadith, Fiqh and Ifta, even though he became a

specialist in every field of knowledge which he tackled.

He also gave special attention to Tajweed and recitation of the

Holy Qur’an and is a well reputed Qaari. He studied Qir’at

mostly during his basic studies under his uncle Allama Aasi

Piya, who was himself a master in the field of Qir’at.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer thus gives very special attention to

recitation of the Qur’an and this can be heard even to this day,

when he recites the Holy Qur’an or when he leads the Namaaz.

Page 55: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

55

He clearly distinguishes in pronunciation of the alphabets, so

that each is distinctively noticed from the other.

Muhadith-E-Kabeer Specialises In Ifta

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer had already acquired great skill in

the field of Ifta, which is as good as walking on a naked sword. A

Mufti has to be well versed with the principles and the laws of

Jurisprudence and he should know the condition and the

current situation before passing any Fatwa (decree).

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer had already gained much

experience from his teachers in this field, especially from

Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌. However, he still wished to sit in the

shade of a Grand Mufti so that he may further acquire mastery

in this important field. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer later was

appointed to instruct students in Bengal.

Whilst there, he would travel for a month during the summer

holidays, and for the month of Ramadaan to Bareilly Shareef,

where he was blessed with writing Fatawa under the watchful

eye of Ghaus-ul-Waqt, Na’ib-e-Aala Hazrat, Huzoor Mufti-e-

Azam, Ash Shah Imam Muhammad Mustafa Raza Khan Qaadiri

Barkaati Razvi ◌.

Here Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer acquired mastery in the skills

of Ifta and was blessed with spending lengthy hours in the care

and service of Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌.

Page 56: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

56

Subhaan’Allah! He was blessed with acquiring knowledge in this

field from the best and most knowledgeable ‘Grand Mufti of The

Era’. Thus, Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ can also be

undoubtedly counted as the Teacher of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has written thousands of Fatawa

which are in the process of being compiled. How many Fatawa

he has actually written, are difficult to estimate, as he has been

constantly writing Fatawa over a period of 50 years, Allah and

His Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص know how many they are.

Bai’at And Khilaafat

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is blessed with being the Mureed

(disciple) of Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind Ash

Shah Imam Mustafa Raza Khan Qaadiri Barkaati Razvi ◌. Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer became Mureed

at the blessed hands of Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam

Hind ◌ and has complete faith in his Shaykh. He has deep love

and respect for his Murshid and there is no doubt that the

blessings of his Murshid are descending upon him in

abundance. Whenever faced with any difficulty he always

directs his attention towards his Peer-o-Murshid and always

finds peace, comfort and the answer to his prayers through the

spiritual assistance of his Shaykh-e-Kaamil.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has been blessed with the Khilaafat

from his Murshid-e-Barhaq, Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ and

Page 57: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

57

from his dear Teacher Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌. He shows

great honour and value to whatever he has acquired and

received from his Masters.

His actions and way of life is an example of the life of his Grand

Masters. Even though he is such a great Shaykh and Imam of his

time, he lives a humble and simple way of life. I have noticed

personally his love for his every Mureed and his love for the

mureeds of Huzoor Taajush Shariah Allama Mufti Akhtar Raza

Khan Qaadiri Azhari.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has mureeds throughout the Globe

who love and respect him dearly. Every Mureed of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer feels a special closeness to him. He has

blessed very few with his Khilaafat as he is very principled in

this regard, as he is with all other Deeni issues. Alhamdulillah

this humble servant (Afthab Cassim) was also blessed with

Khilaafat by his blessed hands on the stage of Urs-e-Amjadi in

the blessed city of Ghosi in 2011. I remember after Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer announced that he had blessed me with

Khilaafat in the presence of thousands of people, I was stunned

and could not gather myself for a few minutes. Hazrat then

turned to me on the stage and with love and compassion smiled

at me as he noticed my condition, and said, ‘I have just given

you Khilaafat’ I gathered myself and then immediately kissed

his holy hand, and thereafter he tied the Amaama on my head.

This, for me was a very blessed and honourable moment, after

the moment when Huzoor Taajush Shariah Allama Akhtar Raza

Page 58: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

58

Khan Qaadiri Azhari Qibla had honoured me with his Khilaafat

and Wakaalat. I pray that Allah blesses me with being able to

protect these great treasures entrusted to a low servant like

myself.

His Journey To Hajj

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer performed his first Hajj in 1386 Hijri

coinciding 1966, in the company of his beloved and dear

mother. This journey to Hajj was not only his first Hajj, but he

was blessed with a special task and responsibility by Huzoor

Hafiz-e-Millat ◌.

Just as Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was preparing to embark on

this spiritual journey of Hajj, Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ visited

him and blessed him with his Duas and good wishes, advising

him in regards to his first Hajj. Then, just as he was about to

leave on this journey, Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ commanded

him as follows: Present yourself at the Holy and Sacred Court of

the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and whilst you are there, present this

request on my behalf, that Sarkaar-e-Do-Aalam ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص should

afford me the opportunity to make Haaziri in his Holy Court, in

accordance with the Shariat.’

The aim of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ was to say that he should

be allowed to make Hajj without having to take a photograph

for his passport. He was so firm on the laws of Shariat and his

piety was such that he was not even willing to take a

photograph for the purpose of a passport. He accompanied

Page 59: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

59

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer for a leg of this journey upto the

town of Mau, and there he bade him farewell and reminded him

of his request. When Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was blessed

with visiting the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he daily for 25 days after

the time of every Salaah, presented himself before Rasoolullah

.and thus presented this request of his beloved Teacher ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer himself once mentioned:

‘I was blessed with 25 days in Madina Shareef, and after every

Namaaz, I presented myself in the Court of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and

would pass my humble Salaams, and on every occasion I made

Dua for Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ whilst weeping, and

Alhamdulillah, the following year, in 1387 (coinciding 1967)

Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ journeyed for Hajj and Ziyaarat.’

Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ himself believed and announced that

he was blessed with Haaziri in Darbaar-e-Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص without a

photo in his passport, through the Dua of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer. It is for this reason that when Hafiz-e-Millat returned

from his Hajj in 1967, he mentioned: The actual means to my

Haaziri in Darbaar-e-Risaalat ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was only the Dua of Maulvi

Zia ul Mustafa’

He once said, ‘Year after year I attempted to journey (for Hajj

and Ziyaarat), but this was to no avail, and it caused me

immense distress; when the beloved son of my Murshid, Hazrat

Maulana Zia ul Mustafa Saaheb met me before his journey to

Hajj, so I sent my request through him.’

Page 60: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

60

These two statements of Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ clearly

display the trust and confidence which he had in Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer. A great Wali of his time like Huzoor Hafiz-

e-Millat ◌ believed that his Dua for Hajj and Ziyaarat was

accepted due to the Duas of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. This

alone shows the calibre and excellence of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri Amjadi.

During this journey, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer would perform

his Namaaz with Jama’at, where he would lead the Jama’at in

the Musjid-e-Nabawi Shareef in Riyad-ul-Jannah for those with

him. Once he was invited to deliver lecture to a group of Hajis

whose guide was not available with them, so he delivered a

dynamic lecture regarding the Excellence of the Beloved Rasool

.ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

This annoyed the tableeghis and the following day at Asr he was

confronted by a person about why he was leading a separate

Jama’at and not performing behind their Imam. The following

day after Maghrib Salaah, the police came to him and said that

he should accompany them to the (Saudi) Qazi for questioning.

In brief, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was asked numerous

questions by their Qazi and he answered all of them and

debated the Qazi on many points for which he had no answer.

He finally became frustrated and asked Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer to leave, saying that if he wanted to read alone he

should read in his room and should not be seen in the Musjid.

He also said that he was sending a deportation order to the

Page 61: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

61

agent ordering that Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer be sent back to

India. This however, through the blessing of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

did not materialise and Hazrat remained in Madina Shareef for

25 days.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was further blessed with making

Hajj on numerous occasions. He journeyed for his second Hajj in

1990, then in 1994, 1998, 2003, 2008. His visits to Madina

Munaw’wara were always special. He spent as much time in the

Remembrance of Allah and sending Durood upon the Beloved

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is a true Aashiq-e-

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and we can only imagine what his spiritual

condition would have been like when he first presented himself

before the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Undoubtedly he was soaked in

the deep love of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص at this precious time.

His Love For The Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

As I have mentioned above, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is a true

and devoted Aashiq of the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Why should this

not be so, when his father and ancestors were true servants of

Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, and what can be said about the Shaykh-e-

Kaamil of his father, who is none other than Imam-e-Ishq-o-

Mohabbat Aala Hazrat Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan ◌, and his (Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s) Shaykh-e-Kaamil is Ghaus-ul-

Waqt Huzoor Sayyidi Wa Sanadi Sarkaar-e-Mufti-e-Azam Hind

◌.

Page 62: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

62

The life of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has been spent studying,

committing to memory and teaching the Ahadith of the Beloved

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. He has observed thousands and thousands of words

of the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص through the narration of thousands

of Sahaba-e-Kiraam ◌ and his entire life; he has been

spreading these words of the Beloved Habeeb ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

This alone would have filled his heart with the love of

Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص to the level that ordinary people like me will

never understand. It is for this reason that we find whilst he

delivers his lectures, such elegance and sweetness in his words,

as every word is flowing in the love and respect of Rasoolullah

.ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

One of the greatest signs of his love for Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is that

he is the perfect example of the Hadith of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

ههاحدکم حتی اکون احب اليه من والد اليومن

والناس امجعني ههوولد

None from amongst you is a true believer, unless he loves me more

than his father, his children and all the people together.

[Mishkaat Shareef]

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer never fears saying what is true and

correct and always upholds the true teaching of Islam. He does

Page 63: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

63

not care if he has to disassociate with anyone for the sake of

Allah and His Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

His deep love for Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is evident in his devout

adherence to the Sunnat of the Holy Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص; and the

loving and passionate manner in which he teaches the Hadith

of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. When Naat Shareef is recited in his

presence, especially those written by Aala Hazrat ◌ and

Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam ◌, he can be seen listening with

complete attentiveness.

Even when the Kalaams written by Huzoor Taajush Shariah

Hazrat Allama Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan are recited in his

presence, he enters into a state of deep spiritualism. I have

personally noticed tears flowing down his holy face as he

listened to Huzoor Taajush Shariah reciting one of his own

Kalaams. His true love for Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص can be seen through

his adherence to Shariat-e-Mustafa ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, in his manner of

eating, sitting, sleeping and conversation etc.

Miraculous Blessings Of Huzoor Muhadith-E-

Kabeer

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer initiated his initial visits to South

Africa towards the end of 1991. During the first visit to South

Africa, many parts of Southern Africa were affected by drought

and this included the City of Durban as well.

The hot and humid weather had prevailed for a lengthy period

of time with no sign of relief. All were praying and hoping for

rain, but there was no sign of rain at all.

The moment Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer arrived in South

Africa it marked the day when the drought had broken. On his

arrival, it began raining, and Subhaan’Allah, this not only

brought an end to the natural drought, but the entrance of

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer brought an end to a spiritual

drought, as the rains of Mercy and Blessings descended upon

the hearts of the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa Jama’at through the

presence and blessed words which flowed with wisdom and

guidance from the blessed lips of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

The end of the drought was undoubtedly a miracle of the arrival

of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer to our shores.

Muhadith-E-Kabeer Assists His Mureed Spiritually

Once a Mureed of Muhadith-e-Kabeer was involved in a car

accident wherein he had crashed into the rear of another car.

The father of the young Mureed was very stressed in regard to

Page 65: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

65

this issue as he could not meet his daily financial needs easily,

and this would definitely set him back if the insurance company

of the opposite party would claim for damages.

His fear became reality when the company claimed damages.

When this happened, the ardent Mureed remembered that he

had in his possession the Blessed Amaama Shareef of his

Murshid, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. The Mureed sincerely

held the Amaama Shareef (Turban) and remembered his

Shaykh-e-Kaamil, asking for his assistance. The Mureed

mentioned that he would be pleased with whatever his Murshid

wished.

After doing this, the ardent Mureed and his father were at ease,

as thereafter all letters, phone calls and demands from the

opposite party’s insurance company came to a sudden end. It is

seemed as if there were no records left of this incident and he

was never contacted in this regard again. This incident shows

the blessing of the belongings of the pious and also shows the

spiritual assistance that Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer gave to his

young Mureed. It also teaches every one of us a very important

and vital lesson that every Mureed should strive to be a

‘Mureed-e-Saadiq’ i.e. a devout and true disciple.

Medical Condition Of A Patient Changes

An ardent Mureed of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer Brother Sayed

Ahmed Faiz mentions that once his dad had suffered a major

heart attack at his business premises. The patient was driven to

the nearest hospital where the consulting Dr examined him and

Page 66: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

66

confirmed that he had a major heart attack. He even showed

him the results of the ECG and immediately requested an

ambulance to move the patient to a hospital that was more

equipped to deal with this situation.

Brother Sayed Ahmed Faiz called his Shaykh-e-Kaamil Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer and requested him Duas. The Shaykh

immediately made sincere Dua for the father who is also

Hazrat’s Mureed. On arriving at the said hospital and after

being examined by the Doctor on duty, the diagnosis had

changed and it was being regarded as a minor attack. When

Sayed Saab spoke to the Doctor he said, ‘we are not allowed to

really say this, but it seems like the major attack somehow

passed him by’.

In other words he could not explain how it had been averted.

Subhaan’Allah! This was undoubtedly the Dua of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer that caused the condition of this patient to

change, and to thereafter recover.

An Elderly Woman Released From Her Long Term

Discomfort

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer had gone to deliver a lecture at a

Musjid in Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa one afternoon.

After delivering an awe inspiring talk, Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer met with the Musal’lis of the Musjid with much love and

humility, and then left the Musjid to return to his place of

residence.

Page 67: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

67

As Hazrat was about to leave, the Imam of the Musjid

mentioned to Hazrat that he had requested some of the

Musal’lis to bring with them a bottle of water and a bottle of oil

so that Hazrat could make Dum on this for them. Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer immediately with much humility agreed to

do so, and read on each bottle of water and oil. One of the

Musal’lis took this water home immediately and had one of the

women in his family drink from it, as she had been affected by

evil forces for a very long time. The moment she drank the

water, to his amazement she began to call out to the Shaykh.

The person, now not knowing what to do, quickly put her into

his car and drove to the Musjid, hoping that the Shaykh would

still be there. As they arrived at the Musjid, we (Sayed Ahmed

Faiz; Afthab Cassim and others) were in the car park walking

towards our vehicle. She began to call out to the Shaykh. Her

family member requested Hazrat to make Dua for her (and we

were also informed that she had been affected by this for many

years and no one could treat her situation).

The woman was now behaving in an abnormal manner which

had become common of her and well-known to her family.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer walked over to the car and

adhering to the Shariat lowered his gaze, standing at a distance

from the vehicle.

The Shaykh then recited something and then blew in her

direction. The woman immediately became calm and

Page 68: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

68

completely normal, and was driven home by her family in a

cured state.

The Effect Of Hazrat’s Dua

On numerous occasions, mureeds and those who love Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer have narrated how they were severely ill,

or how their children were severely ill.

They called Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer and he diagnosed the

illness and made Dua and even explained home remedies which

always worked as Hazrat mentioned. His Duas are so effective

that he made Dua for a Mureed who had a serious problem with

his tooth, and it was healed, a child diagnosed with asthma,

recovered and the wife of a disciple who could not deliver her

baby due to a lengthy labour and low energy levels, delivered

her baby comfortably, ten minutes after the Dua of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

Why should this not be the case, when even his beloved

Teacher Huzoor Hafiz-e-Millat ◌ regarded his Dua as effective

and accepted! This is evident from the incidents quoted

previously in regards to Hazrat’s journey to Hajj.

Huzoor Muhadith-E-Kabeer As An Accomplished

Debater

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is also a great debater and has gone

through many debates against the corrupt and misled sects.

Many debates never materialised as the moment they heard

Page 69: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

69

that he had been chosen as the debater, they would never turn

up.

As for those that did materialise, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer

devastated the opposition with proof from Qur’an and Hadith

and brought them to their knees. He destroyed all their proofs

and proved the teachings of the Ahl-e-Sunnat to be correct.

Great personalities like Huzoor Mujahid-e-Millat ◌ invited

him to debate the enemy of Islam. In the Debate of Banaras, he

devastated the opposition and the ghair muqallids had no

answers in response to his questions and the proof he

presented against them. It was after this debate that he was

blessed with the title of ‘Faatahe Banaras’.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is the Lion of Aala Hazrat ◌ and

the Sword of Raza. He has followed in the sacred footsteps of his

Spiritual Masters and The Pious Predecessors. His firmness

against the budmazhabs and the insulters of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is

something that is itself a special blessing. For those who are

true in their love for Allah and His Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he is as soft and

gentle as a rose petal, and those who are the insulters of

Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he is the Sword of Raza. From amongst the

many Debates in which he debated, the ones most well-known

were:

Munaazira Bajardiha Banaras U.P.

Munaazira Badayoun U.P.

Munaazira Baanudchatru Pilamau

Munaazira Daamda Purilya Bengal

Munaazira Malikpur Kathiyahaar Bihar

Munaazira Hiranpur, Muwaishi Haat Paakor

By the Grace of Almighty Allah, the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa Jama’at

were victorious in every single one of these major debates

wherein Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was appointed the Chief

Debater.

There were numerous Munaaziras (debates) in which the great

and learned Ulama appointed Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer as the

Chief Debater.

Even though every single one of these great personalities were

learned and blessed personalities and masterful debaters

themselves, they always appointed Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer

as the Chief Debater in numerous debates.

Each one of them was aware of the powerful intellect and the

authority of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer in the principles and

strategies of debating. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer always

remained very calm and relaxed during a debate, and never

feels any pressure, but rather he causes the opponent to

become tense. All the Ulama who knew him as a debater and

watched him handle notorious misled persons, knew this about

him. They also knew that he was blessed with deep knowledge

in Hadith and Fiqh and this served as a great weapon for him

during debates.

Page 71: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

Amongst those learned Ulama who appointed him as Chief

Debater during debates with the budmazhabs, were:

Brief Synopsis Of The ‘Badayoun Debate’

This debate took place against molvi Khalil Ahmed Bijnauri. The

main reason behind this was that in the beginning molvi Khalil

Ahmed Bijnauri used to operate as a very strong Sunni and was

also the Mureed of the Sajjadah of Marehrah Shareef, Taajul

Ulama Hazrat Sayyid Shah Awlaad-e-Rasool Qaadiri Barkaati

Marehrawi ◌. Now, since he apparently behaved and

practiced as a Sunni and because he was the mureed and later

received Khilaafat from Hazrat Taajul Ulama Hazrat Sayyid

Shah Awlaad-e-Rasool Qaadiri Barkaati Marehrawi ◌, the

people in Badayoun regarded him as a strong sunni and thus

numerous people in the locality became his Mureeds, and soon

he had built up a very strong following of supporters.

After all of this, the people were surprised to note that in his

private gatherings and functions he would slander the Ulama-e-

Ahl-e-Sunnat by referring to them as ‘ignorant’ and ‘foolish’,

and on the contrary, he would heap praises on the scholars of

deoband, giving false narrations of their so-called piety and

knowledge etc.

Another thing which he had done, even though he claimed to

be a Sunni and even though there was no shortage of highly

acclaimed Sunni Institutes, he had enrolled both his sons to

study at deobandi institutes. One of his sons was enrolled at the

‘madrassa ameenia’ in Delhi and the other was enrolled at the

‘nadwa’ in Lucknow.

Page 73: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

73

People still didn’t doubt him because he continued claiming to

be a strong Sunni and his general practices and actions seemed

in accordance with the Sunni Creed. However, he secretively

continued educating his children at the deobandi institutes.

After his sons qualified at these institutes and returned home,

his views and his ideology now completely changed and he

clearly began to say that he did not regard the deobandis as

kaafir.

It must be noted that it is the belief of the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa

Jama’at that anyone who insults the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is

declared an infidel and anyone who after knowing regarding

the infidelity of such a person and his corrupt beliefs, doubts

his punishment or the fact that he is an infidel, himself

becomes an infidel.

It must be noted that on the basis of this, Aala Hazrat

Mujad’did-e-Deen-o-Millat Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan

◌ and the Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat including the learned and

illustrious Ulama of the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa Jama’at have declared

the ulama-e-deoband as infidels and they have declared all

those who after knowing of their corrupt beliefs, knowingly and

intentionally regard them as believers to be infidels as well. The

reason why the ulama-e-deoband were declared heretics and

infidels was on the basis of their insult to Allah and His Beloved

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Their leaders like ashraf ali Thanvi, khalil ahmed

ambethwi, rasheed ahmed gangohi and ismail delhvi insulted

Page 74: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

74

the Beloved Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص in their writing and refused to accept

that their beliefs were corrupt and misleading.

A detailed explanation of the belief of the deobandis can be

found in the books of the Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, such as in the

books of Aala Hazrat Imam Ahl-e-Sunnat and in the books of

other current day personalities, such as Jaa’Al Haq by Mufti

Ahmed Yaar Khan Na’eemi ◌ and in ‘Tablighi Jama’at by

Allama Arshad’ul Qaadiri.

The corrupt beliefs and an overview of the corrupt beliefs have

been discussed by Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s father Huzoor

Qadi Sadrush Shariah ◌ in the 1st Volume of Bahaar-e-Shariat

which is also available from us at Imam Mustafa Raza Research

Centre in English and can be downloaded from

www.noori.org The decrees of the Ulama-e-Haramain

Sharifain in this regard can be viewed in the world-renowned

Husaam-ul-Haramain.

Going back to the ‘Badayoun Debate’ it must be said that molvi

khalil Ahmed bijnauri now openly declared that he did not

regard the deobandis as infidels. When this news spread, he

started to try and control the situation from giving numerous

versions to those who questioned him in this regard, as his aim

was to try and calm the situation.

In order to clarify that this was really the case and not merely a

rumour, Maulana Muzaffar Ali Sehwaani directly approached

khalil bijnauri and discussed this situation with him.

Page 75: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

75

He pointed out his views to Maulana Muzaffar Ali Saaheb who

made note of them and prepared a query in regards to khalil

bijnauri’s views and had them sent to numerous Darul Ifta’s for

a response. All the responses came back declaring bijnauri a

deobandi. The Maulana returned to him with all the verdicts

and presented to him and very strategically asked him to

retract and make tauba. Bijnauri refused and slandered the

Ulama and Darul Iftas of the Ahl-e-Sunnat. Even Ahsan-ul-

Ulama Hazrat Sayyid Mustafa Haydar Hassan Mia Qaadiri

Barkaati ◌ tried to explain to him and clarify this with him,

but he did not take heed.

On his refusal, the Ulama of Ahl-e-Sunnat in that area prepared

one hundred and fifty three questions to khalil bijnauri, and

sent it to him by registered mail. A year had passed and no

reply came. In brief, numerous attempts were made to rectify

him and get him to clarify his views publicly, but he refused.

The end result was a debate which took place on the 6th and 7th

of March 1981. A delegation of Ulama journeyed to Badayoun

for the Debate with khalil bijnauri.

This Delegation consisted of: Ja Nasheen-e-Mufti-e-Azam

Taajush Shariah Allama Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan Qaadiri Azhari

Qibla; Shareh Bukhari Mufti Sharif-ul-Haq Amjadi ◌; Shehzaada-e-Sher Beshe Ahl-e-Sunnat Allama Mushaahid Raza

Khan ◌; Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri

Amjadi; Allama Mufti Ghulam Muhammad Khan Nagpuri;

Maulana Mufti Mujib Ashraf Razvi; Allama Qadi Abdur Raheem

Page 76: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

76

Bastavi ◌ Maulana Ayub Na’eemi Muradabadi; Allama Mufti

Muzaffar Ahmed Data Ganjvi; Maulana Mazhar Ali Sehwani and

Maulana Muhammad Haneef Khan Rampuri and a few other

Ulama.

It was agreed that Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer will be the Chief

Debater in this debate, but Allama Mushaahid Raza also wished

to debate, so both were appointed. On the day of the debate, the

Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat arrived on time on their stage and khalil

bijnauri arrived more than 30 minutes later on his stage.

The debate commenced with Allama Mushaahid Raza discussing

the issues with him and every time he tried to prove a point,

Allama Mushaahid Raza blocked him. This continued with no

real result as he continued to evade the actual issues of Aqaa’id.

Huzoor Mushaahid Raza ◌ became upset and said that he was

not prepared to debate with such a corrupt person any longer

as he was not willing to accept his wrong even though it was

being clearly proven to him.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer then stood up and took the

permission of the debating committee to engage khalil bijnauri.

He was told that he should do so in a calm manner and he said

that he would. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer questioned khalil in

regards to the statement of Ashraf Ali Thanvi in ‘hifzul imaan’

and whether he regarded it as kufr or not. He began to evade

the topic of discussion and tried to start new discussions on

other topics.

Page 77: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

77

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer then told him that the statement in

hifz-ul-Imaan is clear kufr and it is on this basis that ashraf ali

Thanvi was decreed a kaafir.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer then told him, that since he has

rejected the fact that they are kaafir, the rule of infidelity

applied to him as well. Hazrat further said you are not in the

category of ‘one who doubts the kufr or Azaab’ but you are in

the category of ‘one who rejects the kufr’ and this too causes

the kufr to fall on you.

Hazrat then said, ‘Now whatever clarification you wish to

present, you may now present it’

The debate commenced with the following words:

bijnauri: Who are you?

Muhadith-e-Kabeer: I am a representative of the Ahl-e-Sunnat

Wa Jama’at.

bijnauri: What is your name?

Muhadith-e-Kabeer: What need is there for you to know my

name?

(At this stage bijnauri’s son answers saying that it is Allama Zia

ul Mustafa)

bijnauri: Are you the son of Sadrush Shariah? He was my

Ustaaz!

Page 78: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

78

Muhadith-e-Kabeer: Incorrect! He is not your Ustaaz, but he is

the Ustaaz of Sunnis. The day you adopted deobandiyat, from

that very day you were removed from his Register of Students.

bijnauri: But you are the son of my Ustaaz

Muhadith-e-Kabeer: Incorrect! I am not the son of your Ustaaz.

I regard you as the ‘Representative’ of the deobandis; whereas I

am the ‘Representative of Aala Hazrat ◌’. Start debating (the

issue at hand) and do not waste time in all these discussions.

After this, a lengthy discussion ensued; in which bijnauri tried

his best to evade the questions posed by Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer, but this was to no avail. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer did

not allow him an inch of slack and continued pounding him

with such points which he could not answer. After many issues

and points, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer brought him back every

time to the statement of hifzul imaan and brought him to the

point where he had to either regard it as kufr or not.

The debating committee called for a short recess and then

resumed. Bijnauri started to deny statements he had made. He

said there was no proof regarding a point which Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer made and which had cornered him into a

position from which he could not come out. He said that if

Muhadith-e-Kabeer could show him what he was saying in the

books, he would accept defeat. After the recess, he denied

having made such a statement. Fortunately there was an audio

recording of the debate and it was played back to him.

Page 79: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

79

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer then showed the proof to him in

Shifa and in Sharah Shifa. Bijnauri tried to divert from this as

well, but Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer brought him back to the

statement of hifzul imaan. Bijnauri was in a corner and could

not come out of it. He then diverted from the Muzaazira

(debate) and made a challenge of ‘Mubaahila’. Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer immediately accepted the challenge and

publicly declared the words of Mubaahila.

Now, when the time came for bijnauri to declare the words of

Mubaahila, he began to stammer and stutter and could not find

the courage to do so, as he knew it would be the means to his

destruction.

The public demanded that he declare the words of Mubaahila

and he started to make excuses again, and whilst people were

still trying to get him to do so, and whilst everyone was in the

midst of discussion, he quietly picked up his books and fled the

stage.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer had defeated bijnauri. He could not

face the knowledge and power of ‘The Sword of Raza’. A huge

Meelad-e-Mustafa ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص Mehfil was hosted and lectures were

given by the great Ulama. During this program, it has been said

that the lecture of Huzoor Taajush Shariah Allama Mufti Akhtar

Raza Khan Al Qaadiri Azhari was a historic and amazing lecture

which won the hearts of the people. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer

and the Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat were gifted with garlands and

people who had been with bijnauri broke away by the

Page 80: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

80

thousands. These people then took Bai’at later at the blessed

hands of Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ and

Ahsan-ul-Ulama Hazrat Sayyid Mustafa Haydar Hassan Mia ◌

Tahirul Padri Flees From Debate With Huzoor

Muhadith-E-Kabeer

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer initially visited South Africa in late

1991. Not much longer after this the notorious Tahirul padri

visited South Africa. Before this, one of his students had already

come to South Africa to set the stage for the professor.

He was due to deliver his lecture at one of the prominent Sunni

Musjids as he had already delivered a lecture there the week

before. It happened such that at that stage the Sunni Muslims

were unaware of the devious nature of the professor and his

cronies. It so happened that during this trip of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer, he was also requested to lecture at the

same Musjid on that particular day. The moment this student of

the ‘professor’ heard that a personality by the name Muhadith-

e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri Amjadi was going to be

delivering the lecture there as well, he immediately fled and

never returned there again.

After a few years, tahir came to South Africa and Huzoor

Taajush Shariah and Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer were

requested by the Muslims of South Africa to come to South

Africa to support the Muslims through this testing time. Both

blessed personalities immediately agreed to come over to South

Page 81: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

81

Africa. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer accompanied Huzoor

Taajush Shariah as the official Debater as the objective was to

invite tahir to a debate. During this huge time of stress and

fitna, the two great and blessed personalities did not care about

their well-being or anything else.

They immediately journeyed to South Africa in order to support

the Sunnis of our country. A debate was arranged at the Grey

Street Musjid, where the professor was initially due to deliver a

talk, but he was challenged to a debate wherein the Debater

would be Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

In brief, tahir fled that night from the Musjid. He made many

excuses but the reality was that he could not face the two great

personalities and did not have the courage to debate with

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. After the incident in Grey Street

Musjid, tahir himself says that a person from India named

Maulana Zia ul Mustafa was brought to debate with him, by

Huzoor Taajush Shariah.

He repeated this many times. This showed that he was not

prepared to face Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer as he had heard in

the past about the excellence of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

He knew that this was one of the greatest debaters of the era,

and that he had absolutely no chance in his presence.

Service To Ahl-E-Sunnat Wa Jama’at

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has spend his entire life this far, in

the service of Deen-e-Islam. He has done this by way of

preparing students that are spread out all over the world

defending the pristine teachings of the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa

Jama’at. He has travelled to numerous countries spreading the

teachings of Allah and His Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer travels to many countries delivering speeches and

attending Islamic conferences. It is said that hardly a day goes

by without Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer delivering a speech for

at least an hour in which he recites many Ahadith of the

Prophet (peace be upon him) on a single specific topic. A list of

his services to Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa Jama’at can be compiled, but to

do this will require a volume by itself.

Huzoor Muhadith-E-Kabeer As A Teacher

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has been engaged in teaching the

Deen since the age of 22. He has taught Hadith for over 40 years.

His students reside all over the world. Recently a list was

compiled which reached over 30'000 students. This refers to

students whom the Madrassa has a record of. Every year

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is invited to scores of institutes for

Khatm-e-Bukhari, where the students, study the last few

Ahadith of Bukhari at the feet of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer, so

they can be counted amongst the students of Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer. This is regarded as a great honour to a student.

Page 83: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

83

It is said that over a thousand new books and pamphlets are

annually published in the Sunni world of India, and according

to the Islamic Literature Board in Lucknow almost ninety-five

percent of the authors of these books and pamphlets are

students of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa.

His students always mention the beautiful manner in which he

teaches and all of them feel very close to him. Many of them

explain his kindness towards them and his firmness in regards

to his principles. He is an uncompromising person in the issues

of Deen, but kind and gentle to those who have a true yearning

for knowledge.

A Great Muhadith

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer (The Grand Muhadith of the Era),

has been blessed with this title by the Great and Learned Ulama

of the past and present. Ja Nasheen-e-Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam,

Murshid-e-Barhaq, Huzoor Taajush Shariah, Rahbar-e-Tariqat

personally refers to him as ‘Muhadith-e-Kabeer’

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer has been blessed with immense

mastery and proficiency in the field of Hadith. He is not only

well read in the sciences of Hadith, but also a Master in Asma-e-

Rijaal and in the sciences of the principals of Hadith. With the

exception of this he is blessed with an amazing memory and has

memorised thousands of Hadith of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. It has been

mentioned that he has knowledge of almost sixty thousand

Hadith of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. During his younger age, he was

known even by the elders to know hundreds of Hadith by

memory, and as he became more engrossed in this Field, he

committed more and more Ahadith-e-Mubaaraka to memory.

His uncle Ra’ees-ul-Qalam Allama Arshad-ul-Qaadiri ◌ once

said, ‘He (Allama Zia ul Mustafa) makes us proud in the fields of

Hadith and Fiqh, just like his honourable father. He has

committed hundreds of Hadith of the Sahihain to memory

including the chains of transmission. In this time, amongst his

contemporaries, he is second to none with regards to his

knowledge, experience, memory, and manner of teaching,

oration and debating.’

Statements Of The Great Masha’ikh And Ulama

About Him

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah Allama Qadi Amjadi Ali Aazmi ◌

“(Insha Allah), this son of mine will be a very great

Aalim in the future.”

Haafiz-E-Millat Allama Abdul Azeez Muhadith Muraadabadi ◌

“The amount of pleasure I get from teaching these

special sciences of knowledge to him (Allama Zia ul

Mustafa), I would not get in teaching a hundred other

students.”

“Whatever I have attained from Huzoor Sadrush

Shariah, I have given all of it to Zia ul Mustafa”

Once whilst delivering a talk at Ashrafiyah Huzoor

Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ said, “I have called Maulvi Zia ul

Mustafa for Ashrafiyah. There is not much increase in

his salary. However, if there is a need, I am willing to

even give my salary to increase his, but he should not be

allowed to leave here.”

He would often be heard saying, “I have kept Maulvi Zia

ul Mustafa in my place”

He would also often say, “I have handed over all my

responsibilit ies to Maulvi Zia ul Mustafa”

Page 93: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

93

Muhadith-E-Azam Pakistan Allama Sardaar Ahmed ◌

Muhadith-e-Azam Pakistan is a personality well known to the

Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat and is regarded one of the greatest

Teachers of Hadith of his time. He was the Mureed of Huzoor

Hujjatul Islam Maulana Haamid Raza Khan ◌ and the student

of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌. In numerous of his letters, he

wrote about the intelligence of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. He

often wrote:

“The respected Zia ul Mustafa Saaheb is a very

intelligent person”

Huzoor Mujahid-E-Millat Hazrat Allama Habeeb-Ur-Rahmaan

Ab’basi ◌

Huzoor Mujahid-e-Millat ◌ was a great Aalim, a Wali and the

contemporary of Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ He stated:

“Whatever Khilaafat etc Sadrush Shariah Mufti Amjadi

Ali Saaheb◌ bestowed upon me, I am handing over all

of this to his son, Zia ul Mustafa”

Whilst appointing Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer as the Chief

Debater during the Debate of Bajardiha in Banarus against the

notorious ‘ghayr muqallid’ Maulvi safi’ur Rahmaan Mubarakpuri, Huzoor Mujahid-e-Millat عليه الرمحه said:

Page 94: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

94

“Today, as the representative of our Madhab (Ahl-e-

Sunnat), I am appointing such a young Aalim as the

Chief Debater, who has complete proficiency in the skills

and sciences which is required, and possesses a special

masterfulness in the field of Ahadith. (In other words he

was referring to Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul

Mustafa)”

A few of the elder Ulama present before the commencement of

the debate were not well versed in regards to the knowledge

and intellect of Hazrat and conferred with regards to this

decision, and Huzoor Mujahid-e-Millat ◌ said:

“I know what he is (i.e. I am aware of Allama Zia ul

Mustafa’s capabil ity). Insha Allah we will be victorious

in this debate through him.”

Alhamdulillah, the debate ended with victory through Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer, as per the words of Huzoor Mujahid-e-

Millat ◌.

Ra’ees-Ul-Qalam Allama Arshad-Ul-Qaadiri ◌

“He (Allama Zia ul Mustafa) makes us proud in the fields

of Hadith and Fiqh, just like his honourable father. He

has committed hundreds of Hadith of the Sahihain to

memory including the chains of transmission. In this

time, amongst his contemporaries, he is second to none

with regards to his knowledge, experience, memory, and

manner of teaching, oration and debating.”

Taajush Shariah Allama Mohammed Akhtar Raza Khan Qaadiri

Azhari

All those who are aware of the spiritual relationship between

Huzoor Taajush Shariah and Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer will

know that on numerous occasions Huzoor Taajush Shariah has

heaped praise on Muhadith-e-Kabeer. A collection of these

incidents alone would form a lengthy booklet. Some of Huzoor

Taajush Shariah’s statements regarding Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer are:

“Allama (Zia ul Mustafa) Saaheb in this time is an

important Commander in Chief of Maslak-e-Aala Hazrat

◌. He is a personality who is steadfast on Maslak-e-

Aala Hazrat and is one who will remain steadfast on

Maslak-e-Aala Hazrat”

“Allama Zia ul Mustafa is a great Scholar and Sufi of this

time”

“Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa is not

merely a single person but it is the name of an entire

Assembly (i.e. Movement)”

Page 96: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

96

Allama Dr Muhammad Aasim Aazmi (Lecturer Shams-Ul-Uloom

Ghosi)

“Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha, Muhadith-e-Kabeer Hazrat Allama

Alhaaj Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri is an exalted and

celebrated Aalim of this era, a Faqih with deep insight, a

reputable Muhadith, conscious and intelligent

personality, masterful orator, a proficient debater and

teacher. His sequence of lectures and teaching has now

encompassed a period of almost 60 years.

Thousands of thirsty seekers of knowledge of the Deen-e-

Mustafa ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص have quenched their thirst through him. He

is serving the Deen sincerely in his propagation as a

Jurist and lecturer etc, both in India and abroad. With

the exception of his deep knowledge, Hazrat is blessed

with being a great philosopher, intellectual and

strategist. He handles the affairs of Jamia Amjadia

Razvia (Ghosi) with complete dedication and

professionalism. Within a short period of time he has

made his mark both in India and abroad, and is regarded

as a consistent and dependable personality in the circles

(of Ahl-e-Sunnat) both in India and abroad.”

Page 97: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

97

Allama Ridwaan Ahmed Saaheb Shareefi (Lecturer Shams-Ul-

Uloom)

“The interpreter and guardian of Maslak-e-Aala Hazrat,

Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa Saaheb Qibla

has complete expertise in the customary sciences and

skills. He is blessed with great proficiency, particularly in

the Sciences of Hadith. He is definitely and undoubtedly

deserving of the Titles ‘Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha’; ‘Sultaan-ul-

Asaatiza’ and ‘Muhadith-e-Kabeer’. Each and everyone

who knows him definitely concede to his Scholarly

Distinction. Forget the views of all else; the learned Elders

have always praised his scholarly capabilit ies.”

I remember well that Hazrat was invited for the annual

Khatam Bukhari Shareef function at Jaamia Farooqia.

There were numerous Ulama and Masha’ikh present on

the stage, more prominently, Shams-ul-Ulama Huzoor

Qaazi Shamsud’deen Saaheb Qibla ◌. On listening to

his scholarly discourse, the entire crowd became

euphoric. The condition of Shams-ul-Ulama was such

that he was beaming and glowing. He heaped praise and

Duas on Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. Allah bless us by

keeping him amongst us for a long time.

98

Shehzada-E-Sadrush Shariah Allama Fida-Ul-Mustafa Qaadiri

“Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌ produced Ulama and

many students, and the Successor of Sadrush Shariah,

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer carried his (Sadrush

Shariah’s) mission forward, and produced Ulama, but

also established a Plant (i.e. Institute) which produces

Ulama.”

Hazrat Allama Maulana Mufti Rajab Ali Saaheb Balrampuri

“If I teach for an entire year, you will not be able to

receive as much beneficence as you will receive one

minute of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s Lesson.”

Allama Mufti Qudrat’ullah (Principal Darul Uloom Ahl-E-

Sunnat)

“Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha Muhadith-e-Kabeer Hazrat Allama

Zia ul Mustafa Saaheb Qibla is very skilled in the

Sciences of Fiqh and Hadith. It is for this reason that the

Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat have bestowed upon him the

titles ‘Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha’ and ‘Muhadith-e-Kabeer’. He

is the possessor of immense knowledge and brilliance. He

possesses great proficiency in the Sciences of Shariat. He

is always active in propagating and working for the sake

of Islam and Sunniyat. He is also a masterful debater. He

has conquered the ‘ghayr muqallids’ and the ‘deobandis’

in numerous debates, forcing them to bow their heads in

99

defeat. (I pray) that Almighty Allah blesses him with

long life and good health, so that he may be amongst us

for a long time. Aameen”

Hazrat Mufti Shamshaad Ahmed Aazmi (Lecturer Jamia Amjadia

Ghosi)

“He (Muhadith-e-Kabeer) is very well recognised in

Europe, Asia, Africa and America etc due to his diverse

personality. He is a splendid and leading authority in the

educational field. Further, he is a Masterful Orator and

one of the most Blessed personalities in the Sciences of

Fiqh and Hadith today. He is also a great Interpreter and

Debater on behalf of the Ahl-e-Sunnat wa Jama’at.”

Shehzada-E-Muhadith-E-Kabeer Hazrat Maulana Ala’ul Mustafa

Qaadiri (Manager Jamia Amjadia Ghosi)

Mumtaz-ul-Fuqaha wal Muhaditheen Hazrat Allama Zia

ul Mustafa Saaheb Qibla is the reminder of Faqih-e-

Azam Hind Huzoor Sadrush Shariah’s ◌ knowledge and

competency, in India. He (Muhadith-e-Kabeer) holds a

special position amongst the Ulama. Jalaalatul Ilm

Ustaaz-ul-Ulama Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ on

numerous occasions mentioned, “Whatever I have

attained from Huzoor Sadrush Shariah, I have given all

of it to Zia ul Mustafa”. He is an expert in the Sciences of

Hadith and Fiqh. His brilliance and scholarly ability can

Page 100: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

100

be understood from this, that when the post of Fakhr-ul-

Ulama Hazrat Allama Maulana Hafiz Abdur Ra’oof ◌ became vacant at Al Jami’atul Ashrafiyah, Huzoor

Haafiz-e-Millat◌ called Hazrat and during his lifetime,

appointed him to teach the most important Kitaabs at

the Institute.”

Maulana Anees Aalam Siwaani (Faadil Saddam University Iraq)

“Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is a Master in every Science of

learning. He is a respected and honoured personality of the

Ahl-e-Sunnat Wa Jama’at and a competent leader of the

Muslim Nation. He is the Guardian of the Station of Risaalat.

He is a sea and treasure chest of knowledge and spirituality,

and a shore-less sea of wisdom and insight.”

Hazrat Maulana Badr-Ul-Qaadiri Saaheb (Denhaag Holland)

“In this current era, Muhadith-e-Kabeer Hazrat Allama

Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri is the rightful Janasheen

(Successor) to the knowledge and spiritualism of Huzoor

Sadrush Shariah ◌ and Huzoor Haafiz-e-Millat ◌ and

it is very difficult in this time to find anyone with

knowledge and virtue, as possessed by him. Due to his

knowledge, piety and his expertise in Jurisprudence,

Hazrat has been blessed with such an exalted status, that

from whichever angle in the world we look at it, we find

Hazrat unique amongst the Ulama of this day and age.

Page 101: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

101

Just as Huzoor Taajush Shariah is the rightful Successor

of Sayyiduna Aala Hazrat ◌ from Bareilly Shareef;

likewise Hazrat Muhadith-e-Kabeer is the rightful

Successor and heir of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌. (I

pray) that Almighty Allah keeps his beneficence and

blessing over us for a long time. With the exception of

services in the Field of knowledge, and his other Religious

services, the establishment of The Institute for Girls was

the need of the time and has only benefitted India, but it

has been beneficial for the entire Sunni World. Following

this example, not just one or two, but scores of such

Institutes are now being established. This is owed to the

foresight and deep spiritual insight of Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer. (I pray that) Allah keeps him amongst us for a

long time. Aameen”

Above we have only presented a few statements of the Ulama

which Mufti Abul Hassan Al Qaadiri of Jamia Amjadia Ghosi had

quoted in his Urdu manuscript which details the life and works

of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. The Manuscript contains the

statements of numerous other Ulama, including many of the

distinguished students of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. It must

be noted that the concise nature of this book does not allow us

to quote all such statements. I must end this section by saying

that I (Afthab Cassim) have personally found Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer to be one of the most simple and humble personalities

in this era. Even though he has been blessed with such vast

Page 102: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

102

knowledge and he holds such a towering position amongst the

Ulama and Masha’ikh, he continues to live in a humble and

simple manner. There is no doubt that he is from amongst the

‘Chosen Beloveds of Allah’ in this era. May we be blessed by him

always. Aameen

Mufti Jamal Mustafa Qaadiri (Son Of Muhadith-E-Kabeer) And

Principal Of Jaamia Amjadia Ghosi

“I have studied numerous Kitaabs from the beginning of Dars-e-

Nizaami right upto the final stages under Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer, and I have not found any teacher who was able to teach

and explain these Kitaabs in the manner in which he did.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is a very blessed personality and

the true successor of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah and the rightful

successor of the knowledge and Ruhaniyat of Huzoor Hafiz-e-

Millat ◌.

Even though Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is such a blessed and

esteemed personality he is still such a humble and gentle

person. Even when he taught, I have not seen anyone as gentle

as him towards the students. If a student asked him something

he immediately explains in a manner whereby the student

understands him so well. I noticed that if he is engrossed in

anything, no matter how busy he may be, if someone asks him

something about a Deeni issue, he would immediately leave

whatever he is doing and attend to their query. He has been

blessed with great honour and respect amongst the Muslims,

especially amongst the learned personalities. I remember well

Page 103: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

103

that once Huzoor Taajush Shariah came to Ghosi for the

opening ceremony at Jaamia Amjadia and during this time, he

taught a lesson from Baidhawi Shareef after reciting ‘Iqra’.

After he taught this, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer on his request

stood and gave a detailed explanation of Hazrat’s lesson. A

Great and Blessed Personality like Huzoor Taajush Shariah then

addressed Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer with numerous blessed

titles, such as the Imam of Hadith, and the Great Jurist of his

time and referred to him as one of the most knowledgeable

persons in the Science of Hadith in this day and age.

I (Mufti Jamal Mustafa) after observing Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer from my childhood, declare that I personally regard him

as a ‘Wali’ and I have seen none in this era like him, in his way

of piety and steadfastness. I have personally noticed that

whenever Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer enters the Mazaar of

Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌, then when he comes out of the

Mazaar Shareef, I have always seen a radiant glow on his holy

forehead. This I am not just saying, but it is a reality which I

have always seen with my own eyes. I believe this glow is the

special blessing of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah upon him. I

sincerely pray that Almighty Allah increases his life and grants

him good health, keeping his blessing over us for a long time. I

also make Dua that Allah blesses Maulana Afthab Cassim Al

Qaadiri Razvi Noori with good health and long life for the sake

of service to Ahl-e-Sunnat wa Jama’at and take even more

service of Deen from him. I make Dua that Allah accepts this

effort of his, and protect him from the envy of the envious and

from evil eye and from the mischief of the mischievous ones.

Khilaafat In The Spiritual Presence Of Sadrush

Shariah ◌

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer mentions that once Huzoor Hafiz-e-

Millat ◌ came to Ghosi for Haaziri at the Mazaar of Sadrush

Shariah ◌. After his Haaziri and Faateha at the Mazaar, he

walked down the stairs and then went up a few steps, then

came back and took him (Muhadith-e-Kabeer) by his hand into

the Mazaar Shareef. He then removed his personal Amaama

Shareef (Turban) and tied it on the head of Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer and said addressing Huzoor Sadrush Shariah spiritually;

‘Huzoor! I am making you witness that whatever you have

bestowed upon me in the form of Khilaafat and all other

blessings, I am passing on all of this to Maulvi Zia ul Mustafa’.

Huzoor Muhadith-E-Kabeer Meets Huzoor Hujjat-

Ul-Islam ◌

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer mentions that once whilst he was a

very little boy, he was seated on the roof (garden) of the house,

when his beloved mother called out to him. He immediately

rushed to his mother, and she said to him that he should take a

bath and put on nice clean clothes as ‘The Big Maulana’ (i.e.

Huzoor Hujjatul Islam ◌) was coming to their home today.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer remembers very well how he

quickly took a bath and put on his best clothes. Hujjat-ul-Islam

Huzoor Haamid Raza Khan ◌ the elder son of Mujaddid-e-

Deen-o-Millat Aala Hazrat Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan

◌ had graced their home to visit Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s beloved

father, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ◌.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer mentions that after dressing up, he

went out to meet Huzoor Hujjat-ul-Islam ◌. He says that he

made Salaam to Huzoor Hujjat-ul-Islam ◌ and then kissed his

blessed hand. Huzoor Hujjat-ul-Islam asked what his name was

and Muhadith-e-Kabeer, who was very young, a child at that

stage, in his childlike manner said ‘Zia ul Mustafa’.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer says he remembers well that

Huzoor Hujjat-ul-Islam ◌ then with love poked him in his

stomach and asked, ‘What do you do?’ so the very young

Muhadith-e-Kabeer softly said, ‘Nothing as yet’. Huzoor Hujjat-

ul-Islam then said to him, ‘You should study (i.e. ilm-e-Deen)’

and he then made Du’a for Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer saying,

‘When you study, you will be very successful’

Subhaan’Allah! This was the meeting between Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer when he was only a few years old, with

Huzoor Hujjat-ul-Islam ◌.

There is no doubt that Huzoor Hujjat-ul-Islam encouraged him

to study at such a young age, as he had already seen that this

child would one day be the Muhadith of his Era.

Duas Of Ghaus-Ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-E-Azam

Hind ◌

As mentioned earlier in this book, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer

was blessed with spending much time under the guidance of his

Shaykh-e-Kaamil Ghaus-ul-Waqt Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind

◌. Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ blessed him with the

Khilaafat as well and blessed him with his Duas on numerous

occasions, praying for his success and spiritual progress.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer mentions that once he requested

Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam to bless him with permission to recite a

particular amal and Hazrat Mufti-e-Azam ◌ then blessed him

with the Ijaazat for numerous other prayers and amals

immediately.

His Immense Caution And Piety

I have noticed very few personalities today with the piety and

cautiousness like Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. He is cautious in

everything which has to do with the Deen of Allah and His

Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. He shows caution in his discussions and the manner

in which he chooses his words. When addressing Rasoolullah

he shows ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and the Beloveds of Allah and His Rasool ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

complete caution and utmost respect.

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is absolutely particular and vigilant

in regards to issues of Halaal and Haraam. He never eats

anything regarding which there is the slightest doubt. He pays

special attention to the issues of Halaal and Haraam, to the

extent that if he doubts the meat which is being served, he will

not even eat the vegetable dish if it was cooked using the same

utensils or if the spoon from one dish is used in the dish which

he is not sure about. I have never seen or heard him slander any

person who is a Sunni Sahihul Aqida. He exercises complete

caution in all aspects of his life, be this at home or whilst on

journey.

If one observes him perform his Wudu and then offering his

Salaah, one will notice his sincerity in the manner in which he

offers his Salaah. Every action is performed with caution and in

accordance to the commands of the Shariah. When looking at

him in Salaah, those who are aware of the laws of Fiqh related

to Salaah will be able to see the words of the book being

adopted in the practical manner. Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s

Page 108: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

108

cautiousness and his piety should serve as an example for us.

We should observe the lives and ways of these blessed

personalities, and use this to rectify our own lives and ways.

His Simplicity And Humility

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is a very simple and humble

personality. He does not look for the respect of people, but

rather shows so much of respect and honour to those Ulama

and true Sunnis, who are much less in knowledge and age than

him.

I (Afthab Cassim) had the opportunity of residing at the home

of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer during Urs-e-Amjadi in 2011.

Subhaan’Allah! Looking at his simple way of life and his

humility brought tears to my eyes. For as long as we were at

Hazrat’s home, he personally served our meals and would not

allow us to do anything. He slept with us in the same room,

placing only a thin sheet on the cement floor. This I am told is

his normal manner of sleeping. Even when Hazrat blessed me

with living at my home last year whilst in South Africa, he did

not sleep on the bed but requested permission to sleep on the

floor.

Whilst at his blessed home, I noticed his adherence to the

Sunnat and how he tried to the best of his ability to make his

guests feel comfortable. He cared for each of us and went out of

his way to make sure that we were all fine at all times. When

going to the stage of Urs-e-Amjadi, I had noticed that he never

Page 109: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

109

waited for a group of Mureeds or well-wishers to escort him to

the stage, but walked alone towards the Urs Area.

There is no doubt that he is the true example of the Pious

Predecessors. When one looks at the simplicity and humility of

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer, one undoubtedly remembers great

personalities like Hazrat Junaid-e-Baghdadi ◌ and Hazrat Ba

yazeed-e-Bustaami ◌.

A Great Faqih (Jurist) Of This Era

Undoubtedly Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer is one of the most

renowned, competent, masterful and conversant Jurists of this

era. The Position and status of a Faqih is a very blessed and

exalted position. This status is one that is blessed to those who

are specially chosen for this task by the Divine Grace of Allah,

and by the Mercy and Blessing of Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer is one such blessed personality. He is not

just a Faqih, but he is regarded as being amongst the Imams of

the Fuqaha of this Era. Who is a Faqih? I think at this juncture it

is of utmost important to re-iterate the importance and the

excellence of a Faqih, so that we may better understand the

position that has been blessed to Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. In

doing so I would like to present a brief discussion on the

excellence of a Faqih in the Light of Ahadith, which is extracted

from the English Translation of an essay by Mujahid-e-Ahl-e-

Sunnat Allama Sayed Shah Turab-ul-Haq Qaadiri. It has been

Page 110: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

110

mentioned as follows in the Hadith Shareef in regards to the

excellence and the virtue of a Faqih:

من يريد اهللا به خيرا يفقهه فى الدين

Hazrat Ameer Mu’awiyah ◌ has reported that the Beloved Rasool

said ‘If Allah wills to bestow someone with special virtue; He ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

makes him a Faqih of the Religion’. [Bukhari, Muslim, Mishkaat]

يارهم فى الجاهلية خيارهم فى الاسالم اذا فقهواخ

Hazrat Abu Hurairah ◌ reported that Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said; ‘Those

who were good in the days of ignorance are also good in Islam, if they

have understanding of the Deen.’ [Bukhari, Muslim, Mishkaat]

In this Hadith, Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص mentioned that people are

bestowed with being better, on the basis of Fiqh, i.e. on the

basis of their understanding of their Deen. This also proves that

according to Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, one of the best qualities in a

person is for him to have knowledge of Fiqh. Once the Holy

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص made the following Dua for Hazrat Abdullah ibn

Ab’bas ◌ by saying;

اللهم فقهه فى الدينO Allah! Make him a Faqih of the Religion [Bukhari]

Hazrat Ibn Ab’bas ◌ says that Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said

فقيه واحد اشد على الشيطان من الف عابد

Page 111: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

111

‘One Faqih is more superior over shaitaan, than a thousand

worshippers.’ [Tirmizi, Ibn Majah, Mishkaat]

From this Hadith it is evident that a single Faqih (Jurist) is more

powerful over shaitaan, than a thousand devout worshippers.

The reason for this is that due to the knowledge which Allah

has bestowed upon him, and due to his understanding of the

Deen, he is able to recognise and avoid the traps and the

trickery of shaitaan. In reality, he becomes the one who assist

others to be protected from the trickery and deception of

shaitaan.

In Ilm-Al-Hadith, there are two things that are fundamental.

The first being, the authenticity of the chain of transmission,

and its narration; and the second being it’s meaning and

understanding. The Muhaditheen of the Ummah memorised

and preserved the words and chain of transmission of the

Hadith, whereas the distinguished Fuqaha carried the

responsibility of understanding its true meaning and wisdom. It

should also be noted that the distinguished Fuqaha also have

complete expertise and proficiency in the subject of Hadith.

One incident pointing to the importance and excellence of the

Fuqaha is as follows: ‘Khateeb Baghdadi mentions that a Group

of Muhaditheen were present, when a woman who used to bath

deceased females came forth and asked a question, ‘Can a

female who is menstruating give Ghusl to a female who has

passed away or not?’ Imam Yahya bin Mu’een, Abu Hatheema,

Zuhair bin Harb, and Khalf bin Saalim etc. who are regarded

Page 112: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

112

amongst distinguished Muhaditheen were present there. Each

one of them began to look at the other, and none of them was

able to give an answer immediately. At that very moment,

Imam Abu Thaur ◌ who with the exception of being a

Muhadith; was also a Mujtahid and a Faqih, passed by. The lady

approached him and queried regarding the said issue. He said

‘Yes, a female who is menstruating is permitted to give Ghusl to

a deceased female.’ The reason being that once Rasoolullah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

said to Hazrat Sayyida A’isha عنها تعاىل اهللا رضى ‘Your menstruation is

not in your hand’. It is also mentioned in the Hadith that whilst

in the condition of Haidh, Hazrat A’isha ◌ used to sprinkle

water in the hair of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and she would comb a path

in his hair. So, if in such a condition, water can be poured onto

the head of a living person, why then can a deceased not be

given Ghusl?’ When the distinguished Muhaditheen heard this

Fatwa of Imam Abu Thaur ◌ they began to discuss the chain of

transmission of the Hadith he had mentioned, mentioning who

its narrators were and how it was narrated. When the woman

heard this, she said ‘Where were you all this while?’ In other

words, she tried to say that if that were the case, why then did

they not give the answer’. [Tareekh-e-Baghdad Volume 6 Page 67]

After this brief introduction to a Faqih in the light of Ahadith,

one may now better understand the excellence of Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer. Not only is he a Faqih, but he is also a

Muhadith, and not just a Muhadith, but he is regarded as the

most learned personalities in the era as ‘Muhadith-e-Kabeer’.

Muhadith Muradabadi

Hazrat Shaykh Muhadith-e-Kabeer Allama Zia ul Mustafa

Qaadiri

Below are a few of my personal experiences with Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer Qibla:

A Flight To Remember

During the Holy Month of Ramadaan this year, Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer once again graced the shores of Durban, as

they have been for many years, blessing us sinful servants with

their love, knowledge and blessings. Hazrat stayed in Durban

for a few days and then flew to Lilongwe Malawi and was to

then proceed to Blantyre Malawi. I thus decided to take

advantage of this situation and accompany Hazrat on this

journey.

A day or two before I booked my ticket on South African

Airways and since I am a voyager member, I had accumulated

some miles, so I decided that I would buy a normal ticket and

then use my miles to upgrade mine and Hazrat’s ticket to

business class so that Hazrat would be more comfortable during

the flight. However, when I attempted to do that, I was told that

there was only one seat available for upgrade and at that stage

there was a problem with the issuing name on Hazrat’s ticket,

so I asked them to upgrade my ticket. I decided that once on the

Page 117: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

117

plane I would give my business class seat to Hazrat and then

take Hazrat’s as only one seat was left.

The upgrade was from Johannesburg to Lilongwe. We flew from

Durban to Johannesburg and then after a short transit we were

to fly to Lilongwe. Again when we got to Johannesburg, I tried

to see if I could get Hazrat’s ticket upgraded with my remaining

miles as well, but it was in vain as I was told that there were no

business class seats available for upgrade. I had made this

attempt once more, as Hazrat did not seem comfortable to take

my seat in business class, but I explained to Hazrat that I don’t

fly in business class usually and that I had upgraded my seat so

that I could get him to sit there. He thanked me, but I could see

that he was not comfortable. I noticed that he felt he was going

to be more comfortable than me and this he was not too pleased

about.

We waited for about 2 hours at Johannesburg airport on a day

that was out of the ordinary, at only 1 degree. Whilst sitting at

the airport, Hazrat on two or three occasions said, ‘Please don’t

worry. You sit in the first class seat and I am fine where my seat

is’, so again I mentioned to Hazrat that I did not really upgrade

for me but it was for him and it was only with my name as I am

the voyager member. After a little while I noticed Hazrat smiled

at me and was then very relaxed for the next fifteen or so

minutes that remained in the boarding time, and he did not

discuss the issue of the seat again.

Page 118: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

118

Just as the boarding began an announcement was made that all

business class passengers should board from the right and

economy class passengers should board from the left. I got

Hazrat to stand almost at the front of the economy class queue,

and even though I was not very comfortable now, I stood in the

business class queue, as boarding is required to be done with

Identification. I said to Hazrat that once we were on the flight,

he could take my seat which I had upgraded for him and I would

take his. Hazrat simply smiled. Co-incidentally I got to the

boarding desk on the right just as Hazrat got to the boarding

gate desk to my left. As the ground staff in charge of boarding

handed the boarding pass stub to me, I noticed the ground staff

on the other side tear Hazrat’s stub into a few pieces and throw

it into the waste basket. She then wrote a new boarding pass

and handed it to Hazrat.

As we got out of the boarding area together, I asked Hazrat to

give me his boarding pass and to take mine so he could sit in my

seat. He smiled at me saying that there was no need, and I

insisted. Hazrat then smiled and said, it wouldn’t make any

difference, but I was not comfortable sitting in business whilst

Hazrat sat in economy, so Hazrat smiled and handed the stub of

his boarding pass to me. To my amazement, Hazrat had been

upgraded to business class, and not just that, but right next to

me. Subhaan’Allah!

To me, this was undoubtedly, a Karaamat of Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer. I was told time and over again that there was no seat

available even a short while before, but Hazrat caused this to

Page 119: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

119

happen so that I would not be uncomfortable and so that he

would not have to take my business class seat (which was really

for him). It may seem like something trivial, but it made me

remember that they have been blessed with the ability to

change things which you and I cannot do even though we have

the worldly means to do so.

Hazrat Maulana Faizal Farooq ◌

I have noticed numerous other miraculous actions performed

by Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer. I remember well the night that

Khalifa-e-Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ Hazrat Maulana Faiz-

Al-Farooq ◌ passed away (Allah exalt him in Jannat-un-

Na’eem). He was a great Sunni Aalim and a true Aashiq of his

Murshid Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌. He was my very close

and dear friend, whose passing away left a deep sadness in my

heart and a void in the Ahl-e-Sunnat community.

The night that Hazrat Maulana ◌ passed away was the night

before Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was to leave from Durban

back home to India. Hazrat’s flight was early that morning and

Maulana Saaheb ◌ passed away during the early hours of that

morning, to be more accurate, he passed away at 1:40am on the

morning of the 2nd of Shawwal and I remember it well as it was

the time of passing from this world of Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam

Hind ◌ (1:40am) and this proved his love for his Shaykh.

Page 120: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

120

I mentioned to Hazrat about the passing of Maulana ◌ and

since Hazrat knew him well, especially due to his role in the

refutation of tahirul padri, Hazrat was saddened by his passing.

Unfortunately Hazrat had to leave early for the airport and

could not make it to the Janaazah. I took Hazrat’s permission

and left for Maulana’s ◌ home. About an hour and a half

before the flight time of Hazrat I noticed one of our brothers

arriving at Maulana’s ◌ home with Hazrat. Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer walked in and comforted the family and then sat

beside Maulana ◌. I saw tears flow from Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer’s eyes as he sat beside Hazrat Maulana ◌. He then

made Faateha and walked out saying,

‘The love of his Murshid has taken him to Jannat’

To me these words proved that Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer was

seeing that which none of us was could see.

Huzoor left for the airport, with hardly any time left for his

flight. We were all concerned that they would not make it on

time as the airport was at least a 35 minute drive away and by

then the check-in counters would have closed. The first

Karaamat on this morning were the words of Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer, and the second miracle was that the driver returned

that evening with others who went with to the airport and was

completely amazed. He could not believe how quickly he

reached the airport with still almost 30 minutes to spare before

the check-in closed, which was not a possibility with the

Page 121: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

121

amount of time which was remaining when they left the home

of Maulana ◌. It reminded that Almighty Allah gathers the

earth for his beloveds’ so that they may travel between places

within short spaces of time. Subhaan’Allah!

Hazrat Peerji ◌

The discussion on life of Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer would not

be complete if we did not discuss Hazrat Mohammed Saleh

(alias) Peerji ◌. He was the Mureed and Khalifa of Huzoor

Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ and was given the title Peerji by Huzoor

Mufti-e-Azam ◌. He loved his Murshid dearly and his Murshid

◌ loved him dearly too. Alhamdulillah, Hazrat Peerji ◌ travelled to South Africa in the company of Huzoor Muhadith-

e-Kabeer for many years. He was Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s

close and beloved companion for a very long time. He always

said that after Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam Hind ◌ he in that time

did not see anyone like Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam ◌ but one

person who he felt was firm in the way of Huzoor Mufti-e-Azam

◌ was Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer.

I (Afthab Cassim) Alhamdulillah share a very special closeness

with him since my days as a student at Madrassa Manzar-e-

Islam in Bareilly Shareef, as he would live in my room when he

came to Bareilly Shareef for the Urs. After I had returned home,

after my studies, whenever I visited India, he would be waiting

for me at the airport and would say that I was his guest. He was

a truly loyal companion to Allama Saaheb Qibla (as Hazrat is

Page 122: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

122

affectionately known to many of us), and showed great respect

and love for Hazrat, and Allama Saaheb Qibla displayed the

same for him. I remember well that a day or two after Peerji ◌ had passed from this world, I dreamt of him. He was at my flat

lying on the bed in one of the rooms. In my dream I looked at

him surprised as I knew he had passed away and in the dream

he was so alive. On seeing my astonishment, he looked at me

and smiled as he always did when he spoke to me, and then he

gave a slight chuckle and said, “Did you think I was dead. Don’t

worry I am alive as you can see.” He then said to me in the

dream that I should tell Allama Saaheb Qibla not to worry as he

was fine. I called Allama the following morning and mentioned

what I had dreamt. He said it was evidence of his success in the

hereafter. Rahmatullah Bhai who was also very close to Peerji

◌ and who was blessed with many spiritual gifts from Peerji

◌ said to me, when I mentioned the dream to him, that some

others had also dreamt similar dreams. Allah showers rains of

Mercy over his holy resting place.

His Kindness And Gentle Manner

With the exception of the above experiences I have had many

other experiences, some of which cannot be mentioned here as

some may not understand the deep sense of such incidents. I

have however noticed also how his treatment to people with

numerous illnesses through Taweez and Hakeemi medicines has

worked wonders. Hazrat is also an accomplished Hakeem like

his beloved father and many people have been blessed with

Page 123: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

123

Shifa, after using medicines prescribed and sometimes even

made by him. His Taweez have such an effect that those who

use them with sincerity are blessed with the alleviation of their

difficulties and illnesses after using them. I have noticed how he

shows special attention to those who are not wealthy and never

stands with hands tied with respect before the wealthy, as it is

sadly the manner of many Ulama today. He always makes a

person who is not wealthy feel very welcome and makes sure

that they sit close to him.

His Love For Huzoor Taajush Shariah

We have already discussed his humility earlier, but his love and

respect for the true Ulama is something worth noting. Even to

those who are much younger than him and cannot compare in

knowledge to him in anyway, he shows so much of love and

respect. As for the Masha’ikh, I have noticed his sincere love

and respect for Huzoor Taajush Shariah on many occasions. I

noticed once at the house of Brother Askari Raza in Harare,

Zimbabwe, when Huzoor Taajush Shariah had entered the

bathroom, he quickly got onto the bed on all fours and began to

straighten the sheets. We were so surprised, and as he started

to do that, Taajush Shariah came out of the bathroom in

seconds, as if he knew what Allama Saaheb Qibla was doing, and

said, ‘Allama (Saaheb) what are you doing. Please don’t do this.’

Allama Saaheb although elder in age to Hazrat Taajush Shariah,

he shows great love and respect for him. Once, my brother in-

law, Sayed Ahmed Faiz who is a truly ardent and devoted

Page 124: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

124

Mureed of Muhadith-e-Kabeer, (and Alhamdulillah so is my wife

and her family, even before my marriage) had gone with us to

the airport to welcome Huzoor Taajush Shariah and Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer. On arrival at the airport, he started to feel

stressed as to whom he should meet first. This, he mentioned to

me much afterwards. He says he started to worry about whom

he should meet first as he did not wish to disrespect either of

the Masha’ikh as he loves them both. However, he could not

decide whether to meet Muhadith-e-Kabeer first, who is his

Murshid, or Huzoor Taajush Shariah, who is the descendant and

successor of Aala Hazrat ◌. In this state of confusion, he

decided that he should first take the blessings of his Murshid,

and then thereafter with his Murshid’s blessing, he should take

the blessings of Huzoor Taajush Shariah.

He says that he stepped forward and walked towards Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer who was engrossed meeting many people

at once, but as he noticed Sayed Ahmed Faiz, he immediately

looked at him and said, ‘You should meet with the Senior

Blessed Personality first’ and pointed him towards Taajush

Shariah. My brother in-law was taken aback by this Karaamat of

Hazrat, as he was aware of the condition of his Mureeds heart,

and this, is the true sign of a Kaamil Murshid. This not only

showed the miraculous vision of Muhadith-e-Kabeer, but it also

displays his love for Huzoor Taajush Shariah and for the family

of Huzoor Aala Hazrat ◌.

His Respect Towards A Sayed

Once, Huzoor Taajush Shariah Allama Mufti Mohammed Akhtar

Raza Khan Qaadiri Azhari Qibla, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer

Hazrat Allama Zia Mustafa Qaadiri Amjadi Qibla and Mujahid-e-

Ahl-e-Sunnat Allama Sayed Shah Turab-ul-Haq Qaadiri Qibla

had visited Harare, Zimbabwe together as the guests of Brother

Mansur Raza and his family.

During this stay in Harare, we had all gone with the Masha’ikh

to partake in a meal at the home of Maulana Qaari Ahmed Raza

Saaheb (Brother Mansur Raza’s father). After the meals, Huzoor

Taajush Shariah, Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer and Huzoor Shah

Saaheb sat together in the room for a while having some ilmi

discussions. After their discussion ended, Hazrat Sayed Shah

Turab-ul-Haq Qibla requested permission to leave. He met

Huzoor Taajush Shariah and then met Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer and exited the room. As he exited, Huzoor Muhadith-e-

Kabeer calmly walked out with him. Hazrat Shah Saaheb Qibla

took notice of Allama Saaheb Qibla walking with him and

stopped after a taking a few paces. He requested Allama Qibla to

return to the room and take rest, but Allama Saaheb Qibla

insisted on walking him to the car, by saying that he was a

learned Aalim and more so he was a Sayed, so he would like the

honour of walking Huzoor Shah Saaheb to the car. Huzoor Shah

Saaheb tried to convince Allama Saaheb Qibla that it was fine

and he would be walked to the car by all the others, so Huzoor

Muhadith-e-Kabeer smiles and then asked why he should be

Page 126: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

126

deprived of the blessing of walking a Sayed and a guest to the

car. As they were still in the house discussing this, Huzoor

Taajush Shariah walked out of the room and said that he was

asking about Allama Saaheb and was told that he had gone to

walk Shah Saaheb Qibla to the car, so Huzoor Taajush Shariah

smiled and said, If Allama is walking Shah Saaheb to the car

then I too should do the same. Shah Saaheb now, was trying to

convince Huzoor Taajush Shariah that it was just a few paces to

the gate and the car, but he could not go without them, and

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer and Huzoor Taajush Shariah walked

Allama Sayed Shah Turab-ul-Haq to the gate and as he left,

Huzoor Taajush Shariah and Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer walked

together in the garden for a short while.

What a beautiful sight this was, to see how such great

personalities show so much love and respect to one another.

This incident points out so many different things. Firstly,

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s love and respect for the Sadaat-e-

Kiraam, secondly Huzoor Sayed Shah Turab-ul-Haq’s humility,

and thirdly, Huzoor Taajush Shariah’s love for Allama Saaheb

Qibla and him using Allama Saaheb Qibla as a means to get the

opportunity to walk Shah Saaheb Qibla to the car, which Shah

Saaheb would have never agreed to, if it had not been for

Huzoor Muhadith-e-Kabeer’s insistence.

The truth be told, this was one of those moments that one can

capture with his vision and heart and hold it there forever. (I

pray) that Almighty Allah grants all three of these great

Masha’ikh good health and long life. In doing so, I must

Page 127: The Sword Of Raza-Huzur Muhaddis-E-Kabeer by Muhammad Afthab Cassim Razvi Noori

127

especially pray for the good health of Huzoor Shah Saaheb

Qibla, who has not been in good health of late. May Allah bless

him with Shifa and long life. Aameen
