The Spoken Tutorial Project The Spoken Tutorial Project is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, Scilab, LaTex, Libre office etc via an easy video tool. Spoken Tutorial is an audio-video method to learn software effectively. To impart quality education to the students and to provide them job-oriented quality education, this spoken tutorial project has been organized in various departments of Handique Girls’ College. Developed by IIT-Bombay, the ‘spoken tutorial’ website (spoken-tutorial.org) shows the step-by-step process to learn the lessons from the recorded audio files. On completion of this training program, students get e-certificates from IIT- Bombay. Till date more than 10 departments including Computer Science, Political Science, Statistics, Economics, Education, History, Psychology etc. have completed the Libre Office suits training Program. More than 200 students have already received the e-certificates from IIT- Bombay. Considering the utility of the project and its relevance to modern day education system, our students have found it to be very useful. So it was decided to renew the software service of FOSS in 2019 with a one-time payment of Rs. 25000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only). Therefore an intensive training programme“6 months’ certification course for Computer Basics & Office Automation” is conducted by the Department of Computer Science of Handique Girls’ College along with the regular courses of the Spoken Tutorial Project.

Education qualification:-

The eligibility condition for admission to this programme shall be 10+2 or equivalent, in any stream.

Infrastructure(s) availability details:-

The content/nature of practical work must be skill oriented and aim at the development of marketable skills. The infrastructure available present are listed below.

• Total number of labs- 2 • Total number of PCs- 52 • Total number of servers- 2 • Total number of digital classrooms- 1 • Total numbers of faculties- 5 (five) from the Department of Computer Science Department

of Handique Girls’ College.

Maximum intake capacity:

Considering the present infrastructure facility in the college an intake is about 20 to 30 students per batch to maintain quality and standard of teaching.

Evolution of internet, Basic internet terms (Client, Server, MODEM, Web page, Web site, Home page, Browser, URL, ISP, Web server, Download & Upload, Online & Offline), Internet applications (e.g.-mail, search, ftp, VOIP, Video Conferencing, Audio-Video streaming, Chatting).

Three Week Certificate Drama Workshop/Course

The three week certificate drama course consists of all the basic knowledge and skills required for a theatre. This was seen at the end of the course in the final production play “Shasti”. 18 participants were trying to apply the skills that were taught during the course period. The participants are as follow:

Benefits of the workshop: The workshop not only nurtured the drama skills, but motivated the participants in upgrading their day to day standards.
