FRIDAY, SI'.rl'l'.M I'.KI! I. IHMI.
Tin; Bmtkti evidently had itseditorial leu pulled PJT some local
politician Thursday.
It is now jnite evident from AV
Leo that the planters of Hawaii aredirectly responsible for native im- -
providence.
And now comes the local politi-
cian who prefers that the islandsshould Stand another water famine
rather than trespass should be
made upon his premature politics.
The whole thing savors loudly of
the malihini.
DtfUNQ tliis afternoon it is re-
ported that Messrs C. Bolte, V N.4
Armstrong, John Kuuueluth. J. B.
Murray and P. A. Dias have been
decided upon as the new Labor
Commission. This statement is,
however, believed to be inaccurateas Messrs. C. Bolte and P. A. Dias
have verbally declined to serve on
account of the pressure of business.
THE awarding of the bids for
the pumping plant contract hascaused more or less of comment up
to date, and it is just probable thatnn ch of what has been said is
yvide of the mark. In awarding
the contracts mentioned the Gov
ernment will very probably follow
the letter of the aw and when the
award is made it will doubtless be
of such a nature as to quiet criti-
cism.
Thh attention of the STAR has
been called to the fact that theAdvertiser of this morning holds
that the American 1'iiion partyshould have a law passed to protectthe Minister of Interior in thematter of awarding bids. In thepresent case it may be sufficient to
call the attention of the interestedparties to the fact there is at pres-- a
law upon the statute books ofHawaii covering the point at issue.
Anything further touching thismatter would necessarily partake of
the nature of political expediency.

question that now agitates the public
mind to the exclusion of the tariff and
Hawaiian affairs is how to get the worth ol your
money. One dollar invested in three month's sub-
scription of the VVkkklv Star will be worth hun-dreds thrown away on other publications.

payments are all
very well, but the
Weekly Star is satisfied it you will pay once a
quarter, in advauce, of course. A common, ordinary
U. S. or Hawaiian dollar, sometimes called a cart-
wheel and sometimes the 'Almi;hty," will pay lor
three month's subscription to the Weekly Star,This word by itself looks lone-
some. So did the "Lone Star"
of Texas, but it got there all the same, and is now
a member ot the brightest constellation old Mother
Earth has ever known. The "Lone Star" of Hawaii
will get there, and don't you forget it. There are
two or three kinds of "Stars" but those we are
looking out for are the "Annexation Star" and the
Weekly Star. The former we are bound to have
in time, and the latter costs just One Dollar lor three
months. Take them both. You will have to, sooner
or later.
