THE SOLAR SYSTEM
The Solar System
The Solar System formed 4.600 billion years ago.
The Solar System’s star is the Sun.
The planets in the Solar System are, by order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The Sun
The Sun is a star, a big ball made of gas.
The Sun is very hot. It’s impossible to visit it.
All the planets in the Solar System go round the Sun.
The Sun
The Sun in our sky.
The Sun in the space.
Mercury
Mercury is very small.
It’s made of rock.
It’s near the Sun, so it’s hot.
It hasn’t any moons.
Venus
Venus is as big as the Earth.
It’s made of gas.
It’s hot, there are a lot of storms.
A day in Venus is like 243 days in the Earth.
The Earth
It’s our planet. It’s called the Blue Planet because 70% of the surface is water. There is air.
Animals and plants live here.
It goes round the sun in 365 days.
The Moon
The Moon size is ¼ the size of the Earth.
There isn’t air in the Moon, but there is ice. Animals and plants can’t live there.
It goes round the Earth in 28 days.
Mars
Mars is called the Red Planet.
It has 2 small moons.
It’s cold. There are a lot of mountains.
There is ice in Mars, but there isn’t liquid water.
Jupiter
Jupiter is made of gas.
It hasn’t a surface.
It’s very cold and there are a lot of clouds and storms.
It’s very big. It’s the biggest planet in the Solar System.
Saturn
Saturn is very big. It’s made of gas.
It’s very cold.
It has a lot of rings, made of ice and rock.
It has 52 moons.
Uranus
Uranus is very big and cold. It’s made of gas.
It’s very far.
It has a ring.
It has 27 moons.
Neptune
Neptune is very big. It’s similar to Uranus, its twin brother.
It’s very cold, and made of gas.
