Joseph and Mary loved each other very much. So, they decided to get married.

One day, before they were married, an angel told Mary she was going to have a baby. She would give birth to the Son of God.

It was time for the national census. Everyone returned to their hometown to be counted.

So Joseph took Mary back to his hometown, Bethlehem.

There were so many people in Bethlehem that Joseph and Mary couldn’t find any place to stay.

Finally, an owner of a small inn let Joseph and Mary stay in the stable because there were no more rooms left.

That night, Mary gave birth to the baby Jesus in the stable.

In fields near the stable, shepherds were watching their sheep. They saw a bright star in the sky.

Angels told them that the star was a sign of the Christ Child’s birth. They followed the star to the stable to worship the baby Jesus.

Three wise men also came from far away to visit baby Jesus. They each brought a gift for Jesus: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Although most historians

are unsure of the exact date that baby Jesus was born, “ Christmas,” or the birthday of Christ , is celebrated by Christians on December 25.
