THE SLYDER CUP
THE SLYDER CUP PRESENTED BY REEF: OVERVIEW
// 13th April 2013, The first Annual Slyder Cup presented by Reef hit the UK.
// The Slyder Cup was the first event of its kind in the UK, a coming together of the alt-surf scene in a one-day surf competition celebrating the art of waveriding from a ‘finless’ perspective.
// Part surf comp, part social gathering, the festivities continued into the evening with music and the special UK premiere screening of ‘Anything Sing’, the new film from What Youth x Reef, hosted and promoted by Approaching Lines.
// Championing the underground and celebrating the creativity that exists in waveriding culture, The Slyder Cup takes surfing back to its roots, bringing together the finless tribe of waveriders: body surfers, paipo riders, mat surfers, bellyboarders and alaia riders in a surf competition with an emphasis on good vibes, good rides and good times.
// Leading shapers from across the UK were invited to showcase their alternative surf craft at the event and the first ‘Shaper’s Shield’ awarded.
// Hosted at the natural amphitheatre of Lusty Glaze, Cornwall, it was an event for all comers from across the UK. Lusty Glaze is renowned as both a popular beach and a venue, boasting a bar, restaurant and huge decked veranda utilised for the event.
