David writes in Psalm 122, “I rejoice
with those who said to me, Let us go to
the house of the Lord.” It is great to be
back open for worship. This has been a
strange time. We are open again for
worship on Sunday. Things are a little
different though. We are trying to
incorporate recommendations from
several different denominations about
opening up and the CDC (Center for
Disease Control) in order to open up in a
safe way for our members. The Trustees
have met a number of times and for
many hours to discuss the various
recommendations. Why the Trustees? In
church’s with Trustees, the Trustees are
tasked with the day to day governance of
property and finance. Session is still the
governing board of the church, but in the
church has specifically elected
individuals to deal with property and
finances.
The Trustees took up the difficult task of
wading through all the information and
have put guidelines in place that, given
what we know, protect the congregation.
The process was not easy, mainly due to
the nature of the virus itself. COVID-19
is a virus that has not been previously
studied in humans, let alone from the
standpoint of a pandemic. Anyone who
has followed the news has heard
contradictory things about the virus.
This is actually typical for a new virus.
As a virus is first being studied, papers
from respected labs can often give what
appear to be contradictory facts or
conclusions. Over time as more is
discovered about the virus it becomes
easier to see the conflicting facts or
conclusions are actually both usually,
right in a greater and broader perspective.
For now, we have to make do with what
we know. This will also require patience
on the part of members. Some may like
the guidelines while others may not.
Please be patient with the guidelines and
fellow members as we work our way
back to worshiping in what we would
consider normal ways.

On July 4, 1776, the original 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States of America. Each year on July 4th,
Americans celebrate this historic event.
Conflict between the colonies and England was a year old when the colonies convened a Continental Congress in Philadelphia in the summer of 1776 in a session in a Pennsylvania State House known today as Independence Hall. Richard Henry Lee of Virginia presented a resolution with the now famous words: “Resolved that these United Colonies are, absolved from the allegiance to the British Crown, and that all
political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be totally dissolved.
Today, the original copy of the Declaration is housed in the National Archives in Washington D.C. and July 4 has been designated a national holiday to commu-tate the day the USA laid down its claim to be free an independent nation.
John Hancock was the President and he signed the Declaration with a great flourish.

Cabin News
The weather is finally beginning to be a little warmer and it is a
good time to enjoy the beautiful waters of the area. The
Churchs’ retreat cabin on Sugar Island is now open and provides
a beautiful spot for our church members to relax, meditate, and
commune with God. The large screened in porch is perfect for reading, board games,
and sunset dinners.
There is a usage fee of $35 for an overnight, or it can be used for the day only, at a
lesser usage fee (perfect for meetings). If interested, contact Denise at the church
office for details and directions.
Connor Gorsuch Kids Fishing Day
July 25, 2020
Kids sixteen and under can enjoy a free day of fishing at the kids fishing pond at Rotary Park.
Registration is 8 am-9 am. Children eight and under will fish from 9 am-10 am. Children nine to sixteen will fish from
10 am-11 am. From 11 am-12 pm, all registered children will be able to fish.
The community has donated food, refreshments, and prizes for the event. All registered kids can catch three fish and
register two. Wilderness Treasures is providing the bait. Some fishing equipment will be available, but you are encour-
aged to bring your own. There will be no use of Lures, only Hooks and Bobbers. For those in need of transportation,
please call 906-632-0110. Parking will be located at Aune-Osborn Park.
