Boots    SCRIPT    Narrator  #1:  Once  upon  a  time  there  was  an  evil  magician,  and  he  made  an  evil  mirror.    Magician:  I  am  SO  SMART.  This  mirror  is  amazing.    Narrator  #2:  If  a  good  person  looked  in  the  mirror,  they  would  think  bad  things.      Narrator  #1:  If  a  beautiful  person  looked  in  the  mirror,  they  would  appear  to  be  ugly.    Narrator  #2:  The  magician  laughed  because  of  how  smart  he  was.    Magician:  hahaha!  I  am  so  smart.    Narrator  #1:  Then,  one  day  the  mirror  broke  into  1  million  pieces,  and  the  pieces  of  the  mirror  went  all  over  the  world.      Narrator  #2:  If  a  piece  of  the  mirror  got  in  your  eye  than  you  would  see  the  world  as  bad.      Narrator  #1:  If  a  piece  of  the  mirror  got  in  your  heart,  than  your  heart  would  become  like  ice.      

 Narrator  #2:  Kay  and  Gerda  were  best  friends  and  they  were  neighbours.      Narrator  #1:  Kay  lived  with  his  grandmother  and  Gerda  lived  next  door.      Narrator  #2:  In  the  summer  they  would  play  together  in  the  rose  garden.      (show  Kay  and  Gerda  playing  together)    Narrator  #1:  In  the  winter,  they  would  play  inside  or  in  the  snow.      Gerda:  Is  there  such  a  thing  as  a  snow  queen?    Grandma:  Yes,  there  is,  she  is  a  frightful  woman.      Gerda:  Oh,  I’m  scared.

Kay:  Don’t  be.  If  The  Snow  Queen  comes  I  will  put  her  in  an  oven,  and  she  will  melt!    Narrator  #2:  But  then  that  night  Kay  saw  the  Snow  Queen  in  his  window  and  was  very  scared.      (show  Kay  seeing  the  Snow  Queen  and  looking  scared)    

 Narrator  #1:  The  winter  ended,  spring  came  and  then  summer.      Narrator  #2:  One  day  in  the  summer  Kay  and  Gerda  were  sitting  out  in  the  rose  garden.      Kay:  Ouch,  something  just  hurt  my  heart.  Ouch,  something  just  hurt  my  heart.    Gerda:  I  don’t  see  anything  in  your  eye.      Kay:  It  doesn’t  hurt  any  more.  Maybe  it’s  ok.    Narrator  #1:  But,  Kay  became  a  different  person.  He  started  to  say  mean  things  to  his  grandma  and  his  best  friend  Gerda.  Then  one  day  in  the  winter,  Kay  said  to  Gerda:    Kay:    Gerda  I  am  going  to  go  sledding  with  the  boys,  and  YOU  can’t  come!    Gerda:  Kay,  you  hurt  my  feelings!    Kay:  I  don’t  care.    Narrator  #2:  Kay  left  and  he  was  sledding  down  the  hill,  when  a  woman  on  a  white  sled  came.  She  told  the  boy  to  follow  her,  and  he  did.    (show  the  snow  queen  taking  the  Kay  away)    Narrator  #1:  They  went  on  a  ride,  then  came  to  a  snow  castle.      Kay:  I’m  so  VERY  cold.    Snow  Queen:  Take  this  blanket,  and  then  you  will  not  be  cold.  (she  touches  his  forehead)    Kay:  You’re  right,  I  am  not  cold  any  more.

Narrator  #2:  But  Gerda  was  getting  more  and  more  worried  about  her  friend  Kay,  who  had  gone  missing.      Gerda:  You  were  sledding  with  Kay?  Where  is  he?    Boy    #1:  I  saw  him  taken  by  a  beautiful  white  woman  on  a  sleigh.    Boy  #2:  Kay  has  to  be  dead!  Maybe  he  drowned  in  the  river.    (the  two  boys  leave)    Gerda:  (crying)  I  will  put  on  my  shoes  and  go  to  the  river.    Gerda:  River,  tell  me  if  you  killed  Kay,  and  I  will  give  you  my  shoes.  Why  won’t  you  say  anything?    Sun:  Kay  cannot  be  dead.    Bird:  Yes,  I  saw  him  leave  town  with  a  woman.    Sun:  Maybe  you  can  try  to  go  to  him  in  that  boat.      Bird:  What  a  good  idea!    (Gerda  gets  in  the  boat)    Gerda:  What  a  nice  boat  ride!    Bird:  Yes,  the  river  is  calm  here.  But  watch  out,  it  will  get  faster.    Gerda:  Oh  NO!  I  can’t  stop.    (an  old  woman  sees  what  is  happening)    Gerda:  Save  me!    Old  woman  #1:  Bring  me  this  girl!  (uses  her  magic)  

 Gerda:  Thank  you  so  much.  I  am  looking  for  my  best  friend  Kay.  Do  you  know  where  he  is?

Old  woman  #1:  I’m  afraid  I  don’t.  Why  don’t  you  come  in  for  a  while,  and  calm  down,  and  eat  some  fruit.    Gerda:  Ok.    Old  woman  #1:  You  have  such  pretty  hair  my  dear.  Let  my  brush  it  for  you.  (woman  uses  her  magic  again)  You  should  just  stay  here  with  me.    Gerda:  Yes,  that  sounds  good.  I’ll  stay.    Old  woman  #1:  We’ll  be  the  best  of  friends!    Narrator:  Gerda  stayed  a  long  time,  but  then  one  day  she  saw  the  old  woman  wearing  a  rose  and  said.      Gerda:  I  remember  now!  I’m  looking  for  Kay.  We  used  to  play  in  the  rose  garden.    Old  woman  #1:  I  knew  this  day  would  come.  Come,  I  will  give  you  some  food  and  then  you  can  go.      (Old  Woman  gives  Gerda  some  food)      Narrator  #1:  And  so  Gerda  was  on  her  way  again.  Before  long  she  met  a  bird.    Gerda:  Good  morning  crow.    Crow:  Caw,  caw,  good  morning,  good  morning.      Gerda:  Have  you  seen  my  friend  Kay?    Crow:  Well,  what  does  he  look  like?    Gerda:  He’s  a  little  boy.  He  has  black  hair  and  brown  eyes.        (change  depending  on  what  your  Kay  looks  like)    Crow:  Was  he  wearing  boots?    Gerda:  Yes,  he  was.

Crow:  He  may  be  in  the  princess’s  castle.    Gerda:  He’s  living  in  a  princess’s  castle?      Crow:  Yes,  she  is  beautiful.  Many  people  want  to  live  with  her.    Follow  me,  I  will  take  you  to  the  castle.      Gerda:  Wow!    (she  sneaks  in)    Gerda:  I  think  I  see  Kay.    (Gerda  walks  into  the  room  and  sees  Kay  sleeping)      Gerda:  No,  that’s  not  Kay.    (the  princess  wakes  up)    Princess:  Who  are  you  and  what  are  you  doing  in  my  castle?    Gerda:  I  am  looking  for  my  friend  Kay.  Have  you  see  him?    Princess:  What  does  he  look  like?    Gerda:  He  has  brown  eyes  and  black  hair  and  was  wearing  boots  when  he  got  lost.    Princess:  I’m  afraid  I  don’t  know  him.    Gerda:  Can  you  help  me?    Princess:  I  can  give  you  some  new  clothes  and  a  carriage.        Narrator  #2:  And  so  the  princess  gave  Gerda  some  clothes  and  sent  her  on  her  way.    Narrator  #1:  Everything  was  going  well,  until  a  robber  boy  saw  the  beautiful  carriage.    Robber  Boy:  STOP  HORSE!

Gerda:  OH  NO!    Robber  Boy:  Oh  what  a  beautiful  girl,  and  a  beautiful  scarf.  I  will  take  your  scarf.  Come  with  me!    Gerda:  No.    Robber  Boy:  You  can’t  escape!  Come  with  me!      Narrator  #2:  Later,  when  they  were  at  the  robber  boy’s  house,  Gerda  saw  a  pigeon.  And  she  asked    Gerda:  Mr.  Pigeon,  have  you  seen  my  friend  Kay.  He  has  black  hair  and  brown  eyes  and  was  wearing  boots  when  I  saw  him  last.    Pigeon:  Yes,  I  saw  him,  he  was  going  up  north  with  The  Snow  Queen.  She  went  to  her  ice  palace.      Gerda:  What  do  I  do?    Pigeon:  Ask  the  reindeer,  he  knows  what  happens  up  north.      Narrator  #1:  So  Gerda  went  to  the  reindeer  and  asked  him.    Gerda:  Reindeer,  do  you  know  how  to  get  up  north?    Reindeer:  Yes,  I  was  born  up  north.    Gerda:  Could  you  take  me  there?    Reindeer:  Only  if  my  master  lets  us  go!    Narrator  #2:  Then  the  robber  boy  came  back.    Gerda:  Oh  please,  my  friend  is  lost  and  I  need  to  find  him  again.  Will  you  let  me  go?    Robber  Boy:  Give  me  your  lovely  mittens  and  your  scarf  and  your  hat,  and  then  I  will  let  you  go.    Gerda:  Ok.  Can  I  take  the  reindeer?    Robber  Boy:  If  you  wish.

Narrator  #1:  So  Gerda  and  the  Reindeer  went  together,  up  north.    

 Narrator  #2:  They  stopped  when  they  saw  a  house  in  the  snow.    Narrator  #1:  The  reindeer  knew  that  it  was  the  house  of  a  magic  man.      Gerda:  Maybe  we  should  stop  here  and  ask  for  some  help.    Reindeer:  Sounds  like  a  good  idea.      Narrator  #2:  So  they  knocked  on  the  door.      Old  man  #2:  Who  goes  there?    Gerda:  My  name  is  Gerda,  and  I  am  looking  for  my  friend  Kay.      Reindeer:  He  is  in  the  ice  palace.  Can  you  help  us  fight  the  snow  queen?    Old  man  #2:  I  will  feed  you,  and  then  I  will  tell  you  what  I  know.      Narrator  #2:  So  Gerda  sat  down  to  eat  some  fish  with  the  old  man.    Old  man  #2:  The  snow  palace  is  20  km  north  of  here.      Reindeer:  Please,  can  you  give  Gerda  a  potion  to  make  strong  like  20  men?    Old  man  #2:  Gerda  does  not  need  a  potion.  She  is  already  strong.  I  know  because  the  birds,  the  animals  and  the  sun  have  all  helped  her.  She  can  win  against  the  Snow  Queen’s  power  herself.      Narrator  #1:  So  Gerda  and  the  Reindeer  left  and  continued  their  journey.    Narrator  #2:  Once  they  got  to  the  snow  palace,  the  reindeer  left  Gerda.    Narrator  #1:  She  didn’t  know  it,  but  the  Snow  Queen  was  actually  on  vacation,  putting  snow  on  the  tops  of  mountains  in  warm  countries.    Narrator  #1:  Gerda  snuck  into  the  palace.    (show  Gerda  sneaking  in)

 Narrator  #2:  Once  Gerda  was  in  the  palace,  she  found  her  friend  Kei  in  the  middle  of  a  frozen  lake.    Narrator  #1:  She  ran  to  him.    Gerda:  Kay,  I’m  so  happy  I  found  you.    Kay:  Who  are  you?    Gerda:  Stop,  we  need  to  go  home.    Kay:  Where  is  home?    Narrator  #2:  And  Gerda  cried.    Gerda:  Kay!    Narrator  #2:  When  Gerda’s  tears  hit  Kay’s  heart,  he  was  cured.    Kay:  Huh?  Where  am  I?    Gerda:  Kay,  do  you  remember  who  you  are?    Kay:  Of  course  I  do.  You  are  my  best  friend?  How  did  I  get  here?    Gerda:  I’ll  tell  you  the  story  on  the  way  home.    Narrator  #1:  So  Gerda,  Kay  and  the  Reindeer  all  went  back  home  together.    Narrator  #2:  And  they  all  lived  happily  ever  after.
