RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED

A Message from Rev. Daniel Willson

It’s summertime! Well, almost. At least, it feelslike summer. The students are gone, the touristsare out and about, and the weather… well, maybe

the weather will catch up to the calendar! All in all, I’m lookingforward to this season and continuing our conversation abouthow to “get our house in order.”

I do hope that you will make plans to join us for our“Holy Huddle” Sunday School class, beginning this month in theSouth Wing. I’m excited about the hum of activity and themomentum we’ve generated in the spring, and I think that takingsome time to spell out the possibilities and potential for ourcongregation will help us going forward. I know that summer isa lean time for attendance (and offerings), but I do hope that youwill be faithful to invest yourself in your church when vacationplans do not keep you away.

One way that you can be of service this month is bygiving us feedback about our new church website. In comingweeks, we will see the new site launched and we would like tohear what you think. At one time, a person’s first impression ofa church was through contact with its members or passing by itschurch building. While this is sometimes still the case, a church’swebsite is now more likely to be a person’s first point of contactwith a faith community.

After a long wait, we are excited to unveil this new site, and we hope that it will effectively communicate who we are tonewcomers, even as it serves as a helpful communication toolfor our congregation and community.

Another way you can invest yourself this summer is bypraying for our bylaws revision process. Over the course of thesummer the trustees and leadership council will meet to discusspotential organizational models and begin putting together a draftto present to the congregation for discussion.

The goal will be to create a document that is moreconcise and workable, but also one that provides the kind oforganizational guidance that a congregation of our size andcharacter needs. We want to make sure that every member hasan opportunity to weigh in on the bylaws, so feedback is alwayswelcome. When the time comes to vote on this new document,we hope that the vote will be carried out with both sufficientawareness of its contents and confidence in its usefulness.

There are many more ways to invest yourself inWilliamsburg Baptist this summer. If you would like to do morefor your church, we would love to hear from you. This is a criticalyear for us, and to ensure this church’s witness for present andfuture generations we all have to come together and do our part– even in the summer. Because after the summer, there comesthe fall. And there is a harvest waiting, if we are diligent to sowtoday.

Galatians 6:9-10 - So let us not grow weary in doingwhat is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for thegood of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.
